“Nice evening out”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 27, 2013 via mobile

I booked this restaurant after reading good reviews on trip advisor. It was very straight forward, with no problems at all. Emailing me with instructions on how to get across the bay to the restaurant.
Our table was booked for 6.30pm and we had time for a drink before being seated at our table. The location is wonderful and our table was right on the waters edge.
The staff were very friendly and the live jazz was very good.
Both my husband and I felt the food was ok, but a little overpriced. Some items on the menu had supplements , one of them being 5 shrimps on a small mound of risotto , which was slightly overlooked . That said, we had a nice evening but not sure if we would return.

Dear Pompeychic1

Thanks for your review of your experience at Rainforest.

We expect to be judged on our ambiance, service and food - and it seems in your case we satisfied you with the first two - but not the food. I am very sorry if the food fell below the standard you expected. Every kitchen has an off-moment - and I have already followed-up with the Chef in respect of the risotto.

In the main, our dishes are not large - but have intense flavours. Our object is to get diners to experience a wide variety of flavours - including the complimentary bruschetta and amuse bouche - rather than overdose on any one flavour. The current chili and lemon grass infused shrimp with herb and garlic Caribbean risotto and ginger sauce - is a good example of these distinctive flavours - and is my personal favourite item on the current menu.

We appreciate your feedback

Great location. Very friendly welcome. Live jazz and lovely food. Slightly expensive but worth it. We would highly recommend it to anyone staying in Marigot as a 'must do'.

“Our Best Experience Dining in Marigot Bay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 15, 2013

As we were staying on the North side of the bay, we were able to walk through the forest to the
restaurant, which was a fantastic little walk on a wooden path.
We arrived at the restaurant and were immediately seated right by the water (as I'd requested).
The place is lovely, charming and atmospheric without overdoing it The service was attentive but
not fawningly so. And of course, the food!! Superb, gourmet cuisine. Everything was great...
It is not an inexpensive night out, but it was so far superior to any other meal we had in Marigot... if you're going to splurge one night, this is the place. We did take the ferry boat back,
by the way...

Dear Socotronic

Thanks for your very positive review of Rainforest Hideaway. The reviews are seen by all the staff - who will find yours very motivational.

We are the most expensive independent restaurant in Marigot Bay - but the costs of maintaining our status as TripAdvisor's no 1 restaurant in Marigot for nearly ten years are considerable. We try to provide a memorable experience - not just a meal....

Great location, great staff, great food and service, might benefit from a bigger menu but overall a great night out.

Dear rohas

Thanks for your review of Rainforest. Our Menu is fairly short - currently a choice of five starters, eight main courses and five deserts - largely because both the restaurant and kitchen themselves are quite small. We have taken the view that it is better to do a smaller number of dishes well - than increase the menu and create potential operational, logistical and storage problems in the kitchen that might impact quality.

Thanks for the feedback - which I will discuss with the team

“Just as Good 5 Years Later”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 8, 2013

This was a return trip to St. Lucia for us and we had such lovely meal at Rainforest 5 years ago we decided to try it out again! It was just as lovely if not better this time around - I had been raving about it to several other couples and was nervous it wouldn't live up to my previous expectations - but it was absolutely perfect!! From the cute little boat ferry across the bay you can see the Rainforest lit up - when you get off the boat you immediately notice how well the restaurant fits in with the natural landscape. There is a great area to watch the tarpin and jacks swimming since they have put lights in the water to illuminate everything. We were welcomed immediately by someone at the bar (owner perhaps?) who was very friendly and welcoming and got us a great seat at the bar for our first round of drinks. Its just nice to relax and take in the gorgeous surrounding. We moved to our table, right on the water and had such a wonderful server, she was attentive but not over-bearing, has the wonderful island laid back charm, and was just perfect all night. She even tried to hunt down some lobster for my boyfriend who was moaning and complaining about how much he wanted to eat it on his last night! There were two lovely amuse buches from the restaurant - first a really fresh bruschetta and next a wonderful seared tuna. Most people went with salads for appetizers and they were incredibly generous portions. I had the fresh shrimp and carribean risotto - so wonderful - the shrimp were perfectly spicy and the risotto was a refreshing compliment! We had another enchanting meal at the Rainforest - thanks so much - we hope well be back again soon!!!

Dear Athena15AlbanyNY

We are so very pleased that your return visit to Rainforest - after 5 years - exceeded the high expectations derived from your first visit. I am sure you will appreciate that when a restaurant has enjoyed a high reputation for many years it becomes progressively harder to maintain it - our splendid team have to work harder every day..! Myron, one of our local chefs and Jean Renee, our General Manager, were here five years ago - so great credit to them.

Jim Verity, the restaurant founder and first Executive Chef, returned to the UK in 2009 but will be very pleased to know that his "baby" is in capable hands - whilst he works hard in London to get his first Michelin Star....

We hope you will be just as impressed if you come back in another five years. Consistency is the most important characteristic a restaurant can achieve
