“Strange place, nice setting”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 16, 2013

This odd collection of concrete silos has a pleasant setting in a wooded area outside town. The rooms felt odd at night because of all the glass panes on the inside: slatted wood blinds on the outside provided privacy, but in the dark, you can't see them, so it always feels as though folks outside can see you through the many windows. The system of light switches was confusing, and some seemed not to work. Food quality and selection in the restaurant were mediocre; for breakfast, the only option for eggs was to stand in the (often long) fry-cook line, where a tip is expected. The walk from your silo/room to the restaurant can be a long one. I would stay here as a stopover, not a destination.

Room Tip: Some units are a long way from the restaurant.

We stayed here as part of a tour group of 5 people on a Kuoni Secrets of Cuba Tour. We along with our guide, driver and a German couple where the only people staying in the resort for 2 nights.
Grounds are beautiful. Accommodation is in both single storey and double storey rounded thatched roof huts. The thatch is for decoration and not the main waterproofing. Our rooms were comfortable and clean with an attentive room maid. There is a lot of Frogs, Lizards etc around but by keeping the windows shut we had no uninvited visitors.
Service in the restuarant and pool area was non exsistent. 6 staff sat round the bar area chatting and it was very inconvenient for them to break off their chat to serve us a drink. The bar shuts at 11.00 pm prompt so the 5 of us had to depart.
The breakfast choice was egg, ham sandwich or cheese sandwich. I asked for a cheese and tomato sandwich. No tomatoes! yes you have they were on display last night! The tomatoes are in the store. Well open the store. The keys are at reception. Well go to reception and get the keys. He never did go to reception but I ended up with a cheese and tomato sandwich. A miracle had been performed
Similar thing with drinks when one of our group asked for a Rum & coke with their dinner. They had no Rum!! Strange we had just been drinking Rum & Coke before we went to dinner. Another miracle, rum appeared from no where

Room Tip: Ask for Room 101 or 102 near enough to every thing

Santa Clara is a small town in central Cuba, famous for being closely associated with the iconic Che Guevara. La Granjita is located in a picturesque forest-like campus. Little two-storey huts are dotted around the resort. Although it rained for a few days, it was enjoyable. The rooms are modestly furnished, clean and tidy. So too were the bathrooms. The staff was helpful too.

We had some old friends in Santa Clara going back many years so we arranged a buffet dinner at the main restaurant. The food and variety were superb and considering La Granjita is a state-run resort (Cubanacan), we were certainly impressed.

Certainly recommended, if you are staying at Santa Clara.

This is a horrible place. Unfriendly people. Disco untill 4 pm. Bad food. Mice in the rooms. Rooms not cleaned.
Need I to go on?

Santa Clara itself has only the statue of Che, which is....hmmm not so exiciting

This was a one-night stop-over on the way to Varadero. We saw one sign for it on the way in to Santa Clara but then got lost and had to get directions. It is not in the centre of the town as we had thought but on the way to the airport and close to the ring road. There was a very nice reception area but unfortunately they had no record of our booking. Luckily we had a printed copy of the booking from the travel agent and the hotel had room for us so it was no big problem. We then were taken over a footbridge to circular two storey buildings which fitted in really well with the grounds and looked very attractive. We were in the bottom apartment and thought it was very well kitted out with shutters for privacy. There was a small pool and snack bar beside the reception and a lovely restaurant around the corner. Flies were a big problem around the pool but not in the restaurant where the choice of food was good and staff very attentive. There was live music at the pool later in the evening.

We stayed only 1 night but it was raining so we couldn't enjoy the swimming pool.

We went to Santa Clara, had a good sleep and great breakfast.

I just returned from Santa Clara today having stayed at La Granjita. I took a group of 22 people on a missions trip and the entire team stayed here. We were well received. The rooms were clean. The pool was nice. It is a quiet atmosphere and a great place if you need a night en route. Thanks to Alex the reception manager who tried to accommodate our group's every need. Thanks La Granjita for making our missions trip a success!
