catch the tiny free ferry over the water to arrive at the hideaway's jetty and enjoy the twinkling lights and atmosphere of Marigot Bay, where the old film version of Dr. Doolittle was filmed. Order the prawn risotto dish. EC Dollars 130 for 2 courses if I remember correctly and a little more for 3 courses.

Dear Jo_lee_spain

Thanks for taking the time to file a review of Rainforest. You are correct with pricing - EC$130 (US$48) for a two course dinner (main plus appetiser or desert) or EC$160 (US$59) for all three courses. All diners also receive a bruschetta and an amuse bouche, compliments of the Chef......

The pricing is not much different from comparable fine dining restaurants in Europe or North America - but since we rely heavily on imported materials, our costs can be higher when freight and import duties are factored in.

We ate here twice - food excellent. One meal was really slow, the other perfect. Couldn't get in again, but would absolutely recommend it.

Dear Jane W

Thanks for taking the trouble to write a review of your experience at Rainforest - and for the high rating and recommendation. My apologies for the slow service on one of the visits. We have been full every night over the Christmas/New Year period and lost some wait staff to illnesses - a seasonal hazard. It cannot have spoiled your experience to much as you were trying to come back for a third time..!

Thanks for the review

Dear Timinguy

Thanks for your very positive review of Rainforest. Lovely complement - and our sights are now set beyond the Windwards - since our latest award from TripAdvisor listed us as one on the "Top Ten Fine Dining Restaurants in the Caribbean" - competing from Puerto Rico all the way down to Aruba. Perhaps I need a vacation to go check out the competition..!

Thanks for the review.

From the moment you are met by the general manager on the jetty, you know you are going to be in for something special. It was a Wednesday night so we experienced stunning scenery accompanied by the soulful voice of Empress IIIa, add to this inventive yet honest food and we found ourselves in our idea of heaven. By the time we had finished our starters I was asking if they had a table 3 days later, this was where we wanted to spend the 40th birthday we were in St Lucia to celebrate. A huge thanks to all the staff but a special mention to our waitress on both evenings Keithe, charming and efficient she was a true credit to such an amazing restaurant.

Dear LA201 1079

Many thanks for coming to Rainforest and then choosing to come back for such an important celebration. We get many people coming twice during their vacation - which is very important to us as we know you have a very wide choice of restaurants - in St Lucia and even a choice of nine in Marigot.. Keitha is our most recent addition to the wait staff - so she will be thrilled and encouraged by your feedback - but I am pleased that you recognise the staff in general as it is very much a team effort.

Thanks for coming twice and for your positive review

We had dinner here one evening and although the food was good there were several things that kept the rating from being fabulous. Sitting where it does in a lovely setting we were bothered a bit by the smells of the bay which were probably from much of the fuel from all the boats in the bay. Although it can't be helped if you have a sensitive nose when dining it bothered some at the table. When we arrived the person seating us seemed very rushed and panicky and abrupt with our group. The service on the evening we were there was very slow and we waited a long time for our drinks and bill after we were through eating. Our fish was delicious as were most of the other dishes, It was similar to what we were accustomed to on many of the islands better restaurants and nothing over the top. The setting is very rustic and pretty.

Dear livingood

Thanks for coming to Rainforest and for the feedback.

I am very sorry that the service was not up to our usual standard - and when one thing isn't going well its fairly natural to start focusing on other problems - like the odours from the bay. We do have an odour problem very occasionally - not from boat diesel or engine fumes as they disperse fairly quickly - but the natural smell from the mangroves. At times, usually at very low tides, they can give off an unpleasant odour. We are mindful of the issue and at these times we try and mask it with incense sticks - and have not to my knowledge ever had a complaint about it before. People all want waterfront tables in the restaurant for the views and ambiance - but occasionally being so close to the water and mangroves has its downside...!

I'm pleased that you were satisfied with the food - sorry about the service. If you are still on-island and want to give us another try we will make an appropriate goodwill gesture if you contact me.
