Our family of five (2 adults and 3 kids under 7) spent 2 nights at Banyan Tree Ringha (after spending the earlier 2 nights at Banyan Tree Lijiang). The location is stunning, and the cottage we stayed in was an experience in itself - the furnishings, the furniture, the wooden bathtub ... all of them gave a really wonderfully rustic feel to the stay.

The staff were extremely helpful, and understanding of our needs, including those of our children. Warmth was not in short supply in this cold place!

the surroundings are very classic Banyan, miles of pristine hills and random yaks and horses grassing away near the hotel. the villas are large and well designed. seeing that it's a converted farmer's house, can't complain that some of the amenities are old looking but better care would be needed. some of the bathroom fixtures aren't well fitted and since the villas are so spread out, too much hassle to call room maintenance. good value for luxury villas in the middle of shangri-la, feels like we're staying in the middle of the national park. will surely go back again for a quiet getaway.

Room Tip: try the spa, surprisingly affordable and a very nice treat for exhausted limbs walking all over shan...

We stayed at this hotel for one night only, and thats a shame. We have rarely been so positively surprised by a hotel. We landed at Shangrila at the evening and were driven for about 45 minutes (the last 20 minutes on an isolated dirt road). We arrived a this exotic hotel, checked in and went directly to the dining room where we were treaded with very good food (great choice too). We were the only guests at the dining room but enjoyed efficient and kind service. We then were taken to our room. Very late and impressive room. Hard to believe they can maintain such rooms and service at what appeared to be the middle of nowhere.
Everything in the rooms worked perfectly. The hotel offers hikes and activities. Shame are plan did not allow us to utilize all the hotel offerings. We highly recommend this hotel!

Room Tip: Stay more than one night!

We for the most part enjoyed our stay at the Banyan Tree Ringha - interesting surroundings and generally very nice accommodations. The rooms were very large, creatively furnished and generally well kept (some furnishings needed updating or minor repairs). Room was cold at night and space heater type heating was somewhat primitive (and inadequate). Service was generally very good, but with some minor lapses - things like not being able to change a larger bill into smaller denominations because no cash was on hand. Internet was poor - no service for two days of our four day trip (neither wifi nor wired). When service was restored it was painfully slow and erratic. Restaurants were not ideal (we found this to be the most significant drawback of the hotel) - food (especially in the main (i.e., non-hot pot) restaurant was not great (and the remoteness of the hotel's location made alternatives difficult to come by). All and all, Banyan Tree is a very nice 4 star plus lodging facility (but in our view, not 5 star).

Perfect location for a very relaxing stay in an isolated valley. The scenery has green mountains, a river and the flat valley area. You see horses, pigs, yaks and cows grazing on the fields and roaming freely around.
The room - on two floor - is spacious with a very nice bath room on the first floor. On the second floor is the bed room and a small balcony overlooking an enclosed patio.
Very well decorated and everything done in a local style.
When you walk around the hotel blends perfectly in with the nearby small village.
We spend only two days here, but it would be a perfect location for some more days.

I loved this hotel! The location was spectacular. Sitting on the patio and overlooking the serene countryside, breathing the crisp clean air. It was miles above the Banyan Tree LijiAng, mainly because of its simple, rustic beauty.
The service was very genuine and sweet. Not the stuffy kind of service at five star hotels, you actually get to know the personal story of the staff!
The rooms were gorgeous, and authentic. I only gave it 4 stars because it was so cold when I had to walk downstairs to the bathroom after snuggling in bed...
A few tips: ask for a humidifier, it helps to breathe easier in the altitude, and don't get drunk! Trust me, altitude sickness combined with a hangover is not pretty.

Just spent 2 nights in Banyan Tree Ringha. Location was fantastic; we overlooked a scenic valley surrounded by green mountains and a flowing river. If I didn't know that I was in China, I would have thought that I was somewhere in Europe given that the trees were mostly pine or cedar. Very peaceful; we watched horses grazing amidst cows and local black pigs.

Our villa was quite a change from the Banyan Tree in Lijiang where we had just stayed at. This villa was done Tibetan style which means lots of dark wood and carvings. While nice to visit, it almost felt like you were in a temple.

The bathroom was downstairs which is not goodvfor less mobile people.

The staff were extremely friendly. Especially recommend Sonam (aka Ah Ma) our guide who was extremely knowledgeable. We went to the white water terrace which was amazing. An incredible natural wonder that is a must see. The views on the way there were also breath taking.
