Description: The Bruce Arms pub sits to the north side of the historic market square in Masham, North Yorkshire, offering real ales and a selection of spirits, lagers and wines along with homemade food. Our huge beer garden has a spectacular outlook over the River Ure and Lower Wensleydale, that’s why we call the Bruce Arms ‘the pub with a view’!We also have a children’s play area within the beer garden, while parts of it can be hired for free for outdoor events such as music concerts, theatre and dance shows.

Nice pub in the centre of the town. We stayed across the street at The Bay Horse but this pub is really nice. Worth a visit if you're in the area

Four of us headed for the Bay Horse in Masham for a late lunch last Monday. We didn't know if they served all day, but as we drove past the signs were outside announcing they were serving so we parked up (not forgetting to pay our honesty money) and walked down the hill only to find the pub locked up with people decorating inside. Someone said there's another pub over the road so we went over. Best decision of the day !. The Bruce will be our first choice from now on. Ham egg and chips, giant haddock and best of all the beef and ale pie !!. Not to mention the black sheep of course. Or to be exact the Spring sheep, which was a very tasty alternative to the normal Black sheep. Can't wait to go back.

Went purchased a Groupon voucher which of course was an excellent deal. Booked a table for Friday night at 7.00pm. Arrived at 6.45 and the pub was busy, lovely evening lots of locals and the garden outside was busy. Stood at the bar and explained we had booked a table, no problem there. Ordered a bottle of very standard rose was and was charged over £12.00 - hey come on even I know what price this retails at !. Was told the menus were on the tables and we had to order by 7.30pm as that was last orders - on a Friday ???
We ordered garlic mushrooms, which came with burnt toast, a fish cake, which was OK and samosas, two tiny ones ariived with a very large amount of salad. Two of our party had fish and chips which when it arrived was a sight to behold. One piece of fish measured 4 inches long and the other was about the same but had curled up so looked even smaller. When mentioned to the waitress she said " it must have happened when it was cooked" I give in.... needless to say I shall not be going back to this pub, nor will I recommend it to friends and I love quite close by.

My partner and i had a lovely meal here! The menu is very fairly priced. The service was good, very bubbly barmaid/waitress.
We ate in the huge beergarden and enjoyed some beautiful views.
Not sure what the previous person was ranting about as i also had the fish and i found it to be of an ample size. My partner had the gourmet burger, which we understand is locally sourced.
Both where delicious. We finished our meal off with a couple of scrummy homemade deserts. I had the cheesecake and my partner had sticky toffee pudding. Both equally delicious.
Im not sure why the negative comments on this site as ours was a totally enjoyable experience.

We had a Groupon voucher and felt distinctly 2nd class Fishcake's were a single greasy fishcake and Jumbo Fish & Chips turned out to be a small childs portion (see picture). When we queried the portion size we were told they had stopped doing the Jumbo Fish & Chips just after the Groupon deal was launched as it wasn't cost effective. A clear case of mis-description. We won't be going again.
