I just love The Bell so couldn't wait to visit their new place in Usk. Dropped by last weekend after visiting Abergavenny market for dinner with friends who live in Usk. They had been eagerly awaiting the opening as it is their nearest pub which I understand had been shut for some years.

We had a lovely welcome from the staff and enjoyed pre dinner drinks by the fire in the lounge.

Very different to The Bell, but lovely for different reasons.

I had the Pork Belly which was delicious and the best part of a bottle of a lovely Malbec (as I wasn't driving).

Looking forward to visiting in the summer when hopefully they'll have their rooms opened.

We came to the new court as it was our anniversary dinner. We were greeted by a friendly young girl, who seated us within five minutes of waiting, which we were pleased about as it seemed quite busy on a Saturday night. The fire was roaring which created an excellent ambiance. Within fifteen minutes of ordering our starters (crevettes and the seafood gratin) - it was delicious! After this, our main courses came (pork belly and the lamb rump with a side order of new potatoes), which was equally as delicious. Each dish was full of flavour, and perfectly cooked. Although, we were slightly put off by the price, after eating it we decided it was completely worth the extra money. We would definitely return, as the new court passed with flying colours :). Thanks for making our anniversary dinner special!

We tried the New Court as we had previously been to their sister pub The Bell in Caerleon and had a good meal. We had the lunch time deal of 2 courses for £10.95. We had to wait 20 minutes for a table, although there were only another 2 tables occupied!? We were led into a freezing room where the other diners still had their coats on it was so cold! After another 30 minutes we had our starters which were ok. The main meal (chicken breast on tagliatelli with bacon and a cream sauce) was the worst I've had in a pub. It was cold, tasteless and the thinnest piece of chicken I've ever seen! It was a slice of chicken placed on a limp piece of ciabatta rather than the advertised 'breast!' No bacon to be seen. Awful. When we told the waitress we were disappointed she offered us a complimentary pudding which was the best part of the meal. She apologised and said that they had been having problems the last couple of days with the chef. We will not be going back.

Dear Guest,

We welcome all feedback, negative as well as positive: it is only by receiving and analysing feedback that we are able to continually improve. Trip Advisor is great 'vehicle' for guests to convey their experiences.

It's such a shame that you came out of Trip Advisor retirement, having not posted a review in nearly 2 years, to convey a negative experience of a new fledgling business (open just a month) in what is the deepest recession in living memory - hardly helpful against a backdrop of 600 pubs closing annually, but your prerogative - Thank you.

At The New Court we constantly strive to deliver exceptional quality and service and I can only apologise that you felt on this occasion we fell short of your expectations

Dining out is subjective and I'm aware that your issues were dealt with by your server Rachael to your satisfaction. Rachael has conveyed her opinion of you as being dour, playing with your food, pulling up ribbons of pasta with your fork to inspect it - you clearly didn't want to have a good experience and were looking to find fault.

Regarding your reference to our Chef, Rachael informed you that we were a chef short, not that we were having problems with the chef! - I'm pleased to say this was an acute issue which has now been resolved.

It's such a shame that you chose only to convey a negative experience at The New Court on trip advisor and not the good meal which you enjoyed previously at The Bell?

We have recently had a new thermostat fitted to control the heating and it was set to 18C on the day in question. It should have been set to 21C, this issue has now been resolved.

As I've said we've been open barley a month and have had a few issues, which is to be expected with any new start up, although I can honestly say that vast majority of guests have had a wonderful experience. With the tiny minority that have experienced an issue being a lot more understanding and gracious about it than you - clearly

we are all passionate about ensuring all of our guests have a great time and we're genuinely sorry that you didn't.

Kind Regards
Lee, Chris & The Team..
