Lots of problems with service - told to queue at the bar to get shown to our reserved table, waiter didn't know what bitters were on tap, food came out cold, had to get cutlery from another table twice, similar with salt and pepper, had to actively ask for menus to order desert after waiting ages (ours were on table 1 apparently) at this point one member of staff shouted across saying we had to order them by 10.30 (about 2min away). It was fairly busy to start with but almost empty by the time we finished, it felt like we were generally ignored. Menu has nice variety and it was reasonably priced, the setting is lovely, and the actual pub quite cosy. With good service and warm food it could be great.

The waiters and waitresses went out of their way to make you welcome. Food was good and hot. Out of four nights I went there three.

We stopped in for lunch on Good Friday. It was lovely in the garden but the service was so slow - it took 68 minutes from ordering to receiving our 3 burgers. We'd had to start asking for our money back before the food finally arrived. The server were pleasant and apologetic enough, but that is really just not good enough for pub burgers.

The brewery has clearly spent time, money and thought on refurbishing this pub in recent years, but the fact that there has been several changes of management (since the excellent Nick & Kalla left) seems to indicate that even they don't think they've got it quite right yet. The food is just poor. Okay, not every pub has to be a gastro pub with prices to match, but the food isn't cheap at the Prince of Wales but still tastes like old-fashioned pub food. The service depends very much on who is serving you - some are good and some seem permanently diverted onto secondary tasks and don't seem to notice when a queue has backed up at the bar. The wait for food can be slow even when the place is not full. It all needs another re-think - at management level?

Waited 20 minutes at bar to order food to be told they didn't have what we wanted. Service is incredibly slow and abysmal for both food and drink. Tables are not cleared of glasses and dirty plates. AVOID.
