When you need a place to stray, long or short, in Calabar there is ample choice (more then 13) , but not ample places where you will be happy to stay at a price /value ratio that is decent. This mid size appartment hotel has a good atmosphere, wifi, great food (best pizza in Calabar, but a real one, when Victoria is around) and best bread ( they have the biggest bakery in Calabar, and wonderfull bread, brown and white, Danish & many other types, twice daily fresh. They owner is usally around too, and is a great Oga !
The hotel gives personal attention and has rooms, that are large with everything you need, a bit European, as a lot comes from Ikea. Aircon, CNN & sky channel, International sports, and wireless all work and generator also always ready. There are good rates also for longer stay and security is good ; many Europeans also from the Oil industry, and other wanting to escape the hassle and danger of Port Harcourt, stay here too.
Restaurant is very good too, but as all is made fresh on the spot, it takes time, so you need to order well in advance. Also 'off menu' ( Ekang Nkwukwo with Periwinkels and Edi Kang Ikong with shrimps is my favorite and I am not at all Nigerian) is usually very possible, when advised in advance.
I have tried the expensive Channel Vieuw, Mirage, Tinapa Lakerside Hotel ( worst), Metropolitan ( also after renovation and with 5 ( !!) expartiate libanese in management) Axari, Mirage, but this is really the nicest place to stay. I have ben here on a nealrly monthly basis for teh last 5 years.
They have since about 2 years a second hotel, right on MCC, good too, but the initial one is better and more pleasant, Off MCC.
