“Magnificent views, beautiful grounds, wholesome and hearty Chalet”
Reviewed July 23, 2011

Arriving in Germany, this was our first destination for 3 nights and we were not disappointed. The chalet accommodation is not modern, but it is clean, it's quaint and rustic, the room was a good size, good beds, and we did not want for anything. Our room was cosy, and the view of the alps from our balcony was enchanting. The grounds of the Schloss are magnificent, and after the tourists leave for the day, there is a quietness and tranquility of being in nature that makes this stay feel extra special. At night, it is so quiet and peaceful, no lights, only the tranquility of nature. On this trip we visited all of King Ludwig's castles, and this was by far our favourite. It had a warmth and happiness about it that the others lacked. The staff at the Schlosshotel were so welcoming, they were warm and friendly and speaking only English was not a problem. We ate well in the dining room, the food is fresh and wholesome, choices are simple, and the beer was great. Admittedly close by there are no other eating choices on the grounds, but after a full day of sight seeing it was nice to return to the hotel and stay in. Value for money - Excellent. Linderhof was a great base to visit nearby towns and make day trips, and it was always lovely to return to the Schlosshotel in the late afternoon. Car parking was not a problem. We really enjoyed our time at Schlosshotel Linderhof and extend a warm thank you to all the staff for making our stay so pleasant. Our memories of our time at Schloss LInderhof and the Hotel are very happy ones. We hope to have an opportunity to return one day and stay with you again. The only feedback, being English speaking only, was limited choices on tv, and more selection of English programs, other than the news would have been nice. The photos we took of the Hotel and the Schloss transport us back to happy times in Linderhof. So glad we did our research before travelling and got to stay here. Thank you again to all at Schlosshotel Linderhof.

I give this hotel 4 stars because of it's location, on the grounds of the Schloss Linderhof. It was possible to wander the grounds of the castle before it was open to the hoards of Chinese tourists, which was itself worth the price.

The hotel itself is built into the old castle carriage house. The rooms are smallish and old fashioned with old furnishings. There was only a small window in my room with NO view whatsoever. Nothing special but functional and clean. It is what you might expect in a 150 year old building that originally housed servants.

The restaurant is good, but a bit on the expensive side. 20 Euros for coffee and cake for instance. Internet access is EXPENSIVE and only available in the "lobby" (a few chairs in front of the check in desk) wia WiFi, and is charged by the hour. Not use time. You buy a continuous hour. Not convenient since usually one spends only a few minutes checking mail etc. and you can't save the unused time to use later. There is an elevator to the upper floor where the guest rooms are, but it is tiny. Barely big enough for me and one suitcase.

Parking is free and spacious, no problems there at all.

If you are interested in visiting the castle, staying here has some very real advantages. Judged as a hotel alone it is average, but again the historic location makes up for its limitations for the most part.

This hotel has the potential to be very good. Set in the grounds of the Schloss Linderhof the exterior of the building is quite imposing in a Gothic way. Our room although dark was clean & comfortable. However this hotel really lets itself down in the following areas : -
1) At breakfast the milk was turned and the fried eggs were cold. There was no selection of juice - orange only. No hot dishes to accompany the cold fried eggs. Food & hot water (for tea making) ran out before everyone was served.

2) At dinner the waiting staff were rude and inflexible. The food was awfull, overcooked weiner schnitzel with frozen chips, followed by cubes of hard dry cheese with stale bread.

3) The dining area lacked any atmosphere and was reminicent of a 1950's school canteen.

4) There was a lack of public sitting areas and guests were not encouraged to sit about downstairs "Do not stand in the bar area if you are not drinking" quote - we were the only persons there !

This hotel was being used by people attending the Oberammergau Passion Play and we felt that the staff had a captive audience and did not feel the need to make any effort.

Stayed 2 nights while seeing the Passion Play. We were with Saga and all 40 of us thought this was a very good hotel. Rooms were reasonable size with small balcony. They were kept spotless. Staff were very friendly and spoke good English. Food was average.
The setting is wonderful. If you stay here you MUST do the Schloss tour, including the grounds and the cave. Do see the fountain outside the Schloss on the hour and half hour.

We had not booked anywhere and as we were travelling from Oberammergau to see Schloss Linderhof (excellent) the hotel was ideally situated. On the night we stayed there was some sort of presentation night attended by a large number of people. We may may have been the only 'outsiders'. For dinner, we were seated in an adjoining dining room to the function. We almost expected that as we were not with the large party, we might not get the required attention. This was not the case and were looked after extremely well. To our delight, the meal was of a high standard very well prepared and presented. It was a memorable stay in a beautiful part of Bavaria.

I was disappointed when I stayed in this hotel. Whilst out for the day in Oberammergau to watch the Passion Play my wife and I returned to find that some biscuits that we had bought as a present for my son's fiance had been taken from a draw in our room. Now although this in itself is not serious we did feel that our possessions should have been safe whilst we were out of the room. What else might be taken by the staff next time!

The Manager's respons to our Rep was that maybe an animal had entered the room. A very clever animal I would presume. It entered a locked room, opened a drawer and selectively unwrapped and ate 1 Toblerone from a packet of 3, then went on to eat a Twix and 4 chocolate biscuits! Bavarian animals are very intelligent it would seem. I was disgusted with the Hotel Manager's lack of concern and no apology.

The hotel clearly did not value a coach party staying in the hotel. The staff in the restaurant were overheard; by a fluent German speaking member of our party, saying that certain standards did not matter as we were only a coach party.

Breakfast was not replenished and tables in the restaurant at breakfast were left uncleared for some considerable time.

Poor standards of customer care I think.

We did not stay overnight, but the hotel has a restaurant. It was very clean and tidy, the staff was friendly, prices not overrated, we've had a nice meal. To be recommended.
