“Relaxing and welcoming”
Reviewed April 21, 2014

I booked this pub on the last day of our trip to Wales for lunch before we all headed back to Berkshire. The owners were ever so lovely and welcoming. They had a table for 9 ready and all laid out when we arrived, tired and hungry after a lovely couple of hours visiting the Usk castle and basking in the glorious sun. The leek and Welsh cheese soup was extremely tasty. White bait was okay but my friend's grilled sardine was fresh however could have done with some seasoning. I had the Glamorgan sausages with salad and chips and another had a vegetarian bake. Sadly they were both a little odd. Good effort though as it was more imaginative than most menus. Others who had the duck, scampi, pie and gammon really enjoyed their meal. Despite the small issues, we had a very lovely afternoon and loved the very pleasant and welcome from the pub owners. We really felt the Welsh welcome! Thank you.

“Another great evening in the lovely Nag's Head.”
Reviewed April 21, 2014

We returned again to The Nag's Head on Friday evening and once again, had a great evening. The landlord is friendly, very attentive and always makes us feel very welcome. The menu is traditional with a great selection of meat, fish and vegetarian meals; there are always specials and local produce is also used. We all ordered starters and main courses and all our meals were delicious. For our main meals we ordered duck, steak, faggots, gammon and vegetable pancakes all served with sautéed potatoes, chips and vegetables. Lovely range of beers and wines to accompany the food. We love visiting this lovely pub and we are never disappointed. Definitely recommend a visit, but book in advance as they get very busy, especially on the weekend.

“Just as a great pub should be, plus...”
Reviewed April 20, 2014

We visited the Nagshead today after other recommendations on this site and we loved it. Perfect landlord and lady, so hospitable. Terrific and delicious proper old school menu. We had three adults and three children under 8 and we were made to feel so welcome. Great value and we walked out very full and happy!

Cosy traditional interior, friendly welcoming staff. Good Pub Guide recommended.
On Tywn Square which is relatively traffic free.
