“calming and relaxing”
Reviewed September 19, 2012

We had a lovely room and enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere. Sue made the most beautiful bread for breakfast and cooked to our request. The B&B is in an excellent location with all village amenities just outside the door. We were treated as friends who had popped in and not as strangers. Excellent.

Dear Jean

Thank you for this wonderful review. How flattering for us that you felt calm and relaxed after your break. Your 3 day stay with us at Millgate meant you really were able to take your time exploring Masham and the Dales.

We are both delighted to count you as friends and hope you are able to visit again soon.

Love to you both
Kindest regards

We had a very relaxing stay at Millgate with the last of the perfect summer weather! We read the reviews on Millgate of which were good, but I have to say we had an excellent stay from the scones in the garden to the award winning breakfast.
We even had a breakfast starter of local trout that Andrew had caught the day before! Sue and Andrew are perfect hosts and have a wealth of local knowledge especially on walks near by, Hackfall is a must

I would recommend Millgate as the place to stay in Masham.

Room Tip: The double room comes with the en suite bathroom

Dear Stuart

Thank you for your thoughtful review. It was a real pleasure having you all to stay. The weather was perfect for sitting in the garden having afternoon tea. It is getting cooler now and Hackfall is particularly lovely at the moment as the leaves are beginning to change colour.

Andrew was really chuffed that you mentioned his trout. The trout season is nearly over so you were one of the lucky ones.

Hope to see you all again very soon
Kind regards

Perfection! Fabulous hosts, imcredible history of the house, and a gorgeous comfy cosy room. To be greeted with fresh baked scones was marvellous too! We BnB a lot and can say that Millgate is our new gold medalist. The only thing that would have inproved our stay would have been to stay longer! We asked Sue and Andrew to adopt us . Hopefully the paperwork will come through soon!

We booked a last minute night away at Millgate B & B. Within an hour of arriving we felt relaxed and unwound. Sue and Andrew were so welcoming and treated us like friends. The house is immaculate and meticulously clean but homely and cosy. Our room on the top floor was beautifully appointed and the welcoming home baked scones and jam were a lovely touch. We had a lovely dinner at the nearby Black Sheep Bistro on Sue's recommendation followed by a coffee and liqueur in the nearby hotel. At breakfast the next morning we were served hot, home baked sunflower & orange marmalade bread rolls, freshly squeezed orange juice, freshly prepared fruit salad followed by a delicious full english breakfast all made with local supplies.

We had planned to visit nearby Forbidden Corner but ended up spending the morning wandering around Masham and exporing their local shops which were a delight. Bought some hand made glass jewellery and mugs from a local artist, some picture cards from a little art shop, free range eggs and sticky toffee pud from the local butcher and all sorts of treats from a little delicattesen which is an aladdins cave.

The afternoon was spent wandering around the grounds of the nearby Swinton Park Hotel on Sue's suggestion. We walked for miles round the walled kitchen garden, the birds of prey enclosure, the lily pond, lakes, woods and fields.

We returned home less than 24 hours after we had left and felt as though we had been away for a weekend or more. Thank you Sue. Our time spent at your charming Millgate B & B was just what we needed to recharge our batteries. Hope to see you again very soon. Shona and Chris

Stayed three nights in September. It's in a lovely location just off the square and very quiet.
Whole place was very clean and well furnished. Breakfast is very good with a wide choice to suit all. Would highly reccommend.

Room Tip: Go for the room with the on-suite its worth the difference.

I can only reiterate what other visitors have said. This is an award winning B & B (for its food) and it's not hard to see why. It is run by a friendly and accommodating couple who, whilst catering for your every needs (and more), ensure your privacy too. Unfortunately, the room with the en-suite was already booked so we had to take the room with single beds (which was lovely) but this necessitated using a small flight of stairs to access the bathroom. We would have much preferred the other room but we have no complaints because this arrangement is clearly stated on their web-site. I particularly want to mention the comfort of the beds. No expense has been spared to ensure the comfort of guests. I really appreciated this since I have had some bad experiences with beds in hotels and B & Bs in the past. We loved the little village of Masham with its lovely market square and the surrounding area. Middleham is worth a visit, during a morning, to watch the race-horses as they return in their droves from the moors from their early morning gallop. I also recommend a visit to Brimham Rocks. Fountains Abbey and Ayesgarth Falls to name but a few.

Dear Elaine
Thank you so much for this charming review. It was a real pleasure having you both to stay for 3 nights as we loved your infectious enthusiasm for everything.

The beds and the super mattresses have proved a real investment as guests love the comfort they afford and the great night’s sleep that usually follows a day spent walking and sightseeing in and around Masham. Millgate is so close to the centre of town but just tucked away on a quiet little lane off the market place.

It was kind of you to highlight the town of Masham and it’s proximity to so many wonderful attractions for visitors.

We hope to see you both again very soon.
Best wishes

How lovely to hear from you and how kind of you to write so beautifully about your short stay - Thank you.

It was a real pleasure having you both in our home and I am really pleased that you felt so comfortable in our company and that you enjoyed the scones and breakfasts so much.

Do come back to Masham soon as your stay here was so brief.
