Spent four days at the White bear - wonderful room, very comfy bed, gorgeous food and excellent service, would recommend this hotel to anyone that wants a peaceful relaxing gettaway with all the trappings of country life. Big bonus of having York and Leeds close by for the big shopping trips

Stayed two nights (Thurs and Fri) and had Room 9. The room was very clean and had everything you could need. Bathroom was spotless, well appointed and the shower was hot and powerful.
The only slight downer is there is no dedicated check-in... so it can get a bit confusing lugging your bag into the bar... but that aside it was fine.
The quality of the food was superb... breakfasts and dinners were above the standard of many more well known hotels in the area.
There were plenty of well-mannered staff who were eager to please.
Plenty of safe car parking and the pleasant stroll into the main village was just what was needed after breakfast.
There are three other pubs in the village. We ate at two and none came close to the White Bear for quality.
A very nice place to stay and experience the pleasures of North Yorkshire. The Black Sheep Brewery is next door and the Theakstons Brewery further into the village.
Local buses also go through Masham so places like Ripon, Richmond and Leyburn are all accessible.

The location wasn't quite what we had expected and it was a little confusing that a Theakston's hotel should be next to a BlackSheep brewery.....However all was explained by the very helpful staff who could not have been nicer. Our two night stay was delightful in every respect... Thankyou White Bear.....we shall look forward to staying again.

My wife and I have just returned from another stay at the White Bear Hotel after an absence of twelve months. As on our previous visits we had a relaxing time. The standard was just as good as on our previous visits with a fresh clean room, good food and a traditional feel in the pub with real ale and real solid fuel fires. I ate too much, sampled the beer and came home all better for my visit.

Previous writers have complained about the staff and some noise which caused them problems. No such problems during our visit. The staff were friendly and helpful, without being over attentive. We were not disturbed and has a sound sleep.

Simply, we had a good time and will return again.

I booked to stay at the White Bear Hotel following a trip to theakstons brewery. The Hotel itself is very pleasant, it is attached to the the White Bear Public House. However there is a separate entrance for guests which leads onto a communal lounge and then the rooms. It has been refurbished to a lovely standard, our bedroom was a good size, immaculately clean and tastefully decorated. We went to the Pub for a few drinks- it is a typically "local village pub" therefore non locals are greeted with abit of curiousity. The landlady who also deals with the hotel guests wasn't particularly welcoming.
As we were in bed we began to hear some very loud music , wasn't sure if it was another room at first!. There is no reception as such and no number left in the room just incase there are any problems. Therefore my husband had no choice but to go to the pub next door to speak to the land lady. She was helpful and we were allocated another room. The noise was coming from the black sheep brewery which is right next door and has a late night licence- this would be worthwhile checking at the time of booking.
We woke the next morning and went for breakfast which is located in the lounge area of the public bar. A good cooked breakfast with a selection of cereal, fruit and hot/cold drinks.
Despite the noise and having to change rooms this was a pleasant stay, if I was to book again I would request a room furthest away from the black sheep brewery.
