We stayed for one week at Hotel Perwanger and had a room on the first floor, on the west-facing rear of the hotel. We chose the back of the hotel as there is a road which passes to the front / east, but it is not too busy and so if you like morning sunshine, don't let it put you off - you will also have a nice view of the mountain from the front.
The hotel is clean and well run by the Perwanger family who are very helpful indeed. Nice little bar. The rooms are also of a reasonable size with good bathrooms.
The hotel is very well situated for walkers; you can reach the plateau at Alpe Di Siusi within 20 minutes from the hotel by driving the short distance to the village of Suisi and jumping on the cable car. The fare in 2009 was about €16 return for a day trip. There are many sign posted walks when you reach the top and plenty of "huts" for lunch and Forst (the local beer). There are walks here to suit all ages and abilities.
The only negative points would be that breakfast at the hotel is a bit limited and whilst there are a number of very nice villages and small towns along the valley, there is not many restaurants. The food in this area also has a heavy Austrian influence and so if you're hoping for pizza and pasta, you're going to be heading into Bolzano! We had dinner at the hotel one evening; the food is very good, but it is a set menu.
This hotel is a reasonably priced, solid base for getting out and exploring the region. If however you demand a hotel that offers lots of services / facilities and an extensive menu, it may not be for you.
