I chose this hotel for my stay based on feedback from internet and it was also recommended by a friend staying there.
Checking is quick, I payed with MastarCard without any problem (they do not access American Express).
Rooms are mid-size with nice bed. The desk i a little too small for me - there's not enough space to have a laptop and a bunch of papers laying around. Air conditioning is working fine.
Food quality is good-average - there is a buffet dinner every day - there is wide variety of salads, seafood and meet dishes. Everything taste well - and the meet can be grilled upon ordering. All of this is 45USD+drinks.
Other option a menu selection. I ordered a club sandwich - it was the worst I ever had!

Internet access works very well - its fast and reliable.

Hotel location is good - 5 minute drive from city center.

Definitely the best place to stay once visiting Lubumbashi!

Room Tip: There are rooms with lake view. I had a view to the parking - room was located above the hotel entra...

I had the opportunity to stay in Grand Karavia for 2 nights.

The service was excellent, the staff were friendly and the breakfast was great with lots of options.

They can improve on the dinner but still not bad other than the price.

The rooms are beautiful and well done.... and i loved the paintings in the rooms.

the building is well done... and the lake view is amazing. Good place to relax

Not sure if this is my 6th or 7th longer stay at the Grand Karavia but I’m still coming back.
The staff her is excellent and the food still taste great.
There are also things that don’t improve.
There is no minibar or possibilities to cool down drinks in the ordinary rooms. (Think the finer rooms has that possibility.)
The internet connection is terrible and slow.

Otherwise I will for sure recommend this hotel to colleges and friends if ever going to Lubumbashi.

A friend and myself booked into the Karavia Hotel for 4 nights during the 2012 Lubumbashi Golf Open. The rooms were advertised at $100 PPPN. A special for Golfers
On our departure we were informed that we had been upgraded to a 'Lake' facing room and that the room rate had now increased. $120
There was no Manager available to address our concerns so we were forced to pay up.

A very bad showing for an International Hotel chain.

We stayed here for the week with the family. The hotel is nice and clean and the staff are excellent. The breakfast is great with a ton of options reflecting American, European and Asian cuisine. On the down side, lunch and dinner was above and beyond expensive for the quality and portions sizes. We stayed in a suit and they still wanted to charge us $20 a day for internet that worked less than half the time, yet they still wanted a full day of pay. Every time the children and I went to the pool, there were no towels to use to dry off or put on the hot plastic chairs and each time someone from the hotel came and asked for money. If we are paying $300+ USD a night for a suite, internet & pool should be included

Rooms are funtional, but nothing special. Decor is very average. Staff helpfull and very friendly, but especially in the restaurant they need a LOT of training. Food is good, with a variety of Continental and local dishes. In Lubumbashi, which uses the eccuse of 'you are in a 3rd World African City/Country when it suits the purpose, the hotel is not overpriced for what you get. However, if this hotel was anywhere else in the World, it would battle to reach even 4*. Please, please, I ask you: how difficult can it be to pay attention to the little details that make a clients visit worth while??

Room Tip: All rooms face the pool and Lake - for what that is worth! It is quiet hotel due to it being more of...

The Grand Karavia is a little slice of peace and luxury in the bustling chaos of Lubumbashi. The quality of the rooms is excellent with really comfortable beds – I had a great night’s sleep and a great view over the pool and lake. The grounds are pleasant and good to stroll around, however there is a bit of rubbish around the fringes of the property and along the lake front. There is even a couple of clay tennis courts for guest use. Wifi internet is available in the rooms but costs a bit extra – not too much though. The AC worked well and the shower was nice and hot.

On the negative side, checking in and out is a major hassle. The reception counter is understaffed and under resourced, meaning it takes forever just to check in and out, especially if there are a number of people in front of you. On top of that, their credit card machine is seldom working so guests are forced to withdraw cash from an ATM around the corner to pay for their rooms. They kept trying to tell me my card had expired when it very obviously had an expiry date of 2015 written on it.

The restaurant is nicely furnished and decorated, however the food at the buffet was all quite bland and disappointing for both breakfast and dinner. There is no gym available on site which I thought was really disappointing for a hotel of this class.

All in all, I had a really nice stay at the Karavia and I will definitely stay here again. For about $200/night I thought it was reasonably good value and would recommend it to other travelers.
