“Good food, bad ambiance”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 26, 2012

My husband and I ventured down to Coba one evening and were unimpressed with the Viceroy in general. Coba itself was beautiful and had an awesome view looking right out into the ocean, but we couldn't enjoy our dinner because all we could hear was the club music being played across the way at their Sunset Lounge. It was hard to enjoy a nice meal with a gorgeous view while hearing music that made me feel as if I were hanging out at a club with loud dance music. The food was actually really good. We had a salad, a salmon dish, a mahi mahi dish, and a dessert. The food was pricy for a small quantity, which was not the case everywhere on the island, so that was also disappointing. I would not recommend this restaurant if you want a relaxing romantic dinner with an ocean view. If we didn’t hear the music from the Sunset Lounge, the restaurant would have received a higher rating.

Thank you for your review. As we've stated in several responses, there have been many changes at Viceroy - all of which have been made to improve the guest experience. A DJ mixes tranquil European and reggae-tinged at Sunset Lounge, which provides a great atmosphere and also ensures a tranquil dining experience at Coba. The food is still great, and the ambiance is, too!

“A Mixed Review”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 31, 2012

We went twice while staying at the Viceroy. The first time I had the calamari salad with squid ink and polenta, which was quite good. The appetizer was a good size and the calamari was very tender. I ordered it again on our second visit because I liked it so much. The second time around it was much smaller and the calamari was a bit rubbery. Pasta dishes were just okay. My husband had the wagu beef, which he claims was the best meal he had while in Anguilla for almost two weeks. With a few hits and a few misses, I have to say this place is average for Anguilla (with all of its great casual restaurants). If you go, call ahead for reservations even in low season - but mostly to make sure you get a table right by the water. For Anguilla, this place is a bit on the fancier side.

Coba is Viceroy Anguilla's signature restaurant. Since your visit, it has become a fine dining steakhouse serving prime meats and seafood. You'll find that the new Coba consistently serves delicious and seasonal meals!

“A Wonderful Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 14, 2012

From the time you first enter the restaurant, you see beauty all around you. We were then taken to our table in the dining room....facing the water......you see relatively large fish jumping in the lit ocean. Calming to the soul & pleasureable to the eyes.
The sommalier, Albert, is wonderful. The service from Chesney is ALWAYS excellent along with the rest of the waitstaff. The best I've seen on the Island.

As for dinner, the restaurant has an Italian flair with continental & Caribbean flavors. Unique and inviting. Presentation is lovely. Dishes that were favorites: Tomato & mozerella salad, Gaspacho ( a little spicy.....request less spice if you like. But is chock full of delicious veggies).
Entrees linguine Vongole, Fettucine Bolognese, Osso Buco, Crayfish (specially requested & was not on the menu.....ask a day in advance.....so worth it)., Chicken Paillard.
Deserts, a little ice cream to tell you that dinner is over completes your 5 star meal.
DO NOT MISS!! A SURE HIT!!!!

Beauty is everywhere in Anguilla! Coba's design maximizes our guest's view of the gorgeous blue waters. No matter how long it's been since any of our guests' stay - whether a year or a month, one thing is certain - Coba's views are amazing and it's cuisine is, too!

“Worse food I have ever eaten”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 25, 2012

We have just arrived to the hotel, and it was a Sunday, unfortunately for us we had not rented a car yet, and were tired, so we decoded to eat in the hotel.
Out of four restaurants in the hotel only one was open. How do you close all but one restaurant in a hotel? And how do you leave the most spcialized, (only Italian food) of them all the one you choose to leave open?
If that wasnt enjoying enough, the food was awful!
Some of the consistently worse food I have ever lead.
Everyone's dish was disgustingly bad.
Even the stale bread sticks and awful olive bread that was .served when we sat down was bad.
And did I forget to say that the price for this tree ruble food was ridiculous!
24 dollars for 2 fish croquets, that were barely edible.
Apps in the 20's and mains in the 40's, now if it tasted good you would say okay this is expensive but well so delicous, bot to pay that price for food that taste so bad is a crime.
Do yourself a favor and go out even if you are tired.

Thank you for your review. All feedback, both positive and negative, helps us to continually improve our service and address any problem areas. As our signature restaurant, Coba is known around the island for its outstanding Italian cuisine. We are very sorry that you did not enjoy your meal and will make sure to address this with the staff.

“Beautiful Setting, Great Food & Service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 16, 2012

This was our second time to Coba, and we weren't disappointed. It's a gorgeous setting to take advantage of sunset, and, when the sun goes down lights come on underwater that light up the fish swimming, neat. (Of course you have to be seated at the glass wall on the left side to enjoy this).

As happens in off season menus change, so the Coba menu was not the same as the one online, a bit of a disappointment to me they didn't have the lamb. Coba offers a three course prix-fixe dinner that I think was $59.

We weren't interested in the one appetizer or the one dessert option so we opted to order off the menu. I had roasted red snapper with potatoes and kalamata olives. Hubby had gnocchi with confit duck. We shared an arugula salad with goat cheese, pine nuts and balsamic reduction and for dessert shared a chocolate torte with a coffee cream and roasted banana ice cream - the ice cream was AMAZING. With drinks and including the service charge dinner was $135.

Was it the best meal we had all week? No. Was it the worst meal we had all week? No. But, overall we thought food and service was very good. Coba will stay on our usual rotation.
