Auberge de la Source - Hotel de Charme
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed April 1, 2014

Following a stay here last October we were delighted to be back - especially when we were greeted with Champagne on arrival!

We had a smaller room this time (15?) on the ground floor which was nicely presented and equipped with a good bathing area and wet-area. It was a little cramped around the bed on one side but adequate. However, with only one window and insufficient lighting it was a bit dark - a torch was needed to see into the wardrobe to select clothes. I will opt for the larger room on our next visit later in the year.
The style is rustic-chic and it works beautifully - the bed-linens are high quality and the beds very comfortable.
The restaurant is comfortable and an excellent buffet breakfast is offered - don't miss out on the superb range of artisanal breads!
Dinner with a log-fre crackling away was excellent - warm (not cooked!) oysters are a revelation - my wife had the 3 nights running! The quartered roast pigeon stuffed with foie-gras and with liver & heart separately presented was cooked to perfection and was tender as veal! Dover sole meuniere…perfect so my said. The menu is small, perhaps just 3 or4 choices of entree and main course but all the dishes are beautifully, often surprisingly presented, without being fussy or over-decorated, and nicely balanced and correctly cooked. The chef, Yanneck, is accomplished and charming as are all the staff without exception. Service is quiet, efficient, thoughtful and friendly and we are looking forward already to our next visit.
Situated in the woods just 3 miles above Honfleur which is a great (if a bit touristy) place to spend a day - Boudin Museum, Erich Satie House, Old Honfleur Museum and dozens of restaurants including the wonderful SaQaNa in the town centre. Deauville is only 20 mins away with its wonderful shops and Trouville just over the bridge with its great fish market & fish restaurants along the quay - a wonderful sandy beach stretches for miles in front of both Deauville & Trouville. This sounds too much like a brochure now so will finish with thanks once more to al at The Auberge for a memorable stay once again!

Room Tip: Go for the larger rooms - all are quiet and mostly look over the garden which is beautiful in itself...

We are used to stay in the region but never tried this hotel. Unfortunately we did not find it before ! The hotel quiet, charmy and rooms are most comfortable with such a stylish local style.
The staff is most helpful and warm. It was difficult to get a table on this Valentine day but Veronique did her best and we finally could enjoy the restaurant which proposes a very nice daily menu.
We will be back as soon as we pass by.

Room Tip: Get the room number 5 which great corner view

The hotel is located in the former farm off the beaten tracks and is surrounded with forests and some houses. To judge from the smells one of them is an active farm, which adds up to the unique ambience. Our information about the hotel was limited to the official web-page and we decided to stay for only one night. Upon arrival we immediately discovered that the hotel is a real hidden gem and is certainly worth a longer stay. The family room #1 consisted of two separate bedrooms with very comfortable double beds. The room was smallish, yet with definite rustic charm. We wanted to dine in the hotel, however the restaurant was fully booked. Later on we were extremely lucky that some booking was cancelled. The set menu was delicious and cost only 38 Euro per person. In general, the service was very attentive and friendly. The inner garden is absolutely amazing and totally relaxing. We paid 245 Euro for one night (breakfast excluded).

Auberge de la Source is one of the more romantic boutique hotels we've encountered. We seemed out of place as a family of four (even though our kids are grown). It is extremely charming and well manicured. Honfleur is but a ten minute drive from the hotel.

Room Tip: Not all rooms have a shower... or even a western bathroom. Ours had a potty room and then a sink and...

Recently back from this enchanting small hotel tucked away in the countryside just minutes from Honfleur/Deauville.

As soon as you enter he pretty and beautifully laid out garden you know things will be all right!

The charming hosts greeted us with enthusiasm and we were shown to our delightful and cosy room in the longere. Nicely furnished in a country style but with good quality linen and lots of nice touches...nice bathroom with wet-room style shower.

However, the best was yet to come...the restaurant never failed to delight and surprise us during the 3 days we stayed. The talented chef, Yannek, combined classic cuisine with some innovative flavour and texture combinations making it very difficult each evening to choose from the menu.
Shellfish, local meat and game, fish were all represented and served and presented beautifully. The wine-list is exceptional for a small hotel with some excellent years from many top producers. Full marks again for that!

The hospitality and courteous and attentive staff only add to a superb package. We'll be back...soon!

We were really amazed at this place as we arrived because it was so tucked away in the woods and was so different to your typical French hotel. First impressions were of the very manicured gardens that led us from the car park into the reception. We were given a very warm welcome and shown to our room in the loft. The room was a mixture of very modern and very traditional and a great example of how to make the very most of the available space. Athough not a particularly big room it certainly didn't feel small and we had all the storage space we needed. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and tidy.

We decided to decline breakfast, but did have dinner at the hotel which was excellent. However we did think the wine prices were just a bit on the high side.

All the staff were very friendly to us and we really enjoyed every minute of our stay here. While it's certainly not a cheap place to stay we felt we had good value for money and enjoyed every minute we spent there. It was just a shame the weather wasn't good enough to allow us to spend more time sitting outside and enjoying the gardens. We will definitely stay here agin and will recommend it to all our friends.

Good points first
The garden is quite beautiful and the auberge is a little different to the norm. We stayed in a room up two flights of stairs but once inside the actual room we were most impressed by the design of the room which maximised the space and light. A good walk-in shower of modern design.
The bed itself was extremely comfortable,
Breakfast was self service and had a good selection of breads, pastries, conserves etc.
The negatives -
The accommodation seemed a little expensive compared with others we had stayed in but not excesively so.
Our main disappointment was the standard of food and service at dinner - although we must admit not over- expensive,
