We booked this hotel through Just Sardinia and they recommended it because we wanted a quite hotel but with in easy walking distance of a small town/village - the hotel and Cannigione met all our requirements. The hotel is perched on a hillside and the downside to this is that the wind is quite high and they wouldn't put up the parasols for shade, as they had blown over and injured a guest, so the only place to obtain shade was to sit under the awning at the bar/side of the pool. The only other downside from our point of view was the restaurant, we ate there on the first evening and wasn't inspired by the menu and the food we did eat was, unfortunately, not overly hot on arrival and, as we were sat outside with a slight breeze, was quite cold by the end of the meal. However, this did not detract from a wonderful room, with an excellent view of the bay, lovely friendly staff, all eager to please. I will say the a/c in the room is not gret, but as the weather wasn't overly hot ( around 28 degrees) it didn't matter. But in July and August I think it could be quite uncomfortable if it wasn't colder. The breakfast buffet was excellent, with eggs to order your way. I can also highly recommend going out on the hotel's yacht. What an experience, one never to be forgotten! Luca, skipper's mate was adorable, skipper was a tad fractious at times but the meal they served on board was amazing. I can also recommend heading over to Corsica for the day on the ferry from Santa Teresa (approx. 50 mins drive from the hotel) leave the car in the car park and go over as a foot passenger to Bonifiaco, was an amazing day there. Go from the ferry terminal to the other side of the port and take the "Petit Train" (also known colloquially in the UK as a 'wally trolley') up to the old town - you won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: I would ask for a room that is single storey - as ours was. When in the spa, where there are rooms...

We started our Sardinia trip in this hotel. The ocean view from our room was wonderful and a great start to our trip in this charming and relaxing town. Definitely a place to unwind and shut off from everything.

Pros: The staff was extremely helpful with all our queries and even printed off suggestions of local beaches and sites without us asking.

The view from the room was stunning, very small outdoor garden patio to enjoy at our leisure.

Daily buffet breakfast was one of the best we had in Sardinia. Eggs cooked to order, fresh brewed coffee and many cheese, pastries, fresh fruit, Sardinian cakes, bread to choose from. The panoramic view from the pool terrace was a great start to the day.

Free parking onsite - I recommend hiring a car in Sardinia to get around as taxis are non existent in these areas other than main towns such as Olbia.

Do try the agriturismo as suggested by the hotel. We had a wonderful introduction to fresh produce prepared from the farm and sampled delicious local Sardinian dishes.

Cons: The hotel charges for every little thing which left a sour taste in our mouths. Just some examples...We asked for two glasses of iced water at the bar on our way out to explore Sardinia. The barman served us two glasses from a jug and proceeded to charge us 2 euro for each glass. I would expect to be charged for bottled water, but not from water poured from a free pouring jug. I also had to fax some papers and was charged 1 euro per page. The charges may all seem insignificant, but my small B & B in Rome faxed papers for me at no cost just days prior. While I was willing to pay for the cost to fax papers, 1 euro per page was just ridiculous.

There is all small beach near the hotel which isn't great, as it's right near the road and poor sand quality (if at all)...best to drive to other gorgeous beach locations about 20 mins away.

Cannigione is a very quiet and small town, which can be too quiet and boring for some wanting some form of nightlife.

Wifi only available in public areas, poolside and reading room

Room Tip: Best to bring clothes which require minimal ironing as they do not provide irons in most of the hote...

Beautiful hotel, nice rooms, great scenery. Staff is very polite, attentive, discreet, well-mannered. The hotel is very well located : you can either chill out at the pool and comfortable bar with astonishing sea-view, or hit the road and mix with the crowd on the nearby beaches and jetset towns. You can explore the inland.
Breakfast is very nice with a large selection for everyone's taste : sweets, cakes, cured meats, cheese, fruits, quiches, eggs....
The only thing we could not really enjoy was the pool : the sun was burning all day, and there is nowhere to hide if you want to cool off.... except in the bar sitting area. There are 2 pool umbrella's, but they are easily blown over by the wind. The pool area is small and you have to rush to secure a sunbed. So either you bake in the sun, or you sit in the bar. Perhaps management could find a way to create some alternative shade/sun space for pool guests.

we stayed here in may, so we got a pretty good rate in the off season. the hotel overlooks a bay and is perched on a hillside which has a number of homes all with the same southwestern us style of architecture. on a sunny day you will not find a more beautiful place than this. i wanted to buy a second house there when we arrived. the hotel itself is beautiful, clean, classy. the pool is great. the town itself is quiet but there are many nice towns on the costa smerelda within driving distance. the restaurant was a little pricier than restaurants nearby, but it was still much cheaper than our hometown of copenhagen. the breakfast was lovely. we had an ocean view room and it was worth the upgrade, although we probably would not have sprung for that during the high season. in any case, i would highly recommend this place.

Room Tip: get the ocean view!

This is the best hotel we have stayed at so far. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel very welcome by the reception staff and during our quick tour of the main areas of the hotel on route to our bedroom, we just knew that the Villa del Golfo was going to be a very special hotel. The views from our bedroom, the restaurant, bar and pool area were stunning. The whole ambiance of the hotel was relaxing and calming. The variety of food at breakfast and dinner was excellent. All the staff were friendly and attentive and this made us feel very welcome.
The highlight of the week was definitely the day trip on the hotel's own yacht. There were 8 guests on board (German, Austrian, Italian and Scottish) along with yacht's Captain Franco and crew Luca. We sailed round islands in the morning, dropped anchor while we had a chance to swim, followed by a delicious lunch with wine. The sun shone all day, the company was great and the wind was strong enough to make our return journey very exciting. A very memorable day of a truly fantastic week.

The layout of this hotel makes it so calming and the service levels were the highest and friendliest we have experienced. We had a Sea View Suite and it was like a small apartment with a double balcony and excellent views of the bay.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms get the sun in early morning, but balconies are in the shade after around 11 am. It d...
