My wife and I recently stayed at the Emerald Hills Villa in Marigot Bay. Though absolutely stunning online, the pictures don't come close to comparing with the real thing. This villa was amazing, with panoramic views of the ocean and the bay and a wrap around deck along nearly half of the villa. The staff, Christina and Cornelius, were incredibly friendly and attentive. We even got to meet and receive a brief history lesson from the owner who has been a resident of St. Lucia now for more than 50 years.
The Villa is located at one of the highest points in Marigot Bay, making the view worth more than a 1000 words, and yet still, is just a 2 minute drive or short refreshing walk to all of the resorts, bars, restaurants, and other hidden gems that make-up Marigot Bay. You even have an option to have a private chef come to the home and cook for you and your friends, family, or significant other in the case that you'd rather spend the night in and enjoy the Villa and all that it has to offer. WIFI was not the best, but is included which is hard to find on the island. Besides, who wants to be "plugged-in" when you're trying to "disconnect".
Thank you all for making our memorable occassion extra special. We hope to return St. Lucia sometime in the future, and are sure to stay at your property again. Until then, we will be quick to tell everyone we run into about your beautiful location and all of the good people and fun local places to meet and attend while staying in Marigot Bay.

Thanks again from Austin Texas,

April and Jesse Keenan

We just got back from a fabulous week in St Lucia at the Oasis Marigot. It has one of the most beautiful settings & locations on the island. Breakfast every morning on our deck with the view & the birds was such a treat. The staff was so helpful & friendly & went above & beyond. From our first day to our last they were making sure we were enjoying our stay there. Sam the Manager even came to our room a couple of times to make sure that my husband was okay when he found out he got food poisoning in Soufriere.

We ate at Julietta's, JD's, Doolittle's, Chateau Mygo & they were all good, but the best food we had was at the Ti Kaye resort. We hired Denver & his boat one day to take us over to their beach & we had a great time. We rented lounge chairs & an umbrella for $10 US. They have a great place to snorkel & a guy scaled a coconut tree & picked us some coconuts. Another day we also hired Denver to take us to the North end to Pigeon Island, Rodney Bay & Castires. All worth seeing. It's not cheap to get around there, though. Just plan on paying at least $20 US each to have a boat take you to the closest beach. We paid $150 for the boat trip to the North end. Taxi's are expensive too. We hired a tour guide to drive us to the Pitons, Mineral Baths, Soufriere, the Waterfalls & Botanical Gardens & it was $150 US. It was all worth seeing.

We brought some snacks & bread from home & were glad we did. Their grocery store didn't have a lot to choose from. Make sure you buy fruit from the stands along the road. We decided not to rent a car.... Their roads are crazy windy & we thought that trying to drive & seeing the sites would be too dangerous. Plus, the St Lucian's drive too fast & crazy.

Our unit (#6) had air conditioning & we were glad it did. It's worth the extra money. It did rain a lot while we were there but it never stopped us from doing what we wanted to do. We met so many nice people from all over the globe during our stay.

Everyone complained about getting bit by all the bugs, but we didn't get bit once. Brought bug spray & never used it. The funicular was great to have because it is a long way up to the units.

We went to the Friday night Fish Fry & that was genuinely a experience not to miss. Our food was terrible (we just picked the wrong place to get ours from) but it was fun watching all the people.
We came back to Doolittle's & got some pasta. haha

St Lucia is a gorgeous island, but it will probably be our last time going there..... So many other islands to visit.

We had a really wonderful time here the 2nd week of May. I think my wife and I did most all we set out to see and do on the lovely island of St. Lucia. Oasis Marigot was a great base to come and go from. I first of all highly recommend you "DO" get a rent a car and see the island on your own. I drive on all the islands I've been and it's great to get out and see all that you want on your own schedule. We drove to Soufriere several times to see the beaches and to see the sights. The road between there and Marigot Bay is probably the roughest mountain road of the island, but also quite beautiful in scenery. Of course, the Pitons are absolutely the most stunning part of the entire island is probably what everyone comes to see. The beach between them "Sugar Beach" is a great place to go and snorkel and enjoy. The snorkeling at Anse Chastanet was absolutely wonderful with a beautiful resort there which we enjoyed lunch as well. We also tried the snorkeling at "Anse Cochan" which was another great area. The most enjoyable part of the trip for myself was once we had traveled to the eastern town of Dennery to do the "Tree Top Zip Lining" which was very exciting, we were told of a waterfall which was just slightly down the road from there off in the woods. It was absolutely the most beautiful waterfall I had seen. I was told they called it "Erin Falls" This is a must see. My wife and I swam in the small pool and stood under the falls for a great while and enjoyed it immensely. Oasis Marigot staff helped us with our sailing tour which we took on Tuesday down to Soufriere which was great. We met 3 wonderful couples and enjoyed their company not only on the sailing trip but also later as we spent time with some of them at dinner and seeing the sights. The "Funicular" which rides you from the base of the resort to the upper level units is quite a device which helps tremendously in getting your belongings and yourself up and down the steep hill. Others have wrote that it didn't work at times, however it worked great the entire week we were there. The villas are quite comfy and I recommend you get one with air in the bedroom for the additional cost. We didn't have trouble with bugs as others have mentioned. I did enjoy the birds in the morning as they do try to steal away any breakfast scraps you leave them or give them. I thought it as cool. We also traveled to Rodney Bay and that was exciting. My wife wanted to try her luck in the casino and she won money so that was good. We didn't however like to travel in the car at night as the roads are really mountainous so we stuck to day time driving only. All the restaurants in the Marigot bay were of fairly good quality as well as somewhat expensive. They say this is the slow season and sometimes there are only 2-4 other couples sitting in the restaurants during the evening hours. I definitely would come back to Oasis Marigot to see the island again and enjoy their facility. The pools are quite enjoyable also, not large but good for an evening swim before dinner after venturing out and about for the day. Really great time here and the bay is beautiful to wake up in the morning and see all the sailboats and motor boats coming and going. Go for it!!

Room Tip: Any room but #9.

We stayed in the Caribbean Blue Suite which is at the very top of the hill on the south side of the bay. We'd recommend it to anyone, providing they don't mind being a little bit out of town (but the amazing view and privacy more than compensates!)

The apartment itself is nice and consists of a bedroom with air con and bathroom with big shower at the back (which is a separately secure and lockable area) and the open kitchen/sofa area at the front, which looks out on to the little pool and amazing view. The manager gave us a local mobile phone with $20 credit which was useful for calling restaurants, cabs, guest services etc.

Oasis Marigot organised our cab pick up on arrival, and we organised a return trip with the same guy which was all very easy. Oasis Marigot also offer the option for food provisioning, where you complete a shopping order in advance and it is in your fridge on arrival. We'd recommend doing this as the local little supermarket in Marigot bay itself (the Marigourmet) is limited and expensive. The lady who does the shop lives just down the road so you just pay her when you arrive.

The best thing about the place is the little pool and the amazing view over the Caribbean; also the complete privacy. The Suite is part of the Great House which is rented separately. The two are completely private with different entrances. The good thing was that if there are no guests in the Great House, they leave the door between them open so you can enjoy their terrace, pool and view too. This was great as the Great House looks down into Marigot Bay itself whereas Carribbean Blue looks out to the Caribbean Sea.

A couple of things which may be helpful to know in advance. Firstly, there are a LOT of mosquitos - worst place I've ever been for them. We were both badly bitten despite using mosquito net provided on bed, inspect repellant, long trousers in evening etc. Secondly, the property is at the top of a very steep hill with a badly maintained road. The village/marina is at the bottom. It takes a good ten minutes to walk up or down but is ok if you are reasonably fit, although not great in midday heat. Or you can get a taxi; a cab up is St Lucia $30, about GBP£7.50/USD $10 (expensive for the distance but St Lucia is generally pricey). We were advised it is safe to walk up/down during day but to get cab at night. One night at about 9.45pm there was no cab in village & on calling for one we were told there were none available, so ended up walking up in dark. We were fine but the road is badly lit & wooded in places, so not the nicest journey - I'd advise always booking cab home in advance if a concern.

The people due to stay at Great House day we arrived only stayed one night as they were apparently unhappy with how far out of the village the property was and the steep hill, so it's better to know about it in advance. That said, if you are reasonably fit or don't mind paying for cabs, we thought the benefit of the amazing view was well worth it! Their loss was our gain, as we got to use their pool and terrace for the rest of our stay.

In the village itself, the property is on the hill at the south side of the bay. There is no walkable road or path around the bay so if you want to go to the other side, you have to pay to use ferry (USD $2 per person return). On the Carribbean Blue side is the little supermarket, the marina village (gift shop or two, bakery/cafe, harbour office, restaurant called Chateau Mygo (nice enough, right on water) and a hotel with a posher looking restaurant and a separate bar called The Hurricane Hole which we liked (good cocktails and also does decent food including good pizzas). On the north side is the little spit of a beach, some beach kiosks, Doolittles restaurant (okay - standard tourist fayre) and the Oasis Marigot guest services. There is also a restaurant called The Rainforest Hideaway on the north side, but to get there you have to get its special little free ferry as it is further down the waterfront with its own jetty. The food there was excellent and we'd definitely recommend it for a special meal.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR ROMANTIC LOCATION REVIEW! This is a very informative report for our future guests and it is not surprising that you are getting so many helpful votes for your feedback on Tripadvisor. Please allow me to correct one point: The Caribbean Blue is adjacent to what we call the Emerald Hill Villa, not the Great House. So we understand that all the references to the Great House in your text are related to the Emerald Hill Villa, the property next door but for 4 people.
We are sorry to learn that you were annoyed by the mosquitoes in the evening. Unfortunately, your stay came after a rainy period that produced them. It is comforting to know they cannot survive with the cold air of the AC unit in the bedroom. In addition to this we also have netting over the bed at the Caribbean Blue Suite. We truly appreciate that overall you gave us a 5-star appreciation for your vacation. We look forward to welcome you again.
