“Lovely Stay!”
Reviewed July 23, 2014

Speckled securely atop the northern hillside overlooking picturesque Marigot Bay, the Oasis Marigot Vacation Club Villas (VCV) provide the quintessential respite from the hustle and bustle of daily life, as well as the ideal location for access to many of St. Lucia's treasures. Nestled within a lush explosion of greens, pinks, oranges, and yellows, and surrounded by the soft serenades of tropical birds, VCV were peeled straight from a postcard. Accessible first by ferry, then by an excruciatingly lethargic hillside trolley, VCV allow you to get away from it all without actually being too far away from it all. The amenities in our villa were basic, but sufficient: a hot shower, clean sheets, a wide variety of kitchen necessities, indoor seating, a pullout couch for extra sleep space, and a balcony that comfortably seated four. The staff was helpful, but not bothersome, offering multiple excursions and laundry services. As it was the low season, it seemed that the staff worked limited hours, which actually helped establish the idyllic, secluded feel that many travelers crave on island vacations.

One drawback to the location is the lack of restaurant options. With only two restaurants on the same side of the bay, the relaxed traveler may be roped in to paying higher prices instead of committing to exploring possibilities a little farther from VCV. The food and beverages at both establishments are lovely, though, so all is not lost.

Another potential drawback to the location is the existence of locals in the bay attempting to sell wares and excursions. The seasoned, surly traveler will have no problem sending these gentlemen on their way, but those who are too polite may have some difficulties sending them packing. We actually met a really nice local gentleman who gave us some great deals and showed us an amazing time. For the most part, it seems like the men are honest and hardworking, and looking to capitalize on St. Lucia's burgeoning tourist industry.

All in all, VCV is an amazing place to call home for a few days!

Beautiful location. The view from the upper porch of the villa was amazing. Don't be put off by the fact that u must take a small launch across the narrow mouth of the bay to access the hotel. The staff (both named Trevor) met us at the shore and moved quite a bit of heavy luggage with a very warm and welcoming attitude. The staff in the office at check in was very informative. What a memorable place and a great value!

We thoroughly enjoyed our 10-day stay at the beginning of April 2014 at Villa St. Lucia at Oasis Marigot in Marigot Bay on St Lucia. Villa St. Lucia is spacious, airy, charming, clean, and private, and has nice views. It is neither new nor elegant nor luxurious, but if you want to relax and wind down in a classic Caribbean villa, this is a good choice. We recommend it highly for couples or small groups or families, as long you know what you’re getting into.

As always, please read lots of reviews of both the property and the area to hear different viewpoints; just because we liked it doesn’t mean you will. For some background information on us, see the bottom of this review.

Also, make sure you understand Marigot Bay in general (I posted a review on Marigot Bay in general, in the Forums under Marigot Bay here at Tripadvisor). It’s a pretty unique area, and while we liked it for the most part, it may not be your cup of tea.

Oasis Marigot is a collection of villas, mostly on the north hillside overlooking Marigot Bay (Oasis Marigot has a few properties on the south side as well). It is not a hotel; the only “common” areas are the guest services office and a small pool. But it does have some hotel amenities: housekeeping, porters, and guest services.

All of the staff members are friendly, helpful, and competent. In particular, Guest Services was quite good. They have lots of info and will make pretty much any arrangement you want. They will, however, sway you towards their favorite services, which doesn’t always work out. As an example, for a water taxi to Anse Cochon, we used their recommendation, and he was adequate. However, later in our stay, we independently arranged our own water taxi tour with our new friend Denver, who owns/operates Shahamane water taxi. He was great: witty, funny, and laid back. You will feel safe and welcome. Just go down to the beach and ask anybody, literally, for Denver.

Oasis Marigot is located just above and adjacent to the Marigot Beach Club; in fact, it’s hard to tell where one begins and the other ends. While Oasis Marigot has no restaurant , Marigot Beach Club does and it is convenient for all meals (including breakfast) and a drink.
Oasis Marigot is reachable only by small boat or ferry (a 3-minute ride across the bay), and this adds not only to the charm, but also to the serenity.

The Oasis Marigot property is not large, and it even appears congested. But in spite of this, it feels really private. Chalk this up to the steepness of the hill (when you look straight out, you’re looking straight across the bay) and to the lush landscaping.

Yes, it is steep. The small (and really quaint) trolley helps, but there are still some steps and steep walking on both ends of the trolley. I don’t mean to scare you away….if you can walk to the supermarket from your car, you’ll be fine. But if you have serious mobility issues, Oasis Marigot is not for you.

Villa St. Lucia is spacious and airy, at least on the main floor (We rented only the main floor, and just peeked into the lower floor.). Most of the main floor is one large “great room”---combination living room and dining room—and it is quite large. Best of all, this great room is basically a gigantic screened –in veranda, and both the breezes and views are superb. There is nearly an end-to-end view of Marigot Bay, and due to the steepness of the hill, you are at looking straight through the tops of swaying palm trees to the water and south side of the Bay. We spent many hours just reading and enjoying the views and the bustle of the boat traffic below; very relaxing. (To be fair, while the view straight out is fabulous, the view down the hill includes the backs and tops of the lower buildings.)

The kitchen, while not large, is exceptionally well-outfitted—as good as we’ve experienced. All of the appliances and utensils are new and clean. There is a complete set of dishes/glasses/etc for six people. There are ample bowls, saucepans, trays, spatulas, spoons, gadgets, cookware, etc. to easily prepare a meal. There is a coffee maker and blender. Again, everything is new and clean.

On the main floor, there are two large bedrooms each with its own bathroom. Each bedroom has a single king bed and medium sized closet with a safe. The A/C in each is new and effective.

The bathrooms are also large and clean, but to be fair, a bit dated. Hint: the east bedroom---the one closer to the trolley—has better water pressure.

Each bedroom/bathroom suite is lockable with keyed locks from the great room.
The plunge pool and large surrounding deck (much larger than in their pictures) was very nice, and it was particularly nice for us because the lower floor was not rented, so we had the whole thing to ourselves. In fact, swimming au naturel (“skinny dipping”) is possible and recommended, even during the day. The landscaping makes it very private.

We found the price very reasonable, even for two. If you have a small group, it’s a downright steal.

Please feel free to contact me if you have questions.

Background on us: We are a married American couple in our early 50s. We’ve travelled to the Caribbean 20+ times and visited 10+ islands. Our favorite locations have been St Lucia, Nevis (where we were married), Grenada, and St John. Our least favorites were Grand Cayman and Provo. We like smaller properties and villas as opposed to large hotels. We enjoy quiet relaxation, beach time, and meeting the locals.

We stayed at the Emerald Hill Villa May 21st to May 28th. This place did not disappoint!!! We flew into the airport and were greeted by Albert once we passed customs. He drove us the hour and 15 minutes up to the villa and when we walked in we felt like we were home! We had the groceries delivered to our villa and they as well as Christina the house keeper and Uriel the manager were waiting when we arrived.
Alice has put a lot of thought and effort into making this a homey, relaxing, and just plain spectacular place to be.
If you like wildlife, this is the place to stay. We did go on three tours while in St. Lucia but just from your very own wade pool or deck you can see many species of bird, mongoose, and gecko/lizards as well as pretty large sized hermit crabs on occasion at night and butterflies.

There are 110 volt outlets in the kitchen and 220 volts elsewhere so convertor is not needed. The cell phone they provided was perfect and came in very handy. The Mari Gourmet grocery is at the bottom of the will and the hill is steep and not as well groomed of a road as you would like but if in decent shape is quite doable. There is the option of having a taxi take you back up the hill for $10 us.

The utensils, pots, and pans are sufficient but be mindful that you need to keep thinks safe and away from the "land sharks" always swimming around you...the birds!!! They will snatch your bread right off the counter so Glad bags or the like may be a good thing to bring or buy. The do have some Tupperware available but a few extra storage options may help you.

Aqua shoes may be safer to walk on when you are dripping wet out of the pool as the tiles can get a bit slippery. I, as others recommend reading "The Man Who Loved Schooners" before you go, the man it is written about built the house.

Enjoy and soak in the beautiful view, you will not be disappointed!!!

We booked a villa (no 6) for a two week stay and thoroughly enjoyed staying here.

The villas are serviced regularly and efficiently. They have ceiling fans and air conditioning (though the latter is at additional cost) - we did not use the air con and and had no trouble sleeping. They are fully equipped with cutlery, plates, cooking equipment, fridge/freezer, microwave, cooker.

Guest Services are on site and I recommend using them - they offer advice and can sell you excursions (but do not do so by ramming trips down your throat). They can sort out taxis, car hire, restaurant bookings and water taxis. Nigella was a star :)

If you hire a car, it is parked across the bay in the village car park.

The villas sit on the north side of the bay and can only be reached by using a 24 hour passenger ferry from the other side. We used this most days and only once suffered a long wait (that was at 05:00 in the morning when the ferryman was reluctant to get up).

There is a funicular railway which you can use to reach the villas and it is easy to use and worked the entire time we were there.

We spent many an hour on the villa verandah watching yachts coming and going. As for birds, it's easy, we saw many - including the St Lucia Oriole, an endemic species. If you like birdwatching these villas come highly recommended.

Marigot Bay can be lively but not too the extent that you need ear plugs :)

There is a good choice of restaurants all within minutes journey.

Great place to holiday.

It was amazing how many people at the resort and the surrounding area remembered us from last year....makes you feel nice to receive warm welcomes. We really think this is the best place to stay. The bay is very beautiful and quiet. We really enjoy sitting our on our balcony enjoying the nice breeze and looking out over the bay. Fantastic way to spend a vacation. It is also very nice that we have kitchen facilities so that we don't have to go out every night which can be expensive. The diving is very good too!!

It was our first time (04/16/14-04/22/14) in St. Lucia and we picked Oasis Marigot based on price, location and reviews on Trip Advisor, we were not disappointed. We stayed in Oasis 1 and the cottage/villa as well as the sounding grounds are very well maintained and groomed. No compliant whatsoever, its a retreat for true R&R. Anything you need to make your stay more pleasant is easily accessible and across the bay in the marina. Miranda at guest services, helped plan all our activities, including finding car service to tour the island/airport - (if you need transportation - ask for Andrew, his vehicles are well maintained and Andrew is a great driver). It's expensive (the whole island is) and somewhat remote, but the scenery and relax atmosphere more than makes up for it, if you want night life go to Rodney Bay, if you want faux exclusivity go to the resorts in Soufriere, if you want a relaxing time stay in Marigot Bay. We went to Rodney Bay and Soufriere and we were glad to have chosen Marigot Bay instead and Oasis Marigot in particular. There are plenty of other good places to stay in St. Lucia (not sure if there is a bad place to stay) but for our money Oasis Marigot is the best choice.
