“Behemoth”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 18, 2011

We visited for a few hours, so I cannot comment on the quality of hotel rooms or ongoing service/amenities in any way. We were simply curious to see what all the buzz was about.

Overly/highly designed, spectacular structure which totally dominates its setting. Frankly, while stark and beautiful in some ways, it just didn't fit. It gave us the creeps - - - so big and scary and dark. It looked like it would be impossible to find your room at night. We noticed many edgy guests posing at the bar or by the pool in trendy clothing. Hey- if that's your scene, go for it! It is not mine, so I would never ever stay in this hotel on this particular island.

The pools looked very nice, and the workout facilities were state-of-the-art. The guys working in the fitness area are real gems - very accommodating, helpful, and knowledgeable.

The extensive/expensive breakfast buffet was fabulous. Friends of ours ate dinner there, and liked the food in the main dining room.

Every single staff person we met was approachable, friendly, and gracious. Lovely people. But that is Anguilla.

Highly recommended for visitors willing to open their wallets in return for a first-rate experience. Set on the windward side of Anguilla, the Viceroy offers two beaches -- one private, one a beautiful long arc of sand -- and spectacular views. The sound of the sea is always present. The food is superb -- particularly the crayfish. The resort offers no venue for ordinary careless .food. The rooms are vast, with terraces & private marble hot tubs. The people of Anguilla are caring and kind, so every interaction with the huge and capable staff is a pleasure in itself. What's wrong? Well, the architecture, while striking, is too formal for my taste, at least in a Caribbean setting. And it's pricey. But overall a very satisfying experience.

We stayed at the Viceroy in February. The room was unbelievably beautiful. The attention to detail was incredible. From the glass table in the center of the main bathroom to the 5ft driftwood lamps in the living room no expense is spared.
The staff is lovely and someone is always willing to help. The food is excellent and while the service is a bit slow we were on vacation and didn't mind the pace.
Quite the place for a romantic getaway - if you are looking to impress you found it here.
The spa is delightful - a must here!

This Hotel is extremely clean. the premises are well designed/decorated. The bar is spectacular with wonderful views. the pools are nice. We stayed in a one bedroom suite. This room was very nice. It had a small kitchenette with flatware, stemware, stainless steel microwave and frige. our room was on the second floor, so the view was gorgeous...all water..all day. The plunge pool is really a jacuzzi. I wish that the staff cleaned it daily...but they didn't...thats why I gave Cleanliness (4 instead of 5 starts)

We didn't eat there much. The food is typical american fare. Instead we decided to venture out and found a place called Roti Hut. The food is there is good local carribean food (curried meats, stewed meats...vegies and nice rum punches.

This hotel is great for R&R and I loved it. You wont be disappointed

We know many people who love the Caribbean but my wife and I avoided it for many years because we had some disappointing experiences. We decided to try again this year and we were very pleased and impressed. We choice the Viceroy in Anguilla. Simply put, the property is absolutely stunning in every way. Our room, a one bedroom suite overlooking the ocean, was one of the best we have had anywhere in the world. It was very well equipped and we had a great balcony that included a heated plunge pool. We had plenty of room, and it was serviced and cleaned twice a day.

The main bar which is outside by the adult pool offers a spectacular view of the sunset, one of the best we have experienced. Service and management were professional, friendly, and attentive to our needs.

There are 3 pools and 2 distinct and separate beaches. We preferred the adult pool which was quiet and well staffed. The wi-fi was very good and we were connected at all times.

Anguilla is known for its food and we found its reputation to be well deserved. We can recommend Jacala and Veya which are very popular and offer good seafood. We greatly enjoyed Picante which is a Mexican restaurant within walking distance of the Viceroy. Our favorite beach restaurant was Barrel Stay which was very enjoyable and charming (try the conch chowder if it is available). Surprisingly to us, our best dining experience was at Aleta, one of the hotel restaurants. The redfish was superb and the service was excellent.

Travel to Anguilla was no problem. We took a direct flight to St. Maarten, and then a ferry to Anguilla. There are several ferry companies, and I note that our return ferry on Funtime was 35 mins late with no apparent excuse. Also, you must pay $20 US per person on exit from Anguilla. I must also add the people we met on Anguilla were great. They are very friendly and very sincere.

Hotels are forbidden by law from picking you up on arrival which means you must take a taxi. While annoying, its just a cost of going to an island ($22 one way in this case).

This was an excellent vacation and I can highly recommend it to the discerning traveler who wants the Caribbean experience with some of the luxuries and amenities found in the great hotels of the world. I now include the Viceroy Anguilla in that category.

My husband and children (teenagers) just returned from a 4 night stay at The Viceroy in Anguilla. As someone who has traveled extensively around the world I can say that this hotel is absolutely magnificent. We stayed in a gorgeous two bedroom suite (Moray building-room 349) which included a livingroom, full kitchen, two bedrooms, 2 full baths, a powder room, and a huge terrace (equipped with plunge pool, seating area, two person hammock and the most spectacular view of one of the pools and the bay). The restaurants, lounges, public spaces-- all visually arresting. We were looking for a relaxing break in a luxurious environment with great service and The Viceroy truly delivered.

My husband gave me a trip to Anguilla for my birthday this year - our first trip together to the Carribean - and it did not disappoint! We normally vacation in Europe , Napa, etc., but opted for a "chill" and warm holiday this year, after the crazy winter Boston has had!

We had heard a lot of great things about Anguilla and choosing the Viceroy was an easy choice after looking at all of the resort websites. Originally from Texas, I am used to friendly people, but I have never seen so many friendly faces than the Viceroy. The staff was so nice, greeted us wherever we went and regardless of who we asked, they all knew the answer to any question about the hotel or the island. The room was amazing and while it has a very "clean and understated" look and feel, it was one of the most luxurious hotel rooms I have ever seen. There were 3 gorgeous pools - all 3 with fabulous food, drinks and staff and after 4 spa treatments, we have to admit they were the best 4 massages we have ever had! The Sunset Lounge is unequaled in it's view and there is not a more romantic place.

Anguilla was equally amazing and I am pretty sure we have both gained about 100 lbs., since we could not stop eating the fabulous food on the island. Picante, Veya, Straw Hat and Geraud's - to name a few. Additionally, we heard Anguilla is now rated #3 for the best beaches in the world. It is a well deserved honor. We visited about 6-7 of the island's 33 beaches and they were all exquisite. Meads Bay is our personal favorite.

We will definitely be visiting Anguilla again and there is no other hotel to even consider - it is Viceroy.
