Whilst this place should be kept a hidden gem, I feel like I want to shout from the rooftops how amazing this hotel is. We stayed here from Christmas eve until the 27th December and from checking in we were treat with the utmost of attention. We checked in at the bar and were kindly shown to our room by one of the bar staff, who was attentive. The room was "spotless", clean, airy and very comfortable. We stayed in "Grisham" which had a modern finish to it. The bed was huge and the staff had left a bowl of treats for us including a hand written christmas card! The lobby area was also kept replenished with mince pies and other treats constantly. The Whole hotel and bar area was beatifully decorated and really made for a festive feel about the place.
We dined there for Christmas dinner which was truly fantastic, food was fresh and tasteful and the large portions were just like having it at home! Breakfast was also a great standard, with a menu to order from, which included smoked salmon and scrambled eggs.
My girlfriend was suffering with a nasty eye infection for the duration of our stay, and it resulted in going to the local A&E on boxing day morning. Sue and the team were more than helpful in providing eye patches and telephone numbers for us to ring, and also the offer of bringing breakfast to the room was mentioned on more than one occasion.
I very rarely write reviews on hotels as they can become rather pointless, but feel this hotel deserves to be told about. The reason to it's success is absolutely down to Sue and her team, who treat you with the utmost proffesionalism and joviality too, which can be sometimes difficult to mix. We have stayed at much higher end hotels to this and not received half of the service we were given at The White Bear!
Our stay was that good, we booked in for the same period this Christmas! A truly excellent place with excellent service in an excellent location!
