We stayed in this hotel in tuscany near Siena for 2 nights for our 10 year anniversary. The hotel is an old castle in the beautiful area of Tuscany. The location is absolutely magnificent and the hotel is beautiful! It was been completely renovated and is quite luxurious and service is top notch. The hotel has a great restaurant called La Torre and served an all included breakfast, which was quite good. We had a great dinner there and food was very good with exceptional service although it was overpriced, in my opinion. Our room was situated right outside near the terrace and pool and felt very private. Comfortable room that was larger than most we had in Italy with all the expected modern amenities of a hotel of this caliber. Overall, a great hotel with wonderful service located I one of the most beautiful parts of Italy. We would definitely return to this great hotel!

Besides the fact that the hotel is very average and the price is very high, you should be aware that they do not accept the price of your reservation. They tried do invoice the dobble price from a friend and me and nevertheless they abused our credit cards by charching 900 EUR in 4 different amounts without our knowledge. They did this with 2 different credit cards numbers !

Good afternoon,
thank you for taking the time to write this comment, actually I thought that Tripadvisor should be used as a tool for describing experiences and help the travelers to build an idea on their vacations, and not to be used, as in this case, to blame a property that has correctly charged the agreed rates that have been reconfirmed in paper and upon check in and that have been refused to be paid upon check out. I consider this comment not as a review but a try to put our honest property in a shade pointing against us when we have simply tried to get the regular invoice paid.
Best regards
I hope that Tripadvisor will take care of this really disappointing happening.

The hotel is beautiful and well-kept and we enjoyed staying there for 7 nights, in a spacious and very comfortable suite on a high floor in the main building.
The hotel is located in a calm Tuscan Valley . A right base for trips around Tuscany.
The staff everywhere was warm and welcoming, happy to assist and respond to every request.
Gourmet meals, rich breakfast, luxurious spa.
We enjoyed our staying very much. Highly recommended.

The hotel itself is picture perfect! On the first night we attended the annual dinner event which was prepared by a Michelin star chef and 2 other great chef's from Italy. The food was amazing and we were able to try pigeon, duck and fois gras.

Unfortunately we had very bad experiences with the service provided by the hotel staff on more than one occasion. On the 3rd night we were told that the bar and restaurant were fully booked all night and the only way we could eat was if we ate in our room and ordered room service, which would have incurred a 15 Euro surcharge. This is not acceptable for an isolated 5 star resort where the nearest restaurant is 15min away in the car. When we walked past the restaurant and bar there were at least 3 tables free in each section at 9pm. There was no attempt to try and squeeze us in for dinner at the hotel for either a early or late sitting. This was either because they were understaffed or because they only wanted to have 1 sitting that night. 3 other couples and us pooled resources to overcome not having a meal and we purchased take away pizza / pasta / local cheeses which we ate in the terrace. All 4 couples were shocked that as paying hotel guests there was little effort to look after us.

As a heads up breakfast starts at 7.30am, which is extremely late for a 5 star hotel. We had to checkout at 7.30am and we went to the restaurant at 7.10am to see if we could have cereal for breakfast before catching our flight. The restaurant staff did not allow us to do so and only after complaining to reception were we able to have a bowl of cereal! Again some flexibility should be possible and we did not ask to eat anything that was not already set up in the restaurant!

I found most staff in the reception and restaurant rude and whenever we asked for something the first response was 'no'....however I must note some of the bar staff were outstanding. We paid for a 5 star experience but only received a 5 star hotel and on balance no 5 star service. Very disappointed and my expectations were certainly not met.

The Truffle hunting tour offered by the hotel is fantastic and a must do on your activity list. The truffle hunter was very informative and we found 3 truffles on our hour long hunt in the forest! Very exciting! The 4 course lunch afterwards was also wonderful, which focused on show casing truffles as the main element in each of the dishes.

The spa facility and massage was good. The spa staff were very friendly.

Room Tip: Superior double room is spacious with fantastic views of the Tuscan Hills! Oversized bathroom with b...

Good afternoon from Castello del Nero
thank you for dedicating your time to review your experience with us, it has been a great pleasure for us to host you at our property despite we have not been able to make your stay 100% happy.

I am very sorry to read your complaints towards most of our staff in the reception and in the restaurant but as you may read from all the reviews we receive our staff is always marked as the highlight of the Castello del Nero experience, I am so sorry to have missed this opportunity to show you this attitude and in the meantime I will share your remarks with my team as our internal rule is to never say no but to always suggest an alternative solution.

Our property is not isolated as you will have noticed that we are just 5 minutes driving from the nearest village of Tavarnelle where lots of nice restaurants can be found (it is a nice 12 minutes’ walk for walking lovers) and unfortunately when the restaurant is full we have to suggest the in room dining in order to accomplish anyway our Guests needs, as we do not charge service percentages or taxes to our prices we simply charge a 15 euros room service (the looking like empty tables were booked from other guests we were waiting to service). As we love that our Guests can enjoy their meal we never offer a second sitting option in order to not giving pressure (unless we have tables free after a very early or short dining), we are perfectly staffed to the restaurant needs and again very sorry and surprised to read this as it never happened before and will make sure to never making happening again.
Breakfast is served starting from 7.30 am as we are a leisure country side resort and not a city business hotel and the time has been set up accordingly to what we have seen are the habits of our Guests that anyway do start to show up after 8.30/9.00 am and not earlier and when it happen we always try to accommodate a request, again sorry.
When we are informed of an early breakfast we always provide breakfast boxes while starting from 5.00 am we prepare a tray in the lobby with hot beverages, cups to go and muffins and cookies (most of the time for catching an early flight or for the hot air ballooning experience).
We really look forward to welcoming you again soon and to have the opportunity to conquer your hearth at 100% and to really make sure you will bring back a happy memory.
Have a nice day

The hotel and the staff are really 5 star, the rooms are great, the grounds are superb and the staff cannot do to much for the guests.
The cost of food and drink is exorbitant and unless you literally have money to burn you have to think twice about staying here. A Caesar Salad, a toasted ham and cheese sandwich with 2 glasses of dry white wine at lunchtime cost $55.00, A 2 course dinner for 2 with 2 glasses of dry white wine cost $155.00 and a 3 course dinner in the main restaurant for 2 people cost $175.00.
If you can afford it great but if you have a more modest budget go somewhere else

Room Tip: We had room 203, but if you can afford it 201 looks very good

Good afternoon from Castello del Nero,
thank you for your kind words, it has been a great pleasure for us to host you at our property and we really look forward to welcoming you again soon.

I am really sorry to hear about the comment on the costs of your food and beverage experiences which I trust you enjoyed, our prices are expressed in euros, the ingredients we select are the best, local and fresh you can find, the wine by the glass is of selected labels, unfortunately the Euro is still very strong and I trust that not because the change is not so favorable at this time that we might be accused to overpricing our offering when we are perfectly on line with the hotels of the same level.
For the reader a check of: USD 55 is a EURO 40, of USD 155 is a EURO 110 and a USD 175 is a EURO 125. Pleae consider that we do NOT charge cover costs, nor service costs and taxes are included.

I really hope that we will have another opportunity in the near future to have you at Castello del Nero.

Have a nice day

Had a wonderful stay in a spacious duplex room with my family of four. Hotel staff were charming and helpful. The grounds and the view are just what you'd expect for your Tuscany experience. The spa service was first class and the food service and preparation excellent. The concierge was very helpful. The hotel clearly caters to all types. While it's a serene luxury experience, they also know how to engage children. Each child was given a welcome gift and sent on a scavenger hunt throughout the property. The shuttle service to Florence and Sienna is convenient as well. Overall, a perfect experience.

We arrived after a week of sightseeing in Italy. The hotel is so peaceful, pretty and relaxing. We felt good as we stepped in the front doors. Our first event was a massage in the luxury spa. A lovely dinner served on the terrace finished our day. The only comment is if you come don't try and take a taxis to sightsee in the nearby towns. The shuttle service from the hotel was full. Taxi service to and from Siena was $$$.
