We have visited this pub on numerous occasions over a number of years but are not likely to ever return. Previous experience with the food was admittedly variable but on the whole was pretty good for a pub chain. The food this time was truly appalling and tasteless. Dressed crab which was nothing of the sort, tasteless steak and scampi which was of such poor quality that when you bit into it filled your mouth with water. We should have been forewarned when confronted by nasty sticky menu cards on the table (rather than the previous blackboard format). It was like eating in a motorway service station without the rapidity. We left much of our main course which should have been a clue that something was wrong but we were cheerily asked whether we were having a good time. We had already had to complain that our drinks had not arrived (despite the fact that the pub was nearly empty) and were dog tired ( which was why we had popped out for a quick bite to eat rather than cooking in) so we just paid and left. I agree with some of the previous reviews - the pub looks very tired and unkempt. The Prince of Wales is in a prime position overlooking a village pond but that's the only good thing it has going for it. Chef & Brewer would do well to take a trip to the White Hart in Pirbright to see how it should be done.
