“AN AMAZING PLACE, EXQUISITE FOOD, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED”

Exquisite home cooked food (grown on site, including the lamb!), an enormous super king bed with proper feather pillows, views to die for and a fascinating chestnut farm to wander around. I went with my mother & 2 year old and we decided to stay an extra night. Janet & John make you feel like part of the family as soon as you arrive. They know when to be present and when to disappear allowing your to feel welcome but independent too. They have thought of everything in the room from extra blankets, hair dryers, hand mirrors and teas & coffee, even a torch & tissues. A charming B&B with chickens & sheep a-plenty! Thanks Janet & John, Love Birdy xxxx

We had a most wonderful stay at Chestnut Ridge on the weekend. We were welcomed very warmly by both John and Janet and shown straight to our room, which was lovely. Once we freshened up we were asked to join them for drinks and nibbles. The conversation flowed very easily, the food was devine and the surroundings, overlooking Te Kauwhata made for a very relaxed, casual and pleasant experience. We had asked for a cooked dinner as well as breakfast and both were very tasty and with plenty of everything.
We would not hesitate to stay with these lovely people again and recommend this place to anyone wanting a relaxed, pleasant experience to also book a room for a night or two!!!

These guys Janet and John Free are the best B & B place we have ever stayed with!

Very welcoming despite our very late arrival and a well prepared breakfast was ready for our early departure the very next morning.

Kept our gear safe for the day until we returned later in the day.

We will be staying there again for sure and so close to Hampton Downs!

Thanks you very much!

Janet and John are lovely people and very welcoming. We turned up knackered from a 24 hour flight and were delighted with our room. Very comfortable, with top bathroom. The view over the lake in the morning is quite something. Janets chestnut soup is also recommended!

My husband and I recently were in New Zealand for a Motor Race Meeting at Hampton Downs. We were lucky enough to stay at the Chestnut Farm Stay for 2 weekends. What a fabulous place to stay. Janet and John treated us like family. The room was lovely and clean and so comfortable. They accommodated a friend of ours who decided to come to the races at the last minute which was so nice, thank you. Breakfast was great and Janet and John went out of their way to ensure I had Gluten Free bread and cereal. The Greenstone Factory down the road was certainly worth the stop it was recommended by Janet & John. We will certainly be back to stay on our next visit to the North Island.

We stayed here overnight on our way to Rotorua. Our room was comfortable and clean, as was the bathroom. Breakfast was excellent. John was unable to provide us with an evening meal, but we had been warned of this in advance and Janet gave us suggestions for somewhere to go en route from Auckland. However we arrived too early to eat there and intended to find somewhere local. We then got involved in long discussions over the global economy, rugby, and many other things. Time was passing and so Janet invited us to go to the local pub with them for an excellent supper of fish and chips.

Thank you for the wonderful hospitality and for the tip about the greenstone factory down the road. We alleviated them of a fair bit of stock!

Wonderful room, quiet, very clean, extremely nice hosts!
A greenstone factory store is nearby where you can buy maori pieces of art and jewellery at greatly reduced prices when compared to tourist locations.
Janet and John proposed to us an alternative way back to Auckland, which turned out to be a wonderful "finalissima" of our trip in NZ.
