A most beautiful, exclusive, well run resort. The decor and feel is understated elegance, not flashy and new. Our family with kids from 17-24 found it relaxing yet fun. The beach is private and impeccably maintained. The food at the resort is excellent and there are many restaurants on the island that could compete with New York's finest. Every detail was managed from lovely chaises on the beach reserved in our name to fresh fruit and sorbet and icy towels brought right to our beach chair. The water is clear and if you book a higher number villa you get a view of the St. Maartin mountains - breathtaking. Go in lower season to get good rates and be sure to book your water taxi early. Expect to wait at the dock which is right across from the airport - you can walk it. Taxis are expensive and charge per person, not per ride - car rentals are reasonable.

My fiancé and I stayed at Cap Juluca in May 2009 and had a wonderful time, except for the wind. I am not sure if we caught a bad week or if it is always windy, but the week we stayed, the beach was uncomfortably windy, although sunny, each day. We are struggling with our decision to return this year due to the wind and would appreciate comments from others who visited to determine if we simply caught a bad week.

We were very pleased with the service, the accommodations and the restaurants. The fitness room was a definite plus, and transporting yourself around the complex in solar carts was definitely fun. Other than the disappointing wind, each day, the beach is awesome and the service is wonderful. Padded chairs, personal playmate type coolers with water, periodic snacks and tea each day at 4pm– very nice.

However, the pool kind of stunk – my in-ground resort style pool, spa and patio at home is nicer than the pool at Cap Juluca - seriously!! The accommodations, while not 5 star, were certainly comfortable and acceptable. We also appreciated the villa style as opposed to hotel style. The mosquitoes were not an issue, but we used the netting each night, just in case – not terrible. Having a room literally on the beach is pretty awesome – walk out the door and you are on the beach. The sound of the ocean is also soothing at night when falling asleep.

The food was very good. We ate at Pimms twice and the restaurant on the beach. The other nights we went outside the resort and selected excellent restaurants, I just cannot recall their names since it was last May. If we visit again, we will rent a car as cab fare is ridiculously expensive.

Getting to Anguilla is a nuisance, but not terrible – we stayed in Dutch St. Maarten for a few nights first, then took the boat from French St. Maarten (Marigot) to Anguilla. Cap J has its own boat, but we were not offered a ride, probably because we were in the low end room. However, on the way back, we discovered a boat that takes you direct to the St. Maarten airport as opposed to Marigot – a little more expensive but worth the convenience.

Assuming we caught a bad weather week and the uncomfortable wind was the exception, I would certainly recommend a visit to Cap J, especially for couples – a great resort for couples.

We have been to the Caribben many times sailing. This the first time we stayed on land the entire trip. Cap Juluca is a wonderful place to relax and forget about your worries. The location is quiet and the resort beautiful. The service is outstanding with some minor inconsistancies. But the inconsistancies are better than most resorts' services. The Beach Service was spectacular. I bit of advice....spend some time off the resort and explore the island. The dining experiences are fabulous. The people are friendly and it is very safe.

We took a Boat Charter to go snorkeling. The staff was great but the waters were murkey. We stopped at Cicili Cay (sp?) for lunch. Overpriced but a great experience. Be prepared to de-bone your fish while you eat.

My wife and I just returned from a five day stay at Cap Juluca. And it certainly lived up to its reputation as the jewel of the caribbean. Once we pulled up in front of the main hall we were greeted on a first name basis as if we were family. Check in was a breeze and then we were driven via golf cart to our villa. We were in Villa five on the top floor. Our room was decorated in the old colonial style with a spectacular view of the beach from our balcony. It has a large plasma TV, and marble bathroom,. We also had a solarium upstarirs for private sunbathing.

But the big attraction was the beach. It is breathtaking. Even though we are "pool" people usually, one look at the beach and we were done. Each morning we would arrive, be met by a beach attendant who would direct us to our "spot" and ready our chairs with towels, umbrella, and bottled water. They brought frozen friut at 11am, sorbet at 3pm, and cookies at 4pm. Heaven!! Our exercise during the day consisted of walking from one end of the beacjh to the other. It has to be one of the prettiest beaches in all of the caribbean.
The staff was attentive and everyone knew your name by the first day. Continental breakfast was served on your patio each day overlooking the ocean. Maid service was twice a day, and the room had a fully stocked complimentary fridge. Bug spray and netting was available although it was not an issue during our stay.
The food at lunch at Blue was good, and we had a great meal at Pimms at night on the water where we saw stingrays and barracuda swim by as we ate.
Overall, if one is looking for a relaxing, romantic getaway with understated elegance, this is the place. We can't wait to go back!

Our stay at Cap Juluca started off a little shaky. Although we arrived after 2pm, we had to wait 2 hours for our room to be ready. The staff was very appologetic and offered us a free meal at Blue while we were waiting for our room. We took advantage of their offer but woul really have preferred to get to our room and onto the beach. However, once we were settled in our room, everything was perfect. Although I have stayed in more luxurious rooms at other resorts, I still thought that our room was very nice and the view from our room was gorgeous. The bed was really comfortable I had the best nights sleep there that I had had in years. Every morning our breakfast arrived promptly and I loved eating it on our balcony while looking at that incredible view.

The beach at Cap Juluca is probably the most beautiful beach I have ever seen and the beach service was excellent. I especially loved the frozen fruit on a stick in the morning and the sorbet in the afternoon that were brought to us on the beach. The beach chairs were very comfortable and I had no trouble falling asleep in them.

The staff at the hotel were all very friendly and helpful. Also, except for the day of our arrival, our room was always cleaned promptly.

If a pool is important to you, then you should stay somewhere else. All we wanted to do was relax on a beautiful beach, so Cap Juluca was perfect for us. The only criticism I have is that we were disappointed with the food at Pimms. The service and the ambiance were great there but, except for the delicious chocolate souffle, we thought the food could have been much better.

Overall, we thought that Cap Juluca was the most relaxing vacation we ever had and are planning to go back again in Dec. 2010.

The hotel has simply lossed its style and it is unfortunate.......I passed the hotel last year after it had just completed its renovation........the lobby, bar etc...had just been completed......it was quite stylish and was memorable.........however, the lobby is now decorated differently (only one year later)......it is now quite ordinary and generic....no impact at all........the beach remains quite beautiful, but the chaise etc....already look worn......also, at the end of the beach beyond the green planting is what appears to be piles of items that should be discarded......it is not pleasant to see areas that are not well maintained......I noticed this throughout the grounds......paths that are not swept and therefore look dirty........items such as old wood or a cup or a straw left in the gardens, especially opposite the villas..it simply seems not cared for when items are left around.....the road in front of the villas is crumbling.....the service road with trucks etc....is clearly visible and quite unattractive.....the tennis courts are not well maintained at all..........the restaurant "blue', which was so stylish last year is now just basic......it looks worn........new colors on cushions and back pillows take away from what was simple clean beauty.....the 'blue' floor has not been maintained at all.......the swimming pool at the hotel is completely pointless....the chairs are not set up....it is also not maintained and is in the most ridiculous location....I can't imagine using it as the location is dreary, sort of squeezed in a back area behind the restaurant 'Blue'.....I understand that the beach is the attraction, but if a pool is going to exist, it should be maintained and styled beautifully so that every view of the hotel offers something visually memorable and beautiful.......overall it just seems to have lossed all that was stylish.....

We arrived at Cap Juluca wondering what was new as we had missed last year. When we walked in the lobby all we could say was wow! The new lobby and bar is amazing. We were brought into a reception room where we were greeted by name and given amazing Rum Punches while we waited for them to get our reservation. This does not happen often - but we requested a specific room and got it. Villa 5 room 5. It has a roof top solarium- much better than the bathroom solariums. Our friends had just checked out of Villa 5 - Room 5 so I called the day before and requested it knowing that it might be available.

We got to our room and were again blown away by the magnificent view. We heard a knock on the door and a nice man entered with 2 bottles of chilled champagne, chocolates, and iced lemon water and a personalized note form the management welcoming us back. It was a nice touch. The fridge was full and a bottle a Pyrat Rum was waiting for us a s well. That was gone by the 3rd day.

We called housekeeping for extra towels and pillows and they were there within 5 minutes. We got into our suits and went right to the beach. The water was like a sheet of glass and we took a floatie and lounged in the water for 15 minutes. When we got out Shirley - our beach attendant for that day was waiting for us with freshly made -up lounge chairs that are so comfy and new that you just don't want to leave the beach. Dinner at Pimms was beautiful and wonderful- we were greeted by Wilma the warmest woman you would ever want to meet. After dinner - we walked on the beach and went up to the roof for some stars and Rum - what a perfect first day.

The following 4 days were pure bliss. Blue for lunch was better than ever and one day I even had lunch delivered to my chair on the beach. The frozen rum drinks were great as were the nice new touches, a cooler filled with water bottles that are replenished though-out the day, in late morning you also get frozen fruit on a stick, then later chilled wet washcloths for your face and in the afternoon- sorbet and cookies - all right to your beach chair- it makes you not want to leave the bliss of CJ's Maundays Bay. If you go on the Anguilla forum you can see my total trip report with restaurants and day to day activities. It is in 2 parts. Gary the new manager was so sweet as were al the regulars we know from before- Fiona, Shirley, Veneta, Gene, Myron, Mervin, Sheila and everyone the the office - concierge and shops.

Can't wait to return. Email me if you have any questions.

Gigi
