This is a great resort if you want a beach location. Cap Juluca takes up all of Maunday's Bay. The beach is excellent with powder white sand and clear blue water. Even though every beach in Anguilla is public it was evident that only those staying at Cap Juluca were on the beach. Every room is right on the beach with a wondeful view. You have probably read that the rooms are not up to par for such an expensive resort. Well, the rooms are not the best. Trust me, you do not go to Cap Juluca for the rooms. The location, the beach and service are what you are paying for. The waves of the caribean will lull you to sleep and there is an awesome sunrise view from the moment you open your eyes in the morning. If you are concerned over the dated room you are paying attention to the wrong things at this fabulous resort. Relax! All of the rooms will be renovated shortly. I hope they do not replace all the shutter doors with glass doors as the rooms will lose the sound of the waves and the breeze coming in from the ocean.
Having breakfast served on your terrace overlooking the ocean is superb! The service at Cap Juluca is typified by Albert and Lester. Albert was our Villa Manager and made sure everything about our room was in order, which it was. Lester provided spirited service for our dinner on the beach. No one could be more proud of his island the resort he worked for than Lester.

The restaraunts at Cap Juluca are pricey but so are most of the others on the island. Smokey's on the cove is a great place for lunch. If you like to walk, Smokey's is just on the other end of Cove Bay beach adjacent to Cap Juluca. Koal Keal, coincidently having the same owners as Smokey's on the Cove, was our favorite place for dinner. If you are into wine, Koal Key has a great selection. Ask if you can go down to the cellar. Veya is a great spot to get a quick sandwhich or salad for lunch. Would have liked to try it for dinner. Had a great meal at Barrel Stay with very friendly service. Blanchard's was OK. Straw Hat was very disappointing, mostly because of the poor setting. If you want to hang with the locals go to Johnno's in Sandy Ground for Jazz on Sunday afternoons along with some pretty good whole red snapper. If you want a flavor of Sandy Ground beach life go Sammy's Barbeque Beach bar a few buildings over for some good ribs and a Heineken for a very reasonable price.

We saw a few other resorts on the island. Quisinart semed like a nice hotel but the beach does not compare. Not even close. Other resorts are a lot less expensive but you will get what you pay for. Anguilla is a great island. If you want a premium resort on the beach and do not mind paying for it, Cap Juluca is the place. If you are looking for something else, those options are also available on the island.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your recent stay at Cap Juluca. We value feedback from all our guests as it provides us with valuable information to enhance the Cap Juluca experience.

We are thrilled that you consider Cap Juluca to be the best beach resort and that you enjoyed your stay with us.

With regard to your comment concerning the shutter doors, as part of our renovation programme we intend to install doors with the capability of being used as open air, screens, wooden louvre or glass. The glass option will allow guests to have full view of our beautiful beach from the room while relaxing in the comfort of the air conditioning. Guests will also be able to customize how the doors function to create a more peronalised setting to the rooms thereby adding to their comfort.

Should you have any other comments or suggestions please feel free to contact me directly.

Most sincerely,

True. The website almost sets you up for a disappointment because the photos are so unbelievably beautiful. But fear not...it is better in person. Total unspoiled splendor on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Breathtaking. The staff goes out of their way to welcome you. The rooms provide a wakeup view like something from a James Bond movie. Morning breakfast delivered to your outdoor patio table overlooking the ocean. Beachside cocktails, and coolers filled with bottled water. Quiet, private, and classy.

A few tips to avoid some of the negative reviews you will read:

1. Avoid a room with the air conditioner above the bed. We had one and just too much volume in the middle of night. I requested a change and got an immediate upgrade to fabulous room. Problem solved.

2. Cap Juluca can be wonderfully secuded, but for us, a bit boring for 7 full days. Rent a car and get out among the people. Soooooo much fun. Go explore. Can't get lost on this small island. Stop and shop and eat and drink and start all over again. We went places no tourist ever goes to. Find them yourself.

3. Have your cab driver stop at the grocery store on your way into the Cap. There is one just past the resort....on the left side. Fortify your room with adult beverages, beer, and wine. Cocktails are expensive at the Cap. We always had cold beers and rum on hand.

4. Go to Shoal Bay East. Spend the day there. Eat and drink at the little beach side cafes. Sit on the the third best beach in the WORLD. We spent a great deal of time there and say maybe 12 people the entire time. Probably going to stay there for our next visit. Just a cool vibe and the ocean is a bit more relaxed in this small cove.

5. The Cap restaurants were fun. Not great....but what the heck. They are right there.
Low hassle. Views make up for everything. We had a blast.

6. Skip the ferry to St. Martin. What a waste of time. We kissed the Anguilla ground when we returned. Smelly, hot, touristy, and a waste of time and money. Stay on the paradise island of Anguilla.

7. If you cannot kick back here, have fun, chill, and relax then stay home. You won't be able to do it anywhere. The anethesiologist who sent in the whining review about Cap Juluca needs to medicate himself. Maybe some oxycodone or just a rag full of ether?

This was our second stay ay C.J. and the recent renovations to the public spaces and improved beach facilities and service are a major enhancement to the overall experience. We stayed 10 days and as always the beach is fantastic with the off season benefit of being practically deserted. The weather was perfect with the only noticeable "off season" draw backs of increased bugginess and limited restaurants open during September. The staff was lovely and helpful. In particular, Cardi, who runs the "Beach Fitness" class each morning is a delight and inspiring. Make yourself go and you won't regret it. If you are sore afterwards, don't worry--he gives great massages!. Our only real criticisims, as they were after our first visit, were the overall dining options. We don't tend to be "fancy eaters" when we holiday in the Carribean. It is not about cost, it is more about simplicity. C.J. has a restaurant called Blue on one of the most beautiful beaches in Anguilla, but it only serves breakfast and lunch. Blue's weekly dinner buffet was not in operation during our stay. Blue should be a casual dinner option at night. Pimms is the flagship "haute cuisine" option, but Spices' menu and format needs reworking--possibly a bar/bistro. We went off campus most nights in search of a more casual option, and Smokeys was excellent for this, and close by. As has been written before, the rooms are a bit tired, but that is in the process of being rectified, in stages, with renovation. A couple of minor service calls were answered promptly. Internet access was a breeze in the new beautiful twin libraries that are stocked with an impressive selection of books and movies. All in all, C.J. is a jewel and only getting better.

My wife and I just returned from a five-night stay at Cap Juluca – just a romantic getaway sans our two children. We did extensive research on our options and decided on Cap based on online reviews as well as our travel agent who had been there, herself. I really have mixed feelings about the resort and our stay there. It should easily merit a 5/5 merely based on its natural beauty but, unfortunately, poor service was a major issue for us there. Please feel free to read my other reviews to see that I generally am not an overly picky reviewer and much of what we felt was confirmed with other guests we met on our trip.

The trip there was uneventful. We took the public ferry from St. Martin, which I would not recommend because you have to take a 20 min. taxi ride to the St. Martin ferry terminal and the ferry itself was hot and slow. We also were the only non-natives on the boat, which was somewhat uncomfortable feeling. On the way home we took Funtime which was well worth the extra money. They also drop you off right at the airport so no need for a taxi on the St. Martin side. It was also a much faster ride in a more comfortable boat. On Anguilla we were met by a Cap representative who, while nice, didn’t seem to do much except direct us to our taxi. It would have been nice if the resort would have driven us in the resort van she was using rather than having us take another taxi.

When we arrived at the resort, we were somewhat flummoxed that there was no one there to greet us. The taxi driver seemed perplexed as well. He put our bags down on the steps to the lobby and we were left to wander around to find the check-in area. No cool towels, no cold drink. When we found the check-in area, we were beckoned to sit down in front of the representative (picture applying for a mortgage at your local bank…) where she led us through the check-in process. She was very businesslike but not really warm or friendly. This distant, somewhat cold attitude towards the guests seemed to be endemic among many of the employees we encountered throughout our stay. You almost got the impression that they wished you weren’t there. However, there were some outstanding, very friendly employees as well. Unfortunately, it only takes one or two bad ones to spoil the overall experience. After beginning the check-in process, we were offered a complimentary drink- which tasted great! – and then led to our room. No tour of the facilities was offered. I had read where many customers had received complimentary upgrades but we were not offered any even though the resort couldn’t have been more than 1/5 full based on what we observed while we were there. It seems like it would have been a good way to build goodwill to the few people staying there to upgrade as many as possible one level if those rooms were available. Turns out they were because after I asked if there was any chance for an upgrade, they did get us into a junior suite from a luxury room. While we were very appreciative of this, there was actually not a ton of difference between the two. I wouldn’t recommend paying the extra to book the junior suite from the luxury or even deluxe rooms. The only thing we noticed was that the bathroom was a little bigger. Everyone who has researched Cap knows the rooms are dated. They are but it didn’t bother me much even though I thought it would. The room was very clean and A/C was comfortable and easy to adjust. All common areas and restaurants have been renovated and look great. BTW, We went on a hard hat tour of the first villa undergoing renovations and it looked great.

The resort is absolutely beautiful and the beach is pristine. I can’t imagine a better locale for just doing nothing and really relaxing. The common grounds are well-manicured, especially around the main building and restaurants. The weather was perfect the whole time we were there and we really enjoyed the water sports that were offered. We went waterskiing, took out sunfish and hobie cats as well as windsurfed. All were complimentary. The beach chaise loungers are all new and first-class. The beach attendants bring you towels and a cooler of ice and bottled water when you get to the beach. Some of them re-filled the cooler during the day, others just sat in their bar area waiting for you to come to them for what you needed. You can order lunch from your chaise and that was really nice. We went on a sunset cruise our second night and it was a highlight. Good chance to meet other guests and get to know a lot more about the island. Our hosts, Elvis and Wilson were definitely some of the more outstanding employees we encountered at the resort – Extremely friendly and fun.

The in-room complimentary breakfasts were another highlight. It is really a nice luxury to have a private breakfast on your veranda each morning while looking out over such a beautiful beach. My wife took part each morning in the complimentary exercise class run by Cardigan – another outstanding employee – and really enjoyed starting her day that way.

We ate at both Pimms and Spice and enjoyed both. We each had an outstanding meal one night and just a fair meal the other at each of these. They were each opened on alternate nights during our mid-Sept. stay. Yes, they are pricey for what you get, but no more so than a nice restaurant in a large US city. Service was professional but a little slow. We didn’t mind the slowness since we had nothing to do but just relax and were in no real hurry.

One night we went off-resort to Veya. I would definitely recommend going there one night. It was actually as much or more expensive than Pimms and you had to take a taxi which added another $60.00, but the food and service were both outstanding and well worth it.

The last thing I would comment on is the fact that this resort does allow children. We purposely didn’t go to certain places (Regent Palms, on Turks and Caicos) because of all the reviews complaining about kids running around. We thought we would have a more adult environment at Cap – especially in mid-Sept after school started. I think we did, but there were still a few kids there. Including, of course, next door to us one night... It really is beyond me why they would risk alienating the 95% of their clients who seemed to be couples by allowing children at this resort. It only takes one crying baby at dinner to ruin a romantic meal for someone on their honeymoon or other getaway.

Would I recommend Cap or go back myself? The answer is: I guess, but with a number of reservations and only based on the beauty of the resort and beach. Management needs to get their service to a higher plane before they can even begin to approach a five-star level.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your recent stay at Cap Juluca. We value feedback from all our guests as it provides us with valuable information to enhance the Cap Juluca experience.

The majority of our guests is and traditionally has been couples. We have an open policy for families; however, children are generally only on property during the holidays.

With regard to your suggestion that a resort vehicle be used to transport guests from the ports rather than using taxis, it is against regulations laid down by the Government of Anguilla for any resort or hotel to provide transportation for guests as it detracts business from the local taxis and hire companies.

We apologize that no greeter was at the Main Entrance to welcome you to Cap Juluca and assure you this is not the norm. It is our policy to have all our guests personally welcomed upon arrival and we will be following up on this incident. Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention.

Upgrades are part of various packages that we offer. We also have arrangements with several travel partners where upgrades are given subject to availability. Of course if requested by other guests and available we will be happy to provide.

We are always delighted to welcome repeat guests however we are saddened we did not meet your expectations in the area of service. Should you have any other comments or suggestions please feel free to contact me directly.

I have not participated much in this forum. Being a meeting planner some of the reviews are obviously amateur and most likely written by competing hotels. However, after reading the review by TSMIM on Sept 14th I needed to write in and would like to assure anybody going to Cap Juluca that their review is simply rubbish.

I spent 5 nights with my wife in July and we chose to come back to this beautiful location, after having spent four nights on our honeymoon 12 years ago. Cap Juluca proved to be one of the most romantic, tranquil hotels we have ever stayed at. We have been fortunate enough to be able to travel to many of the top destinations including Ritz Carlton's and Four Seasons. Cap Juluca proved to not only meet our expectations again but exceeded them.

The service was IMPECABLE - from the minute we stepped out onto the beach, the beach attendants (many of which are local and are the friendliest people we have ever met!) had set us up with beach charis, towels and a cooler with ice cold waters. Mid morning the beach attendants came back around with fruit kabobs followed only moments later with a ice cold towel. After eating lunch at their beach front restaurant, we headed back to our chairs where we were served lemon sorbet.
(Not to mention when you first check in you are greeting with an ice cold rum punch and cold towel and lead to a beautiful "check in" room.)

For anyone who has stayed at this beautiful hotel, knows the rooms are set up along a stretch of one of the most beautiful white sand beaches. You can make your vacation as private as you want, sunning on your private balcony / patio or coming out to the QUIET beach and listening to the turquise water lap against the sand.
As far as children, the two times we have been at this hotel, we have only seen one or two at the most. This is not to say that your children would not have a good time as well, with water sports available to all.

The rooms were beautiful - white walls, bedding and beautiful deep colored wood doors that open up to the views of the beach. The bathrooms are large with a wall of windows that outlook a private sunning deck. The one difference vs. 12 years ago is the addition of a television and phone. Other than that the it was a welcome home to see the rooms we have fallen in love with year still maintained (even with their renovations). That is what this hotel is about - romance and tranquility.

Cap Juluca is a once in a lifetime experience. If you are looking for a relaxing, romantic vacation, Cap Juluca is the place you must visit!!!

I just returned from a trip to Cap Juluca with my girlfriend. We came down from NYC and hopped the sea shuttle to Anguilla. The first difference that we both noted was the attention to detail of the staff from the moment we arrived at SXM until we returned to our flight on Sunday. We were greeted by a Cap Representation with fresh chilled bottle water and cold towels while waiting for our boat ride to Anguilla. We also went out to dinner on the island one night at B&D's BBQ and the staff was so friendly that when they saaw us there, they offered us a ride back to the hotel for free.

The beach on Maundy's bay might have been one of the most breathtaking I've ever seen. The place was incredibly quiet and while there was one little kid, she was very well behaved. Beach is perfect, the staff offers free bottled water chilled fruit and towels throughout the day gratis to make the beach experience even more pleasant, We had a superior room with a great view of the ocean. All amenities in the room were great.

The only complaint is that the food at the resort is a bit pricey for the quality, but when you factor in the view and the friendliness of the staff, you truly get what you pay for; a fantastic place to unwind and do nothing and be incredibly romantic with the person that you love. We will be back.

The only positive comment about Cap Juluca is the fact that it is located on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Our stay was unbelievably disappointing. In an effort to seek out a vacation spot, our first preference was an adults only resort. Cap Juluca claimed to be such a resort. Upon arriving there were small children everywhere. Upon inquiry at the front desk and the Concierge as to why this was so, the response received was that the owner wanted to maximize occupancy during what is a slow economy. Unfair to travelers who are promised something else!
For the 4 nights of our stay, 2 out of the 4 nights had ripped bed sheets with holes in them which is unbelivable for such an expensive resort. Finally, the service was sub par and ridiculpously overpriced. The employees seem unhappy to work there and are not solicitous whatsoever of the clientele. We will never return nor will we ever suggest Cap Juluca as a vacation spot for any of our friends.

The majority of our guests is and traditionally has been couples. We have an open policy for families however children are generally only on-property during the holidays.

With regard to our bed linen, last year we upgraded all of our sheets to 400 thread count Egyptian cotton by Frette. We have been receiving rave reviews about our sheets and coverlets as well as our mosquito nets which were imported from Africa. We pride ourselves on addressing guest issues immediately and would have rectified any negative situation at the time had it been drawn to our attention.

Our employees are very excited about the new direction in which Cap Juluca is heading. We employ 370 employees who have worked for the resort for a combined average of 15 years. They consider this to be their second home which they happily share with our guests. The feedback from new and repeat guests has been better than ever and we are continually enhancing our product.
