“The Best Christmas ever!”
Reviewed January 3, 2012

Whilst this place should be kept a hidden gem, I feel like I want to shout from the rooftops how amazing this hotel is. We stayed here from Christmas eve until the 27th December and from checking in we were treat with the utmost of attention. We checked in at the bar and were kindly shown to our room by one of the bar staff, who was attentive. The room was "spotless", clean, airy and very comfortable. We stayed in "Grisham" which had a modern finish to it. The bed was huge and the staff had left a bowl of treats for us including a hand written christmas card! The lobby area was also kept replenished with mince pies and other treats constantly. The Whole hotel and bar area was beatifully decorated and really made for a festive feel about the place.

We dined there for Christmas dinner which was truly fantastic, food was fresh and tasteful and the large portions were just like having it at home! Breakfast was also a great standard, with a menu to order from, which included smoked salmon and scrambled eggs.

My girlfriend was suffering with a nasty eye infection for the duration of our stay, and it resulted in going to the local A&E on boxing day morning. Sue and the team were more than helpful in providing eye patches and telephone numbers for us to ring, and also the offer of bringing breakfast to the room was mentioned on more than one occasion.

I very rarely write reviews on hotels as they can become rather pointless, but feel this hotel deserves to be told about. The reason to it's success is absolutely down to Sue and her team, who treat you with the utmost proffesionalism and joviality too, which can be sometimes difficult to mix. We have stayed at much higher end hotels to this and not received half of the service we were given at The White Bear!

Our stay was that good, we booked in for the same period this Christmas! A truly excellent place with excellent service in an excellent location!

From the moment we arrived at this special place on Christmas Eve we were greeted by friendly, helpful and efficient staff. The rooms were gorgeous - very tastefully furnished, with crisp white bed linen and luxury bathroom products. We had fruit and chocolates in our room with a hand written Christmas card from the White Bear - lovely touches. The cosy lounge area for residents use was beautfifully decorated for Christmas with a very classy Christmas tree and a lovely garland draped over the fireplace. Fresh fruit, chocolates and mince pies were replenished regularly throughout our three day stay as well as mulled wine and home made Christmas cake, The restaurant and bar area were very festive and the Christmas decorations were so lovely. The roaring log fires were always lit - trulyn idyllic. The hotel is managed by Sue who is an absolute gem. Nothing was too much trouble for her and she is obviously instrumental in making the White Bear such a special place. All of the staff are a credit to her - always cheerful and willing to help, We did not have Christmas Day lunch at the hotel, but did dine there on Boxing Day; not fine dining but certainly above average pub fayre. We can not wait to visit the White Bear again next year. Top marks from us!!! Thanks Sue and staff.

We spent three nights in Room 14 (Masham) and could not fault it. It was spacious, with a lovely bed and fabulous bathroom, and was beautifully warm. Can't wait till the next time.

We visited Masham for the night with friends and to sample the delights of the two great breweries. We stayed overnight in the penthouse suite which is absolutely gorgeous. Having said that, the standard rooms are fantastic too as we've stayed in these before (just not done a review). We cam back the the White Bear for dinner and is was absolutely splendid. Great quality, varied menu and big portions and not too expensive for the quality. Breakfast next day was great too - a very relaxed affair. If anything the breakfast was even better than last time we stayed 18 months ago.

All in all the White Bear is a great place to spend some time.

Room Tip: Splash out on the Penthouse - you won't regret it.

My girlfriend and I spent one night here on a road trip of the UK.

I have a big interest in brewing and beer. What better place to come to?!

The bar in the White Bear is great. Not like any other hotel bar I've been to. Great ales (obviously) and lovely sandwiches to stuff yourself with. Delicious breakfast the next morning also.

The very big room had a HUGE bed and extremely big bath room. Each room had a DVD player and large TV also.

Masham town is not 5 minutes walk with beautiful scenery all around.

It's a little more expensive than other accomodation in the area but it's well worth splashing out on.

My partner booked this hotel to celebrate a BIG birthday with friends and family. We were impressed by the website, so hoped it would live up to our expectations.

The staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful when we arrived. They were keen to show us all 5 rooms we had booked, so we could choose our favourite one. They had all been beautifully furnished and very spacious. Everyone was very impressed as they checked in.

The bar and restaurant has a very homley and relaxed feel about it and the food was excellent. We had booked a table to celebrate in the restaurant that evening and when we came down for dinner, the staff had decorated the table with balloons and birthday confetti and placed banners on the wall. It was such a surprise and a lovely touch.

There is a lovely communal lounge in the accommodation block, which makes it easy to relax with friends after a day out or take coffee after your evening meal.

I would highly recommend this hotel for any celebration or just a weekend away. You will not be disappointed.
