The hotel had it's issues for American travelers such as no English language television and no stand-up shower, but when you travel it is important to adjust. The hotel and restaurant are quaint and beautifully decorated in traditional Bavarian style, the views of the Abbey are amanzing, and there are goats grazing on the mountain behind the hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful. The location is convenient to other Bavarian towns.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the Abbey

The Blaue Gams Hotel is a charming and authentic Bavarian establishment located on a gentle hillside overlooking the beautiful Ettal Cathedral and the monastery. The Hotel is clean and the rooms comfortable. Situated above the small village, Blaue Gams' setting is both pretty and quiet. It offers spectacular views, great walking trails, a good restaurant, and an attentive, hard working staff team and an excellent manager.

Nearby, Linderhof Castle, the pretty towns of Oberammergau and Garmisch-Partenkirchen, along with lakes and hiking trails make the Blaue Gams a good choice year round.

The warm and friendly atmosphere encourages guests to linger and visit after dinner on the patio or in the cozy restaurant. This was my second visit and I hope to return soon. I brought great memories of my stay at Blaue Gams back to Canada and confidently recommend it to other travellers.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front offer a view of the valley, the village and the mountains. Rooms at the back are...

This hotel is located in a very nice place with a great view down to the village. Our room was compact, clean and cheap, and it was included with a great breakfast buffet. There is a wifi connection available in the common facilities though it didn't reach to our room.

A lovely hotel in a quieter uphill area of Ettal, yet within walking distance of the monastery. Super meal, rooms very nice. Extensive balcony to sit outside amongst trees to eat with view of monastery. However, having arrived late, just in time to eat, we hurriedly chose our food and sat on the balcony to tuck in! We hadnt appreciated there were so many midges with it being near trees until it was too late and we were all eaten alive! This slightly spoiled my holiday as I do react badly and piriton and incessant itching and unsightly red swelling were the lasting outcome! It would have perhaps been wise of the hotel to install midge repellant burners as they do in the UK! Also, a small but amusing gripe, we ran out of toilet paper in the room as there was only a very small bit to start with, and when my partner shouted for more I dutifully went to reception to ask, only to get the reply 'what right now?' - what else was he supposed to do !!? She looked irritated when I said yes please. Enjoyed our one night stay nontheless en route at a discounted price from the usual hotel websites.

I have been here about 5 times over the years. Inexpensive, nice, clean. View of the monastery and village, great hikes all around, close to Oberammergau, Linderhof Castle and Garmisch. I have been there with friends and my teenage grandchildren, everyone enjoyed it. Good restaurant on premises, plenty of parking. Satisfying breakfast selections, good coffee, fresh rolls, fruit, etc. you have a choice, stay in the older part with quaint furniture or the new hotel next door with balconies, elevators etc., a couple of Euros more, still moderate prices, ESP. For this scenic area.

Nice Bavarian style hotel, all wood with a view over the little Ettal village. The hotel has a restaurant, which unfortunately does not seem to serve the local kloyster beer. We got a room in the guesthouse side of the property, with a balcony facing the mountain. It was clean, two separate beds, the bathroom (2 points) was ok. Overall, a good value for money deal - Make sure you visit the local basilica and kloyster where they brew the Ettaler beer!

This hotel has the feel of a grand country club, but is very peacefully located and quiet. The rooms were spacious and clean. It is located in the midst of the wilderness, next to a monastery. We walked through the woods to the town of Oberamergauer, attended a service at the monastery, and were able to easily drive to the Ludwig castles. Dinner in the restaurant was wonderful and affordable!
