spent our 1st family ski holiday at the Grand Claviere and what an amazing choice!
The resort is pretty, easy to navigate and all amenities are close to the hotel. The range of ski runs and the vast area that can be accessed via the ski lift network make it suitable for all ski levels.
The hotel is warm comfortable and all staff are extremely accommodating. The food is plentiful and of excellent quality and standard.

Just finished a great weeks snowboarding staying over new year at the Grande Claviere and can highly recommend this hotel.

Food:
The all inclusive option saves you a fortune and the free drinks from 4.30-10.30pm are extremely free flowing and almost everything is included (draft beer, G&T, whisky etc). We had a full cooked breakfast everyday as well as meats, cheeses and other continental items on offer. Tea and cake was available in the afternoon and an excellent 3 course dinner every night with a variety of choices. The red wine is also surprisingly drinkable, but reports from fellow guests on the white weren't so favourable. Getting a free packed lunch everyday is not something we would normally do but having the option again saved money, but much more sandwich filling is required!

On the chefs night off we'd totally recommend the skidoo trip up to the mountain restaurant. It was amazing value, great food and a memorable experience. Do it.

Service:
All the staff are the friendliest, most professional you could hope to come across. Their enthusiasm and the relaxed, friendly atmosphere in the hotel that they help create really makes a difference. To name but a few - Jessica, Dante and Harry doing brilliant work keeping the drinks coming, the lovely Jessica, Stefan, Tom, Oliver, Erin, Lucy and Gemma serving our delicious meals and then the managers and hosts who keep it all running so well, thank you James, Laura, Crewe etc. We met the head chef who is doing a fantastic job, and our thanks go out to his team working behind the scenes.

Hotel:
The set up of the bar area allows lots of friendly interaction between guests and although it is mostly families with kids (we did not have children with us) it did not feel like the children dominated. There was lots to amuse them with Kids Club, the garden outside the bar and games room. They could come and go in a very relaxed way and ate separately each night (if required).

The hotel has the best boot room we've seen with boot warmers for every guest. Only gripe is that there is no wi-fi which you'd expect as standard in a 3 star hotel.

Rooms:
Our bedroom was a good size with comfortable beds (request a second pillow though). We had a balcony with a superb view towards Montgenevre and saw some amazing sunsets. The only problem was the temperature which is centrally regulated. It was so hot at night we had to sleep with the balcony doors open, but then you risk getting a freezing draft. Not good.

Location:
It's practically ski-to-the door. Just use the '99' red run, a short, easy off-piste shortcut and then cross the bridge to the golf club next door, and you're in the back garden. If you end up in the area around ski school then it's a pleasant 5 min walk.

It's also next to a piste that runs to ski school and the 2 local chairlifts. If you're on a board we'd recommend joining the piste at the ice rink which is a 1 minute walk from the boot-room. Skiers can join higher up and pole the flat section before the ice rink.

The hotel is 5 mins to all things in the small pretty resort which has a handful of bars, restaurants and shops.

We had a great stay at the Grande Claviere and would definitely return, and well done to Crystal on putting together such a good team.

Thanks for a great week,
Duncan & Anna

Room Tip: 205 had a balcony with a great view.

I have just arrived back from a week at the Grand Clav with my little boy (18 months) and my partner who is 11 weeks pregnant and had never been skiing before...

We have had a superb time. The resort is small but with some great pistes and it is only a short walk to one of the pistes which will take you down to the chair lifts. There is a good variety of slopes although not the best place in the world if you are an absolute beginner though my partner did have a great time in ski school.

The staff at the hotel were absolutely superb. The pepi-penguin club was great for our little boy and the food was of a really high quality with a good deal of variety. The packed lunches were pretty much the same every day but to be honest, were much needed and enjoyed after a good morning's skiing. The evening meals were really impressive and the children's food of equal quality which I was impressed with. Overall, the atmosphere with the other guests, the service from the staff and the location meant a great skiing holiday. I have stayed in other resorts and would certainly consider coming back to this hotel and resort.

Have just returned from a fantastic week at the Club Hotel Grande Claviere. Yes the staff are young, yes the rooms are basic but we were highly impressed by the value for money that Crystal offer in this all inclusive Club Hotel. Levels of customer care exceeded expectations as did the quality of food. The packed lunches were a benefit given the cost of eating up the mountain however where hard work by day five ! We have travelled extensively as keen skiers and would rarely return to the same accommodation twice. We would have no reservations given the opportunity to return due to the good access to the slopes partnered with great accommodation. Claviere is not the most scenic of resorts but allows good access to some great skiing. Special thanks to the Crystal team for a fab holiday.

Room Tip: The adjoining rooms on the fourth floor where great for a family of 4, although very hot.

Great family hotel but not suitable for couples. There are no adult only areas to sit and enjoy a quiet drink and a good nights sleep is a no no, with babies screaming all night. I'm sure the families all had a great time but couples/adult groups definitely avoid. The food in the evening was good, but the cooked breakfast was poor and the packup lunch was terrible. The best bits were the location and view and all the staff were friendly and made an effort.

stayed at the grande claviere for the third time in 6 years, and this(25/03/12) was the best yet!The staff were helpful and courteous, the food was fantastic and the all inclusive deal with packed lunch and free drinks from 4.30 til 10.00pm was icing on the cake (also available in the afternoon) The room was comfortable and clean and the nights were very quiet if a little too warm.By chance we had wall to wall sunshine which made the return to the hotel even better in the afternoon with a beer on the patio area at the rear .The skiing was great .We paid 118 euros for the local lift pass and 21 euros for the day to upgrade for Montgenevre(in addition to the 1 day montgenevre & 1 day milky way on local pass) We met some lovely people, some with children who were all well behaved and all in all had one of our best ski holidays yet.Well done Crystal and Crystal staff-See you next year!Huge Ski/Boot room!

Room Tip: There is a lift to all floors, so higher is quieter.

I have been looking for the perfect family ski resort for 4 years, and despite la Claviere being a fantastic little resort it's not it! I have a 8 year old son and 6 year old daughter, we don't see a good family resort as one with a good child minding service but instead somewhere our children can experience great ski school and where we as a family can ski together encouraging a growing enthusiasm and confidence in our children. Despite La Claviere having a great ski school, Edo was fantastic, the position of the hotel was not ideal, either a hard walk uphill back carrying mine and childrens skis or a racy red almost back to hotel which after first day was the preferred option despite it being a little tricky for my 6 year old. Staff were young but very helpful, hotel has child care facilities for babies and unfortunately we were in room 101 right next door to an incredibly noisy family who we felt we shared a room with as we could hear them so clearly crying and shouting and talking! It also made us worry about how loud we were, not the most relaxing situation! It was so bad our lovely Reps got us earplugs so we could get a decent nights sleep. We suggest if going here you pack your own although our friends were on a different floor and did not have anywhere near the same issue as us. Skiing was great at all levels, mountain restaurants reasonably priced and conditions fine just a little slushy in the afternoon. On Chefs night off we went to local restaurant The Kilt a fantastic pizzeria with the most delightful owner who can't do enough for you well worth a visit, we e-mailed ahead to ensure a table as it gets full quickly on this particular night! Would we go back? The hotel despite their excellent service wasn't for us if you have young children and need a crèche it's definitely the place for you. We are still looking for our perfect resort but do take fond memories of Claviere with us!
