Riva Azzurra provided an ideal base to either relax and do very little, or explore Sardinia and the neighbouring islands, or a bit of both!

The apartment we had (209) was clean, spacious, amazing views across the sea, great balcony, air conditioning that worked in the bedroom and living area, and it was quiet.

The swimming pool area was clean and comfortable, never overcrowded, private but you could walk over to the wall and watch the world go by if you wanted.

Reception staff were great - didn't need them much as everything was good!

The area itself was quiet but also bustling - just perfect. Plenty of top class places to eat within a few minutes walk, and plenty of supermarkets round the back of the apartments or into Cannigione, as well as deli's, pharmacy, beach shops etc. Not much night life if that's your thing, but bars etc stay open late.

As a base we explored by car many of the resorts and towns nearby and further afield including Alghero (4 hour round trip), Palau, Santa Teresa, Porto Cervo, Baja Sardinia, and the driving was no hassle at all. Much less traffic than we're used to and while the roads are windy and mountainous in places, they are well maintained and easy to navigate. Exploring was great, but it made me realise we had the best of all worlds at Cannigione with it being quiet, a 'local' feel, but not sleepy.

It was also a good base to get to Corsica. We stayed overnight on a last minute whim in Bonifacio, getting the ferry as foot passengers from Santa Teresa - very easy to arrange and worth doing to see a lovely place in a different country easily.

I would recommend Residence Riva Azzurra as a good base for people wanting a quiet holiday, but with plenty of options nearby!

Fab location, Has a good beach 2 mins walk away and another good beach about a mile away (we like walking!), Close to centre of Cannigione with very handy supermarket, good selection of restaurants, one of the largest and cleanest rooms we have stayed in for a while. Friendly and helpful staff. One not so good point it is a bit noisy with thin walls ceilings so you can hear your neighbours (depends on your neighbours to a degree)

Room Tip: Get a top floor if possible

Positive: close to the beach, 2 min walk to the centre of Cannigione, supermarket and restaurants nearby, very spacious room/studios, swimming pool, equipped kitchen, great for families (playground down the residences). Friendly and helpful staff.
Negative: a bit noisy and thin walls (unless you are on a top floor studio you can hear your neighbours walking, talking etc.), slow wifi

We stayed for 2 weeks in a one bedroomed apartment on the upper floor which gave us great views. Everything was clean and although not overly stocked with equipment, it had all we needed for basic self catering when we needed it. There was a kettle which I think is a new addition. There is a TV but no English programmes. We didn't attempt to use Wifi. We rented a car which we didn't really need as was content to stay local. It was very straightforward to find our way from the airport. Apparently the hotel offers airport transfer (if it is available) for 50 Euros each way and a taxi would cost 70 Euros each way. This does seem a lot as it takes about 35 - 40 minutes to get there. There is also a bus but didn't find out about where the stops were or the cost but obviously much more cost effective. There are little coves nearby (just walk north up the one way street along the coast) and you can usually find somewhere to spend a few hours or the day in a secluded area within a 10 minute stroll. You can hire bikes locally and there are several boat trips although we didn't do one. There are all sorts of water sports available including snorkelling and SCUBA diving. The local beach is literally just across the road with sunbeds and umbrellas and a lifeguard in attendance. Although we don't have young children now, there is an excellent well used playground in the grassy area within a minutes walk. the whole area out the front looks like it has had a makeover as Google map pictures look very different. The accommodation has three pools - a separate children's pool one side of the sunbathing area and a small pool and jacuzzi in the main sunbathing area. These are not heated and a little cold for me but the sea was a very pleasant temperature to swim in. Sunbeds were plentiful, including some double bedded 4-poster type ones with curtained sides for shade which was perfect for those with babies who napped on them. It was never busy there as most people went out for the day. We visited Capo D'oro on the northern tip to visit the fascinating rock formations. The car park was 3 Euros and entry was 3 Euros each for a self guided walk to the top. Restaurants are plentiful with the nearest being a Pizzaria on site (also offers other food apart from pizza) and a Cafe on site, both of which we found to offer a good choice of food and snacks. There are 2 supermarkets within a 5 - 10 minute walking distance and another in the main street area, all of which had everything you could want and one has a fishmongers and all have a meat and cheese counter.

The only sour note was the fact we were told our bedlinen would be changed after one week as well as the apartment would be cleaned. This was not done (I know from the fact there was a small blood stain on the sheet from scratching a mosquito bite which remained there for 2 weeks). Towels were changed three times which was excellent. When I mentioned on leaving about the lack of bedlinen change and cleaning (only to highlight, not to make a fuss), the lady rang the cleaners who insisted it had been done. Our word against theirs and of course we were not believed. This was upsetting especially and there was no attempt at making us feel happy with the outcome.

I am sure that over time we will not allow this to colour our overall view of this lovely place and hope to come again. It is a little gem.

Room Tip: Upper floor for best views.

We just came back from Cannignone.
We were staying in Riva Azzurra and it was great.
The apartments are well equipped with plates, cutlery, pans etched and amazing views!!
There is 3 swimming pools (2 kids and one adult) plenty of chairs.
The beach is literally opposite the residence.
There is a caffeine, restaurant downstairs.
Plenty of restaurants, cafes, supermarkets within 5-10 min walk.
Cannignone is a small town so if you looking for a nice and quiet holidays it's perfect!
There is lots of amazing beaches around so having a car is ideal as you can go and explore!
