“True Tuscany - loved it and will return”
Reviewed July 7, 2011

My husband and I stayed in the Capella apartment for 5 nights in June. It had a large loggia which included a dining table w/ 6 chairs, love seat, and 2 lounge chairs. One bedroom had a queen size bed and the other two twin beds. We thought the apartment was lovely! We were able to see the other apartments as well and they are all very nice; Susannah has done an excellent job decorating each one, with a true Tuscan & elegant flair . I don't think you can go wrong with any of the 4 apartments. Each apartment has one bathroom.

Il Paganello is a working farm that produces very good olive oil and wine which we were able to sample (& purchase) when greeted by Riccardo & Susannah upon our arrival. It was very convenient being able to purchase nice wines right at Il Paganello.

There's a clean & sparkling pool overlooking the countryside where I spent hours reading, hearing nothing but the sound of birds & bumble bees while the scent of rosemary and lavendar drifted by. This is a very tranquil and peaceful place, a nice reprieve after the larger, more populated cities.

The location of Il Paganello affords nice views as well as nice walks and is conveniently located about 30 minutes south of Florence making day trips to the surrounding areas (Certaldo, San Gimignano to name a few) easy.

We go to Tuscany every year and this was one of our favorite places. We hope to return again next year and bring friends so that we can rent all 4 apartments as it would be the perfect place for a group of friends or family.

Please note that this is an agritourismo, not a hotel, so you will need to bring your own toiletries, hair dryer, etc. There is no TV, but there is internet access.

We stayed in the Terraza apartment for a week and wish we could have stayed longer. Previous reviews describe how spacious, comfortable and characterful the rooms are, and that's an understatement! The building dates from the 12th century and you truly feel like you've stepped back in time. The bathroom and kitchen are modern and well equipped, and there is a superb BBQ area beside the pool, which has spectacular views of the surrounding countryside and vine-yards. I didn't realise there would be no TV or radio, but it was a great opportunity to escape, unwind and enjoy Mother Nature at her best. As well as the terrace area, there are charming courtyard areas and a vast garden filled with sun-loungers, lavendar, olive, lemon and peach trees. The owner, Riccardo, makes his own Chianti wine, which was available on tap and very quaffable! The nearby town has good supermarket, tourist info, and a choice of wine bars and restaurants. On Sundays they have a market with a range of delicious local delicacies, crafts, jewellery etc. Approx 90mins drive from Pisa airport, it is an ideal location for day trips and exploring the surrounding countryside and Medieval villages.

We stayed in Il Paganello last summer. We were three families so we rent three apartments Terrazza, Cappella and Bernadetta. Villa is much more than just vacation house it is place you can move back in time. Villa is rather a small palace moved from Florence. As we learned from the owner it is partly truth, but to know why you must to visit the place. I with my family stayed in apartment La Terrazza. To say it’s big is not enough it’s huge. The other apartments are also spacious. Surrounding is absolutely beautiful, there is a small valley full of olive trees and vineyards witch you can see from the windows and terraces. All day long you can enjoy taste, smell and sounds of Tuscany’s country site.
The owner is very nice and helpful person who will tell you what and where to do in the neighborhood.
So if you like to see the place in Tuscany witch is really special do not hesitate to rent Il Paganello.
There is one more important information. Don’t forget to ask the owner to let you taste his own vine. You will not find it anywhere else but it is much better then well known vine in exclusive shops. I took back home half trunk of my car.:)

We visited Tuscany many times before and usually stayed in one of those perfectly renovated typical stone-built farmhouses. This time we wanted to try something different and we are convinced that Il Pagnello was the right choice.

The house must be several hunders years old and has not been recently renovated from outside. But this is a great advantage for those who want to experience the traces of Tuscan history and to imagine the life of people who lived there during many generations.

Of course it does not mean that the apartments are in bad condition. We stayed in the one called Terrazza and it was simply amazing. Clean, cool and huge, furnished by large antique furnitures. Two bedrooms, a living room with a table for ten, a bathroom and a kichen, alltogether about 200sqm plus a 70sqm terrace. There is an open fireplace in the living room, big enough for a car to park (this is not overdrawn, just check the attached photos).

The view from the apartments or from the pool is excellent. A typical Tuscan landscape with wineyards, olive trees, cypresses, fields of wheat and other farmhouses in the distance.

Quiet location, but close to all mayor cities such as Florence, San Gimignano, Siena etc.

We can only recommend!

We stayed in Il Paganello for the second week of our vacation (1st week was in Santa Maria a Poneta, Same owner) and it was very rural in comparison to our previous location. The rooms are absolutely huge and very clean. We stayed in the upper room overlooking the courtyard. Unbelievable view of the surrounding countryside from our balcony and by the pool. It is a little less suitable for people with a baby due to the fact the pool is a a small bit far away from the bed room to hear a baby phone but all in all an excellent place to relax. The kitchen is basic but has most things you require.
There is a bit of noise from farm machinery but thats what you get when you move to the country ! The adjoning church is worth a look, very basic inside until you check out the ceiling. The map provided by Riccardo is excellent and the restaurant recommendations were perfect.
