“A way to make sure your last taste of Italy is great”
Reviewed January 1, 2014

We always spend the last night at the airport before our morning departure to New York from Italy. The only problem with this is that after days of delicious food, our final meal is always mediocre. Not anymore. This restaurant is as good as any we went to during our 10 days around MIlan. It's a family run place (father is the owner, son and daughter are waiters and the mother made our delicious deserts). We came with my sister-in-law who is from Milan and agreed it was as good as her favorites in town. Every single dish was prepared with obvious care and attention and with the very best ingredients. The bread was delicious (the first sign of a good restaurant) and our waiter, the son, was charming and helpful. The owner/father spoke to us as we finished and we left feeling we had discovered a true gem. Then I checked in here and see that others beat me to it. It's reputation is well deserved.

Why stay at a characterless, charmless chain hotel near Malpensa? This charming place is not that far away AND they have a shuttle service if you've already turned in that rental car. Excellent soundproofing hides the fact that it's under the flight path, plus it's in a real town rather than in the middle-of-nowhere like so many other Malpensa "airport" hotels. Add in reasonable rates and a very good ristorante (the name IS Osteria after all) and its hard to justify staying anywhere else. Fully modern interior and good service make this a can't miss for us if we have to be around the airport.

We booked this hotel the day before we were to leave our month long vacation in Italy. We were looking for a place close to Malpensa Airport that we could relax before the beginning of a long plane ride and assumed it would be ok. Oh my gosh, we both thought that if we ever come back we would stay here for at least a few days. The hotel room was in the newly remodeled part of an ancient building, (it had the best shower we had in all of Italy) and the town was lovely. There is a high proportion of horses to people here and the town totally reveres the animal The breakfast was the best we had the entire time we were in Italy. The coffee was wonderful! It was easy to drive to and there was available parking. The hotel is also a family restaurant with a wood fired pizza oven. The evening meal was quite wonderful! There are multiple generations of family members working at the hotel and restaurant and the building is very old and historic with quite the story about the Italian version of "Pony Express" and replacement horses. I highly recommend this stop for anyone looking for a location close to Milan but with a rural atmosphere and wonderful food and people!

Room Tip: In the summer the rooms may be noisier due to outside diners, most of which are locals. WE did not...

The Malpensa Airport is quite a way out of Milan. The Hotel Osteria della Pista is only 7 kilometers away which made get away day really easy. The hotel provided a shuttle which was also great. The hotel is sleek and modern if not a little stark. The restaurant however is great. Many locals came and ate here. Many more locals than tourists. The management was kind enough to upgrade our room after I requested a different room because the previous guest had taken the door key when they had left and there was no safe in the original room. We were there on the week-end so not much of the village was open.

We stayed one night in a triple room before catching a flight to MXP the next day. The room was clean and comfortable, plenty of hot water for a great shower. The restaurant is filled with locals. Great!

Fifteen minutes from Malpensa in charming little village, completely renovated in 2013. Modern, clean rooms in what was once a historic stagecoach-type stop a century ago. Reception was warm and helpful. Their restaurant was the original draw to the place - lots of local diners indicating good food. As a potentially helpful aside, the chef collects baseball caps and will trade a bottle of local wine at dinner for additions to his collection. Sadly, we had to take a 4:00 AM shuttle and missed free breakfast, but the chef made a bag to go with good chocolate pastry, which was waiting on the reception desk in the morning & still warm. Amazingly for Italy (sorry!), the shuttle was there exactly on time. Price for two, with round-trip shuttles from the airport, breakfast, and taxes came to Euro 55; Awesome price for the area, highly recommended as an airport stopover.
