We arrived there at 5pm and paid 50 kuai for a 10-bed-dorm. Food and drinks were good and prices very fair.
The view from the roof terrace as well as their toilets is amazing, make sure not to miss that!!
But you should notice that it is cold everywhere and that there is no hot water.
I would definitely stay there again when coming back to Tiger Leaping Gorge.

Stayed at Tina's and walked from there to Halfway (yes the opposite way that most people will do it). Didn't think the walk would take so long for us but maybe because basically, I'm not fit. ha ha. The awesome thing which made us love Halfway though, was the fact that they could drive us back down to Tina's after our incredibly satisfying late late lunch. We didn't know that there was actually a drivable road from Halfway down to Tina's... so the upper trail DOES have drivable roads to get up there - you don't have to do all those bends.

This review is strictly for the lunch, not a stay in the Inn. The views are great. Service was warm and friendly. They let us plug in about four different power adapters to charge up. Food was just fine. This place was a nice break for us during the TLG hike. If I needed to stay here, I would have stayed here.

We had heard about people staying at Halfway Guesthouse and knew it was a popular place to stop on the Tiger Leaping Gorge. But it turned out to be the most disappointing place we've ever stayed in our entire trip in Yunnan. The bathroom was gross it looked like it hasn't been cleaned for weeks/months (some parts of the floor were slimy and there was visible hair clogging up the drainage), the room was very small compared to other places we had stayed in for the same price or lesser, the towels had a bad smell, and the TV didn't work. The owner however, speaks relatively good English so I guess that's helpful if you didn't speak Mandarin. Some rave about the views, but really, most of the guesthouses in Tiger Leaping Gorge have similar access to the views so I wouldn't be crazy about it. Food was okay although the waiting time was pretty long (we had to wait for more than half an hour at dinner time, not including the time we had to wait in line just to place our order).

The vibe in the place is nice though, mainly because of the number of people stopping here. But the rooms and housekeeping really need fixing, and overall this place is overrated. There are other guesthouses in the same location.

Before doing the Tiger Leaping Gorge trek, we checked out the reviews for all the hostels and decided we wanted to stop at the Halfway Guesthouse if we were able to get there before dark.

The Halfway Guesthouse was described as a great place. It actually is, but it is SUPER busy, and getting bigger and bigger so if you like small guesthouses, more intimate atmosphere, stop elsewhere. There are actually two new guesthouses, neighbors to Halfway, but I am not sure they have opened yet, as they looked empty (June 2015).

The room is simple but pretty and has a great view over the mountains, straight from the bed. The towels have bleach stains, but are clean so it’s not a problem. We had a double room in the old building (150CNY). New building is 200CNY and was crowded with a noisy group so we were glad not to be in that one.

Getting back to the busy busy place: we arrived around 5 pm at Halfway and there were not that many people. People started to arrive after 6, or even 7pm. There were BIG groups of noisy +++ people screaming which can be a bit annoying when you are just contemplating the view but we didn’t pay too much attention to them. There are a lot of singles or couples so it is easy to meet people.

The kitchen is really nice and the food tasty, but portions are a bit small. There is hot water available free of charge at all times and green tea.

For dinner, you get a number like in the busy cafes and they come and serve you when it is ready. You can eat in the courtyard, or in the living room or on the crazy view terrace.

Another terrace, bigger is getting built. The view over the Yulong Xueshan (Jade Dragon Snow Mountain) there is just stunning.

As we were exhausted we went to rest quite early. Take your earplugs as the rooms are just in front of the terrace so there is a lot of happy, chatty voices. For breakfast we had banana pancakes, which is perfect before starting another day of hiking.

Overall Halfway is great if you like to mingle and meet people. It’s the perfect place to stop for a 2 day hike in the gorge.
