“A wonderfully well-appointed, clean and spacious set of apartments”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 18, 2009

Our two-week holiday staying in the Residence Riva Azzurra was excellent. We had a one-bedroom top floor apartment with balcony overlooking the sea. We are a family of two adults with one 8-year old and the apartment was more than big enough for us. Everything was spotlessly clean and the furnishings and decoration were fresh and bright. The apartment kitchen area was well-equipped with a four-ring hob, microwave and fridge. All cutlery, crockery, pots and pans were sufficient for our needs and there were even nice additional touches such as tablecloths and padded cushions for the balcony chairs. The two swimming pools were clean and adequately sized.
All public areas were cleaned every morning and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Cannigione is a quiet town with all amenities needed for a self-catering holiday. There is a relatively new air-conditioned supermarket a five minute walk from the apartments and the town itself is only a 10 minute walk away. Cannigione has numerous restaurants, shops and also a bank and post office. We particularly liked L'Ostricca Restaurant and Bar Linus.
I would thoroughly recommend the apartments - we are already planning our next visit!

Booked our accomodation on the internet and as always you are unsure on what you are going to get. Got other quotes from hotels in Cannigione but as there was 2 adults and 3 children they seemed expensive. Residence Riva Azzurra were more than happy to accomodate us and after a few emails all was booked. Great communication. I work away alot and stay in alot of hotels all over the world. I often complain on arrival as nothing normally measures up to my expectations, what we got was lovely, just what we wanted. The accomodation is simple but what do you needed on holiday? However the view from our room was fantastic
The pool area was more than sufficent for my children and also a play area and table tennis.
The Service we got from the hotel was fantastic, unfortunately on the early hours of Sunday morning our hot water tank sprung a leak and i said to my wife that a new one was needed, but being sunday we had no chance. How wrong I was all sorted with a brand new one fitted!!!
Great pizza restaurant below which also does takeaway as it was so nice to sit on our balcony and look at the views.
Cannigione itself is lovely no maddening crowds just a lovely atmosphere, very few brits and no football shirts!!! Apart from my boys on the odd occasion

Overall a fantastic place to stay, great people, lovely atmosphere, fantastic views from nearly all the apartments and look forward to retuning again.

We - a couple from Denmark - stayed for a week at the Riva Azzurra in July 2009 and would like to give the place our best recommodation. Sally - the receptionist - was just the nicest person and the rest of the staff was efficient and very, very nice, too. The place was beautiful and so well kept. Flowers everywhere, the pool area was nice and very clean. It happens that we stayed in the same apartment that another traveller complained about - and we experienced nothing of what she said.
The apartment was so pleasant and nice. Even the china was pretty. We will recommend the residence to everybody. And the restaurant below the residence makes the best pizza we had on Sardinia.

We first saw Riva Azzurra in the Holiday Options brochure but found it much more cost effective to book directly. From the first telephone call I made to the Riva Azzurra team I found them very efficient and they were always quick to reply to my emails. They organised a charming taxi driver to pick us up at Olbia airport and we knew we off to a good start (not cheap, but hey its Sardinia!). On arrival at the complex we found that everything was very much as shown in the brochures/website and described on Trip Advisor - a gorgeous view and a very nice, clean spacious apartment. Within minutes my five year old son and two year old daughter were having fun in the pool trying out the great slide. With plenty of sun loungers - without towels on them - and lots of space around the pool area there was space for everyone, be they a lively young family like us or older couples looking for a bit of piece and quiet. The Cannigone town beach is literally on the door step of the Riva Azzurra and is fine, but there are so many amazing beaches within a half an hour drive that we set off each morning to find a new destination and then would return to the swimming pool later in the day. The handy snack bar on site is brilliant for a tasty afternoon gelato or beer (not that pricey) and the restaurant, again right beneath the apartments, is great for a large pizza - quite reasonable at 5 euros. All in all we thought Riva Azzurra was excellent value for money and in a brilliant location. I took two brochures to give to my friends as I think they'd love it too!

We had previously stayed at these apartments in 2001, which was just as described hence we re-booked. However on arrival the apartment was clean but there were signs of damp visible on the wall and a strong smell. This was brought to the attention of staff who didn't see it as a problem and although promised they would add air fresheners and crystals neither of these appeared. There is also little sound proofing so having a family with children running throughout the apartment at all hours can be annoying. I would recommend if you book you ask for a first or second floor apartment.

I was very sorry to read such a bad review about our Residence, and would also like to state that it is the 1st negative feedback we have ever received.
I can assure the client that when she brought her complaint to our attention we responded immediately. We took action swiftly and placed air fresheners and a humidity absorber with crystals in the apartment.
Obviously they couldn't be seen by the naked eye as they were placed on the top of the wardrobe.
We would normally offer another apartment when clients are not happy but unfortunately we were fully booked at that moment.
I would also like to add that we have no dampness in any of our apartments whatsoever and the only cause for this complaint could be because the residence had just opened up for the season and the apartments had been closed all winter.
Finally, I would like to conclude by stating that we are a family friendly residence, and that the client never made any complaint at the time of her stay about noisy families.
We do try our best to satisfy all of our customers and I am really very sorry that these clients were not completely satisfied.

Very comfortable and clean apartments in a small complex behind Cannigione beach. There is only a small grassy park and the coast road (far enough for there to be no road noise)between it and the beach - the apartments are set above, but back from, the reception and restaurant area and most seem to face seawards - we were in a big 2-bedroomed apartment to the side and had stunning views from the large shaded balcony. There was aircon in the main lounge and both bedrooms - although we rarely used it, even in the 30C heat, as air circulated well in the apartment and there was a welcolme slight breeze most of the time.

There was a small but well equipped kitchen area, the bathroom was of a decent size with a good shower and the double bedroom was spacious with a larger than usual comfortable double bed.

The pool looks tiny on the website photos - I thought it might only be a plunge pool, but it is larger than that and was never particularly busy as people alternated lounging there with going to the nearby and other beaches. It is quite deep and very cold (delightfully so!) , but younger children had a shallow pool to play in. The pool deck area has plenty of sunloungers and large parasols - a very well kept area, with pretty flowers. There is also a small playground for young children.

The restaurant below the Residence is very popular (I believe it is one of the few that stay open all year) and we had good value pizzas there. Another good value eating place is the unlikely looking Linus Spaghetti Bar in the main street - just some plastic tables that get laid up on the raised pedestrian walkway, but with excellent and cheap pasta. We also ate at the Sciumara (not sure of the spelling) near the marina, but found the service graceless and rushed, with expensive and not particularly good food.

The supermarket in the main street (10 mins walk) is open all the day, and open early, but there is another branch of the same shop in the new development up behind the Residence, and they have a good fish counter (huge piles of grey octopus one day!). Get to the charming bakery on the main street for 8am opening - good bread and diet busting pastries from friendly staff.

We had a transfer included with our Holiday Options booking from the airport (the Saturday late afternoon jams into and out of the airport area were awful, so we were quite happy not to be driving then) but hired a car for a couple of days once we were in the resort. Despite being busy August, this didn't seem too difficult - there are three hire firms in the lower road near the boats (I think the one we used was called AM Service) and they brought the car to the apartment, did the paperwork there and then we just had to leave it there for them to pick up. About 64e a day for a VW with aircon and there is plenty of parking at the Residence.

There is a 'noddy' train that goes from the centre of Cannigione to some beaches further up, but it was too busy when we tried to use it. The beach at Cannigione isn't great - narrow and near the road, but there are lots of beaches you can find with a car and another, bigger beach about 10/15 minutes walk away.

We took a boat trip for the day , going to Maddalena and the beautiful outlying islands. Truly lovely white sand beaches and crystal water, but all the tour boats seem to run to the same timetable so all the stopping places get crowded at once! Still, a nice way to experience the coastline if you can't afford your own super-yacht (and there are plenty of those to be seen)

The Monday market off the main street was fun and huge - good fruit and food stalls and some clothing bargains - my daughter bought the most bling laden bejwelled beach caftan for 5e!

We liked Cannigione because it felt like a real and pretentious town, rather than the man made resorts further around on the Cost Smerelda, catering mainly to the sailing crowd. Works are currently underway to make a proper promenade by the marina and this will be a major improvement.

Fabulous accomodation at the Riva Azzura. Stayed here with my husband and teenage children at the end of June. The apartments are superb, views spectacular and staff really friendly and helpful. Well equipped and beautifully decorated, only complaint is that there is no linen or towel change during the stay. I would have happily paid extra for a change as its not great with towels that have been used for 7 days! 2 min walk into the small town and supermarket. Beach at cannigione ok but nicer ones further up the coast. Used local transport to get to Baia Sardinia, fabulous.., Porto Cervo...awesome..!!, Waterpark ... OK ...
A lovely holiday far away from the usual 'Brits Abroad' !!
