What we liked most about this place, is its old traditional feel and incredible view of the mountains from the room and bar. The bar and restaurant staff are very friendly and helpful. The menu can be in quite complicated German, which made some choices a bit of a lucky dip. Usually we get by with our basic German skills. However by the 3rd day the staff were googling the main choices in advance for us, so they could try to explain the more complex choices.
For a change it was nice to be in a place which is not completely set up for foreigners - we got the real experience.
The room was good, but not quite like what it looked in the photograph. There are plenty of trails in various directions to walk along.

This place is simply wonderful. Stunning location, unrivalled views, very friendly and helpful staff (even if their English is not always perfect), the best spa I have ever experienced in terms of space, tranquility and facilities, good food and lovely spacious rooms.

Yes, it feels a bit like it's stuck in a bygone era but a very comfortable era that I was more than happy to spend time in. This is somewhere to really relax and recuperate.

As for the negative comments below about glass water bottles - serious walkers bring their own water carriers and fill them from the tap! We don't rely on others to provide bottled water.

Room Tip: Book spa treatments before you arrive. The slots fill up very quickly and you may miss out.

We are frequent users of Tripadvisor and often base our choices on the recommendations of our fellow travelers. As such, we had great expectations from this hotel. Unfortunately we cannot say they have been met.

Let us begin with with the positives. The location of the hotel is really beautiful and our room had a superb view of the Alps and the village. the room was large and quiet. The indoor pool was superb and we greatly enjoyed it. The outdoor pool was also very nice, but even on a hot summer's day the water was too cold at noon and therefore the pool was sadly unused. The staff was ok but some of them had some difficulties communicating in English. Strangely, we have found those with less perfect English skills to be the nicer ones.

Now for the less positive. The hotel is quite dated and frankly it has a bit of a smell. The room and bath, although generally clean, were basic. The hotel seems to target German retirees. They were fantastic co-guests but it would have been an interesting information when we were making our choice. The reason for this was that the hotel was geared to service this category of guests and less focused on the needs of others. For example, there was no minibar in the room and we had to go to the hotel restaurant each time we wanted another bottle of water. Also, they only had water in heavy 0.5 liter glass bottles. This was a problem when we went on a mountain hike and had to carry significant extra weight for a limited amount of water. This may seem minor, unless you factor in there was no easy source of other water for a significant distance. Anybody who has done mountain hiking is likely to understand why we were upset. All in all, the hotel seemed ill prepared for people who wanted to do serious hiking.

Upon arrival, the reception person showed us about half the way to our room and then gave us mildly wrong directions. She made no effort to give us any details on amenities. Breakfast was ok, but definitely not worthy of a full rating on TripAdvisor.

The hotel was probably worthy of a 3.5 rating. However, we chose 3 because there was a severe discrepancy between the expactations created by other reviews and the reality of the hotel. To be honest, we are far more likely now to stay away from hotels with great ratings but with many great reviews from users with only one or two reviews to their name.

We had other great hotel experiences in Germany, this was, however, not a top hotel.

We flew out to this area of Germany via Machester - Memmingam and Ryan Air, a cheap deal indeed, no problems there at all. Only about an hour and a bit drive south to the northern edge of the Alps and decided to stay here. A lovely spa hotel, indoor pool, outdoor pool, sauna, steam room and more - note: be prepared to take kit off in spa areas as this is Germany! Towels allowed ... if deemed necessary!
Lovely room with balcony to enjoy sunshine and view. Lovely food at dinner. Not cheap, but well cooked and well presented in a lovely dining room. Friendly staff. Mainly older people, no other English people staying whilst we were there; very quiet (though the hotel was fairly full we think).
A real treat, plenty of relaxation to be had even if it rains. If it doesn't rain there is excellent walking around here and not far to Oberstdorf and the famous Nabelhorn (the Nebelhorn is a 2224 metres (7297 ft) high mountain in the Allgäu Alps).

Room Tip: Just make sure room has a balcony - i think most of them do.

The area is stunningly beautiful, the rooms spacious and clean with views of the mountains, and in the background you can hear the cow bells. The staff are friendly and courteous, and the food is very good. Due to the spa facilities it does attract an older crowd, but don't let that stop you from enjoying this wonderful hotel. We go there every chance we get on our travels.

Room Tip: We prefer the rooms on the first floor over the restaurant for the views.
