Our daughter from Los Angeles chose Freigut Thallern as the venue for her destination wedding. The dinner followed the ceremony and all our guests were very pleased with their meals. One of our friends who has lived in Austria for over 30 years rated the Zwiebelrostbraten as the very finest he's ever had.. I chose the Saibling and it was very good. Make sure to go to the Vinothek as well for wine tasting. The staff there are extremely accommodating and speak English.

Nice idea if you want something quiet & cosy, very close to Vienna. Right in the middle of a large vineyard, they have delicious food and a shady terrace. It is worth paying a visit to the nearby wine store.

When we have visitors from abroad, we always take them to places that will leave not only a good impression, but also a memory for all the senses. We kind of compete which country has a better culinary variety.
In Austria, November is "marintigansl" time, Martinigansl is a delicious goose backed in the oven for hours, soft as butter, served with red cabbage with apples and potato dumplings. HIghly recommended to take the 4 course menu for 35 euro.
For startes a delicious goose liver parfait with caramelized apples and toast. Second course is a delicious goose soup with veggies. Main course is the goose and for dessert is unforgettable chestnut mouse. For those who don't like goose, try the austrian speciality "Zwiebelrostbraten", roasted beef, topped with onions in a delicious sauce and the famous potato dumplings. Marvelous !!!
The Restaurant is spacious and the crew is very friendly, efficient, professional and well trained. They have a big fenced playground for children, while kids can play, the parents can eat and watch them through the big windows. There is also plenty of parking space. If the weather agrees, it is a wonderful area for a nice stroll in the wine groves. We have saved the restaurant into our favorites and we will return there soon. It is only a 20 min. drive from Vienna. Top choice!
