“Late night seafood elegance, but with a harsh edge on what should have been equally elegant service”
Reviewed September 6, 2013

After an evening arrival in Sardinia and two thirds the way through our drive to our resort in Capo d'Orso, we chanced upon stopping in the coastal town of Cannigione not only for a journey break but what also turned out to be a bite of dinner. It was after a short walk along the harbour, that we dined at this restaurant delightfully perched along the main road, just a touch away from the waterfront.

The interior is soft-touch seaside town elegance, however other touches were unfortunately less enchanting at times. As we entered and stepped in probably only 3 or 4 paces, we were abruptly told to "stay there" and walk no further(!) as it were, and as if we were intruding on this well versed set up of a restaurant. And so though we said we had not booked, the same waiter, who had perhaps for the benefit of his doubt shouted out at us shall we say in "enthusiasm" rather than in anxiousness or even rudeness, proceeded to promptly show us to a table.

We were happy still at this stage to overlook his Italianate brio which may have come across brusquely, however after only a few minutes he then returned to say if we would mind changing tables without really waiting for our response or even showing us which table it would actually be, instead just saying it was in any case a better table with the implication that we had to accept the change anyway. The table was indeed a nicer one however this and other touches throughout the evening continued to reinforce what I would describe as slightly edgy and sarcastic behaviour from the service. It was unfortunately really only that particular waiter who was assigned to us who was culprit to misdemeanour, as we noticed others being easy going and quite regular.

On the positive side, the lady who looked like she was the proprietor, seemed very friendly and a calming hand on proceedings and the food itself was quite excellent throughout, including the big mixed grill which was grilled exquisitely to a tee with prawns, lobster all tasty and succulent. It turned out on reflection that in terms of the food it was one of the better dinners during our whole trip in Sardinia, and so we were still glad to have paid an impromptu visit, brusque at times it may have felt on the service/waitering end of things !

“Magnificent !!”
Reviewed August 30, 2013

Wow - the best by a long way. Great menu and wine list, brilliant attentive service and the food and wine are just magnificent. Try the spaghetti with lobster, prawns, mussels and clams - it is fantastic as is the Rocca Rubia wine. Hope to go back if we have time. Very stylish clientele too

“Good, but not excellent.”
Reviewed August 7, 2013

We ate here twice and had some very good food on our first visit but were disappointed with the second visit. The first time we had excellent service and good advice on choosing from the menu. Starters of tuna tartare with mango and prawns with celery and apple were very good. Mains were good- lamb chops (very good) and steak ( a bit overdone but still nice) . Rosemary roast potatoes were very poor- t lukewarm, soft and tasted as if they had been reheated several times. Deserts were excellent as were the dessert wines. Wines list good was very reasonable.

Our our second visit we had to wait 20 minutes before being offered a drink, even though we had a reservation. We made the mistake of having too much shellfish- starters and main. The oysters on the crudités were unpleasant and the lobster on the mixed grill was chewy and tasteless. Generally the service was not as good as the first visit. We were probably unfortunate on our second visit but it was disappointing.

“Superb food, good location”
Reviewed August 3, 2013

We found the "Zattera" looking for good revies on tripadivers, we went there (it's easy to find, directly on the main road in Cannigione), got a table, and... and we were astonished: great elegant service, nice location (intern), and great (!!!) food!!!
Need to make reservation.
The stuff is very friendly and professional, it is the best restaurant in the area for sure!
Ask for some good wines, there are plenty.

“Excellent food in a beautiful setting!”
Reviewed August 1, 2013

The burrata appetizer was exquisite and the ambience and service made the dinner all the more special. Get the traditional Sardinian dolce seadas for dessert, it was excellent, and the mirto was served over frozen ice with leaves from the plant, a beautiful touch! And it was their treat, even though we ordered it on our own! This place is an excellent choice in the small casual town of Cannigione!
