We took our New York friend and she was very impressed by the quality of the food and the cooking.
Excellent meal - scallops great, Dover sole a favourite for starters
Between us we sampled all the main courses - lamb in 3 ways, sea bass, pork and steak .. All superb

This was my second visit to Jon and Laura's fabulous restaurant. I took my husband this time who usually has little interest in food but Jons cooking soon changed that. From start to finish everything we ate was a pure delight. As a vegetarian I felt very well catered for. There were vegetarian options on the menu as well as the chef having extra ideas up his sleeve and a willingness to tackle any requests. Not that I needed to as the mushroom risotto and strudel were heavenly. I was assured that the scallops and sea bass were equally as good. We were so pleasantly full that we could only share a pudding but the lemon parfait was worth the extra squeeze. We loved the new decor and there was a lovely atmosphere even on a cold mid week winters night. The waiters are extremely professional yet friendly and for a pair of tight Yorkshire folk we still felt we got a bargain. Thanks again, Steve is looking forward to attending your lobster event.

Great decor, well stocked bar, efficient and friendly staff. AMAZING FOOD!
We were a party of four so between us we tried almost everything. The lamb 3 ways was a hit and I thoroughly enjoyed the pork confit, The starters and deserts were equally delicious. Portions were perfect, and we finished off with coffee and the homemade chocolate fudge.
We did loiter for a while for more drinks and were really made to feel welcome. The chef and his wife even joined us for a well earned drink. Lovely people and a lovely evening was had by all. Thanks Vennell's!

Arrived slightly late, no problem.
Cosy, nice atmosphere upstairs.
Food good but menu limited - 4 choices per course and as arrived slightly late had actually run out of one dish but did substitute it with another meat dish.
Out table was downstairs unfortunately, situated literally at the bottom of the staircase, table 7.
We couldnt quite concentrate fully on the food or our conversation with the staff constantly going up and down the stairs serving food and the fact we seemed to be getting a draught every time the front door opened and felt uncomfortably cool all evening.
Dont let this dissuade you from giving it a try, hardworking husband and wife team with excellent service, lovely young enthusiastic waitress, we were perhaps just unlucky where our table was. Give it a chance and make your own mind up
