if you can have dinner there, do! watch the tarp, jack and other large fish swim in the lit lagoon waters..amazing
Likes: Management: JR is the best, thanks for the great pics. Food and service was top notch. Rum selection was vast and cocktails were great.
Dislikes: none, though i wish they infused more local ingredients into menu

Thank cspring

Dear cspring

Thanks for your very positive review of Rainforest - highlighting the food and service and the unusual and mesmerising display of fish in the lighted lagoon....

I note your comments about wanting to see more local ingredients on the Menu but to achieve the right balance between Caribbean flavours and quality we have for the most part adopted the policy of using Caribbean products in all the sauces and sides - but generally use imported meats and fish for the core of the Main dishes - as we simply cannot find local sources of consistent quality.

Most of the Starters and all the Deserts are made from local ingredients - with many of the fruits and herbs grown on our own property...

We went with a group of 6 ladies. Everything from the arrangements to the trip back was top notch. John the owner is just lovely. The place is such a gem. The location and setting on the water among the mangroves is just amazing. They arranged free taxi service for us, then u get the quick free ferry across the bay then we had drinks on the water watching the fish. The drinks were delicious. Then to dinner under the stars. The service was wonderful they were so accommodating to all our dinner requests. The free little scrumptious items the chef sent out were to die for. The portions were wonderful. The ceaser was delicious. The crab cake - out of this world. And the tortellini.... Well not only was the pasta hand rolled but it was seriously the best thing I have ever put in my mouth. I'm Italian so it takes a lot to impress me with pasta. The mushrooms were so fresh and the edamame spinach white cheese sauce was just perfection! Our only mistake was waiting til our last night to go to this place or we would have gone back. Or and not saving room for dessert was a big mistake too. It looked divine! And to top it off the owner sent me a note of thanks the next day. Now that's what I call 5 stars!

My husband, 2 sons and I stayed on Marigot Bay for a week in August. We actually never ate at Rainforest Hideaway, but went for drinks and dessert on Saturday and Wednesday night when they have a fabulous jazz singer perform. We stayed on the same side of the bay as the restaurant and we were able to walk through a dimly little (wouldn't want to do it alone) boardwalk through the mangrove forest at the edge of the bay. You can also take the water taxi. Sitting on the edge of the bay, listening to amazing jazz, seeing the sky filled with stars, watching the yachts at anchor a few yards away and sipping a tropical drink - that is heaven on earth.

Dear momof308

Thanks for your enthusiastic review of Rainforest - which provides the opportunity to highlight the bar experience at Rainforest. Our bar is set out along the side of the dinghy dock - where underwater lighting draws in shoals of fish - once called "an aquarium with a bar attached". Watching the fish is a mesmerising experience and its a great place to relax and listen to the Jazz on Wednesday and Saturday nights - even if you don't want a full dinner......

Maybe next time you will try the full Rainforest experience and have dinner with us..!

We had a hard time finding this place. As we told to the manager, we asked about 17 people along our way coming from the Roseau Valley (only 5min from the restaurant!). There is no sign or indication that could help you, ask people to go Marigot bay.

We took a very fast (1min) free water taxi to go to the restaurant. We arrived at night and you could see plenty of fishes in the water, very impressive.

You can only choose between two menus:

- Appetizer+Entree or Entree+Desert for $153 EC (about $60 USD) incl. taxes/service

or

- Appetizer+Entree+Desert for $189 EC (about $75 USD) incl. taxes/service

Most cocktails (very good) are sold for about $24 EC (about $9 USD) incl. taxes/service, a lot of people are coming there only for drinks.

The food was "OK" but really not worth the price, we had a better experience a Orlando's (Soufriere) for 3 times cheaper.

What you are looking for there instead of the food is more the overall experience:

- Very friendly and welcoming management
- Very nice cosy place along the water
- Nice lighting (at night)

The manager (Jean-René) was just exceptional, greeting all the tables, sharing fascinating stories with everyone, while being very attentive to your experience. Congratulations to him, he is definitely doing a good job making guests feeling comfortable.

Warning: they are open only 4 days a week, from Wednesday to Saturday

Dear John D

Glad you found us in the end - but I am amazed that you found 17 people in such a short distance on the road from Roseau - and non could direct you to Marigot Bay - one of the most famous locations in St Lucia. You were indeed very unlucky....!

Marigot Bay is marked on all maps, signed on the roads and the turning to Marigot from the main west coast road is marked with a forest of signs for Marigot businesses, hotels and restaurants.

I am pleased that you enjoyed the ambiance and service when you got to Rainforest, but I must take issue with your comments on our prices. You draw a comparison with Orlandos in Soufriere (a great restaurant - and one of my favourites) but on checking your review of Orlandos it is apparent that you are comparing our dinner prices with Orlandos lunch prices - and not surprisingly Orlandos was much cheaper. Their dinner prices are not cheaper by any significant margin.

As you rightly point out, we are only open Wednesday through Saturday nights during the Summer, Low Season - but we still have our popular live jazz on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

We do offer Prix Fixe, two and three course Menus - but in operation we are quite flexible. As you will see from the next review - some guests come in just for desserts and drinks and we are very flexible with Menu sharing. The Prix Fixe Menu has been very popular in these austere times - when most diners want to manage their financial exposure.

I assume you found your way home OK....

Well what can I say. What a fantastic experience. It starts from your trip across the bay by water taxi and just gets better from there. The setting is so impressive, relaxing and chilled. The staff are attentive, friendly but certainly not overbearing. The atmosphere is perfect. On our visit, they had a Jazz singer who really complemeted the setting. My wife and I were celebrating an anniversary and we could not have faulted it. The menu has variety and is of a high quality. Yes it was a special occasion which will live with us forever but its a must for any visitor to St Lucia.

Dear yorkiejules

Thanks for the terrific review of your dining experience at Rainforest - on such an important anniversary night. Your review was the 13th five star review (out of 14) since the beginning of July - taking us up to seventh in the national TripAdvisor listing and third in the "fine dining" category - a splendid performance by all the staff - being recognised by the guests.

Everyone's a winner - which I hope we can say about our mutual support for Huddersfield Town - come the end of the season..!

Top bloke - come back soon
