“Another Wonder of the World-White Sand Dunes”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 13, 2012

We saw the most amazing place in Maranhao, Brazil. The most beautiful white sand dunes with aqua pools of water as far as the eye can see. The area has been names a State Park and for good reason. The sands seems untouched. You can tour with a guide on quadrunners and swim in the clear blue pools of tepid water. Then stop at a small lodge for a beverage and lunch and to just relax. It is a must see in your lifetime. You would never regret seeing the spectacular wonder of nature. And you may not see another traveler all day.

“Amazing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 6, 2012

Best time to go is in August - when it is not too hot and wet season has just finished. Be prepared to do some walking over some sand dunes to find the lagoons - they do tend to dry up if the rains are scarce during the year. Finally, bring lots of water and sunscreen!

“Dunes, Lagoes, heat, desert”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 6, 2012

The tour on the loading area of the Toyota to the lagos through the magia and the dunes is demanding for your belly-depending of the driver. In case the climate is too hot and the lagos are not filled by water a stay of 2 max. 3 days is sufficient to get an impression of how it could look like if more water is filling the lagunes in the desert.

“Absolutely wonderful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 15, 2012

Walking the sand dunes and bathing on the clear pluvial water lagoons on our own was one of the most sensational experiences of our lives. There was absolutely nobody on the park, just the two of us, the amazing nature, the sound of the breeze, mixture of sunshine and light rain. We stayed in Atins and walked the dunes from this corner. We visited in June, so the lagoons were filled with water.

“Amazing views and experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2012

Parque dos Lencois was simply beautiful and the colors of the sand dunes were even more intense as the sun began to set! I booked this tour through Rafael Marques, the owner/operator of MaraMazon (maramazon.com). He speaks fluent English, Portuguese and Spanish and was extremely knowledgeable about the entire area. As he advised, the evening trip is the best, and you should wear sunblock and protect your skin- the Brasilian sun in Maranhao is always intense. Be prepared for a rough but fun ride to the dunes and a 20-30 minute walk to the main lagoon where you can relax and swim in beautiful, clean water. It is truly an adventure! Thanks, Rafael!!!!
