I took a two-days hike first to the Halfway hostel and then to Tina's Guesthouse. The view is amazing, just make sure that you don't take photos from platforms which cost money - you can do it a few meters further. The nature is wonderful and you will meet a lot of interesting travelers.

Thank Matthias B

An amazing gorge. Is probably very busy in the summer, but we had a tranquil visit mid-November.

Going up and down the stairs is not too difficult (take your time) and worth the effort.
Ignore the folks trying to sell you the 'carrying chairs' - not really needed.
We had fun studying all the poor English translations.

After lunch near the entrance to the gorge, we walked towards the gorge. It was a cool day being late October 2013. Our walk was on the leeward side of the mountain, so it was very shady. Passed through a few tunnels on the way. Some decided to take a rickshaw ride as it was a distance of about 2+ kilometers. It was a good walk for me and I enjoyed the cool, breezy air especially when the wind blew through the tunnels cut into the hills. The gorge was fantastic with water flowing over the rocks. Did some jogging on the trail but fell and cut my hand and hurt my knee and side but thankfully no broken bones! So no jogging as it is not very even being paved with stone slates which are not smooth.

Took 2 days for the trek. Started at 10AM and stayed overnight at Halfway House as it was already 5PM . View is fantastic from this hostel. Took the horse from Naxi Guest house to the top an dpaid 200RMB. Worth every cent as you need not climb up the 28 bends. View from trek is fantastic. Would definitely trek again in the near future.

We have spent 3 months in China, and this is one of the best sights and experiences we've had. It's a great break from the repetitive cities.
We took Tina's bus from Lijiang to Qiaotou, where it drops you right at the base of the high trail. We left our bags on the bus, and Tina stored them for us while we walked. We picked them up at Tina's when we were done.
The trail was dry and not too difficult. I can imagine in the rain, there are sections that could be dangerous on the cliff edges. However, we had beautiful weather and the trail was in good condition.
The steps was not nearly as bad as it appeared. We've hiked Nepal, and this is not as intense.
The summit view makes the walk worth the effort. Despite the aggressive lady saying you need to pay, which you don't, the spot is amazing. As you walk on, the clear view of the mountain tops and deep gorge is great.
Definitely worth your time and effort if you like nature and walking.
