“Great park at high altitude (3000+)”

One thing that will never stop to amaze me: the tibetan plateau looks very much like the alps, but the alps 2000m higher than they are in Europe. This national park is a great place to spend a day to see the gorgeous scenery. Lakes, hills, herds of yaks, it all looks like the european alps... just that it is well above 3000m where in Europe you would not see trees anymore but just rocks and small vegetation. Here it is very fertile and wet terrain, with beautiful mountain flowers, trees and in autumn you gonna get the great colours of autumn. Lovely for a day, there is a service of bus in the park (it's unrealistic to consider walking through it without the bus) but there is already enough to walk. You'd better take food and water with you as there is little available in the park (though that might change in the future as they were some work going on when I was there).
You should be aware of the high altitude which might cause altitude sickness to some.

We went on a beautiful autumn day in late Oct. Blue, very blue sky and nice temperature with different shades of green and orange. We walked 1.5 hrs on the first route, and 2 hrs along the lake. Wish we could be there in spring, summer with beautiful flowers around. The only thing I can say is no English translation on the bus but one can gather information ahead of time and sure will enjoy the walk as well.

Spent a great 4 hours walk around Shoudu Lake and Bita Lake, otherwise we took shuttle bus to tour around the park. The walk is easy and relaxing as there is well-built wooden walkway around the lakes.

Beautiful autumn colors can be seen throughout the park, blue skies, puffy white clouds, scenic mountain views, calm blue water lakes, glittering sun reflection on the lakes, tree leaves swaying according to the wind directions, yaks grazing in the vast meadow.

Not many tourists were seen at the time I was there so I can enjoy the views and soaked in the atmosphere as long as I like.

There is tour guide in the shuttle bus giving brief descriptions about the park before you disembark at each location for visit, in total there are 3 stops.

We went on a bright autumn day (with early morning frost lingering in the shade) when there were relatively few visitors and the lakes, meadows and hillsides were looking lovely. You have to follow the prescribed tour, that is to say bus to lake 1; walk (or bus) to end of lake 1; bus to lake 2 (which is now open again); walk, bus or catch a boat to end of lake 2; then bus back to the starting point (where one is obliged to walk through an interminable shopping centre to exit).

Admission is RMB 135, and one can hop on and off the buses at the recognised stops (ie the visitor determines his or her own pace). Facilities are excellent, with well-made boardwalks; lots of information boards; periodic smoking shelters (no smoking is allowed in the open); and ample clean eco-toilet blocks (eastern closets where the solid waste is collected and taken off-site).

We didn't see much wildlife (ignoring the ubiquitous chipmunks) but we had a very enjoyable day amongst beautiful scenery in the sunshine. If however your proposed visit coincides with a period of inclement weather then frankly I'd think twice about going - unless you're a hardy all-weather type you probably won't appreciate it!

Wonderful park and great scenery to be seen. Quite well maintained and generally great if you dont have a lot of tourists around you.
