Much of this castle is 12th century and it is said to be the most fought over castle in Wales. Fortunately there us enough of the structure remaining to make it interesting and exceptionally romantic; a perfect wedding venue, in fact. The view over the early pert of the town of Usk and down the Usk valley is exceptional.

We attended a wedding at Usk Castle in September. First thing I have to say is I have to disagree with a review I read on here earlier about the vicious dog on the entrance. Poor Finn is far too lovely to get such a reputation. Talk to him and give him a pat if you go, he's fab! We were very lucky with the weather. I'm not sure it would have been the same experience had it been raining though. The photo opportunites were numerous as the grounds are kept in great shape. The Castle itself is rustic so is not suitable for the elderly or infirm. All in all I was impressed with it's beauty and heritage. Definitely a summertime visit!

What an unusual spot! A castle in someone's back garden! Really charming place with a contribution to be paid on entry. The views are amazing and the fireplace still looks *almost* usable! the chapel area was delightful with a fig tree and vines growing. the walls were great and i loved the oddity of so many strange additions - for example the 'missile' being used as a chicken coop! the hogweed was a revelation and I can well imagine a delightful party/reception being held there! The medieval camp-site next door looks fun too where you can sleep like a knight! you could pair it up with fancy dress from Corwen (they do medieval stuff!) and a hog roast - it would be fab! Be responsible for yourselves though as it is old and really is a back garden!

We didn't have much time in Usk, but I wanted to check out the castle. No entry charge but they do request a contribution.
The castle is Norman and dates back to 1138 (or earlier). It is basically in ruins but very charming, the overgrowth adds to that. The views over Usk are amazing.
We visited on a Sunday morning. A marquee was still up from a wedding held the night before. Some brave guests stayed on site in medieval tents. Stepping into them took you right back into another time zone. Even the ablutions on site are fab.
Spend some time walking around the grounds, you will come across something fab around every corner!

This is well worth a stop if you find yourself in the area. Although it can be difficult to find but there is a small track directly opposite the fire station that takes you up to the castle. It was enchanting as soon as we arrived. We were greeted by the householders Labrador who my daughter fell in love with. We were unsure of where to go and he seemed to sense this and led us up a winding path to the castle gate. He then proceeded to show us around. The castle belongs to an adjacent house and is one of the atmospheric castles we have seen. My wife wanted to buy the house and castle she loved it that much.
