The Caribbean Blue Suite was undersold to us. Walking into the property was eye opening. We could not believe what a beautiful place we had found. We had a long trip from Washington, D.C. but our arrival at St. Lucia Airport was fine. The drive from the airport gave us a nice overview of the island; our driver stopped for us to get a beer on the way and enjoy a quick view of the eastern side of the island. Then we arrived in Marigot Bay and at Caribbean Blue. The day of traveling just melted away from that moment. Lettie the housekeeper was there to meet us and show us around the house. Shortly afterwards, Alice the owener arrived and gave us a bit more information. Then she drove us down to the marina and showed us around. We did some quick shooping at the grocery and took a taxi back "up the hill" to home. From then on, it was pure heaven for an entire week. Peace and quiet, lovely weather and views. We read and swam and just enjoyed our time here.
Although there are many activities available, we choose to stay at "home" and just relax. The house is very private and secluded which is very nice. The house is located on a bluff on the south side of Marigot Bay and overlooks the Caribbean Sea. Because it's on a bluff, it is a bit of a hike down to the marina village. It's not a long walk, about 15 minutes max, but it is quite steep at one point. We never tried to walk back up; we always took a taxi (8 US plus tip) but if you're not otherwise exploring it's still better than renting a car. We met some people staying in the next house who did walk up so it is doable.
For amenities, the Caribbean Blue Suite is fully loaded for our needs. There is a full kitchin with fridge and freezer, stove and oven, microwave, toaster oven and even a blender. There is a radio with CD player (we didn't have any so we didn't try to player) . We made full use of the kitchin and cooked at home. There is a raft to go with the plunge pool which is quite refreshing. The bedroom is lovely and comfortable. It was a very pleasant place to fall asleep after each lovely day. The bathroom is great, a nice large shower. There is a converter located here - we charged our camera battery once but otherwise didn't need it. Lettie the housekeeper comes each day; the pool was cleaned twice during the week we were there.
We spent most of our time on the deck reading and watching boats and ships come and go. The deck and pool are really the best part of the house. The view is one of the best I've experienced in 25+ years of visiting the Caribbean islands. The sunsets each day were just incredible.
There are several restaurants in the village. We choose to eat at home for breakfast and dinner. We did eat at Hurricane Hole for a late lunch several times and that was very nice. Shopping at the small grocery is easy and convienent. If you plan your menus ahead of time take a taxi to the IGA for one main shopping trip and just "top off" as needed over the week at the marina grocery.
So in summary:
Negatives: Don't leave food out - the birds will avail themselves of it!
Positives: Privacy, geckos, a lovely place, the view, the view, the view!!!!!
Song of the Trip: "Barbra Streisand" by Duck Sauce
Alice, Lettie and Albert - can't wait to see you all again!
