It was our first day in Barletta; and decided to have supper at Al Vecchio Forno because of its good review on Tripadvisor website. The restaurant is beautifully decorated. With the special architecture of the building, we felt like we were back in old days in Europe. Luca, owner & chef of the restaurant was the only one that speaks English. He ended up being our waitor for the evening. Instead of trying to order food from an Italian menu which we couldn't read, we let Luca recommended his favorites. The food was outstanding. We never realized Italian seafood tasted so good. We had 12 different seafood appetizers. Each appetizer has different type of seafood --- muzzle, clamps, and some of them can only be found in Barletta. There were lots of different type of pasta (not the regular heavily tomato pasted American Italian pasta). The pasta came in small portion; but so tastety and different that what we expected. They tasted so good and I wish we could be there at this moment. They kept bringing different types of pasta on small plates until we pleaded "STOP". Then, there was desert --- yummy and Luca brought out his mother's favorite after dinner mix drinks. Even though I don;t drink; it was hard to say no. I heard stories of the warmth and hospitality of European chefs; and have never expected to be part of the story myself. It was a very pleasant amd momorable moment for our family. Our young children and us talked about the food and our experience at Forno during our whole trip in Italy. It will be hard for us to visit an Italian restaurant in the US without comparing those we had at Forno.
