“Nice place in the tiger leaping gorge”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 8, 2013

We started our tiger leaping gorge trek quite late on the first day and decided to spend the first night at the tea Horse guesthouse. It was a very good choice. The rooms are clean, the beds are confortable, the place is quiet with a nice view from the balcony, the food is good and the staff / family very friendly. We had more than enough time on the second day to reach the Walnut garden, so we can recommend this place!
The only contra: A new building is in construction beside the house and it does not look nice (but it is not visible once you have entered the guesthouse)

The location was perfect for us, just when we needed to stop. However the place is not very nice, we tought the halfway and naxi's family where much nicer. The bedroom are ok, the bed is ok for china. Ask for a room on the second floor to have a nice view from the balcony. The food was not so good and the service not great either.

The rooms with private bathrooms are log cabin like but they dont clean the bathrooms between guests so beware! I think this guesthouse is popular as they are a good halfway point on the trek but my recommendation is to keep walking for an hour and stay at the half way guesthouse instead. This place has a money driven atttitude with low cleanliness and no warmth.

The location can't be beat with a beautiful view of the gorgeous mountains. The room j stayed in didn't have running water in the sink, the lights didn't work and the washroom door didn't close. It was a bit run down and could use a little maintenance. The beds were comfortable enough and they did provide a lot of blankets and electric blankets to keep warm. The walls are paper thin so you can hear everything all of your neighbours are doing. The food is decent but lacks a lot of flavour. Breakfast is worth it. Chocolate pancakes and yogurt before a hike is just what you need. If you're doing the hike you only stay for one night so it's acceptable. Ask for a bedroom with a view!

The staff in this place was just awesome.
Friendly and smily.
Always ready to share some story about their place, their family and the culture of this mountain people.

Where: in the gorges of the leaping tiger, near Shangri La, Yunnan, China

From HuQiaotou it was around 3h ascend walking (option to go by horse back or carry your back in a horse).
And around 4h30 walk down to the 2nd gorge where I took a bus.

I stayed 1 night and they invited me to eat lunch and dinner with them. I had such a great time that I didn't want to continue my journey, just wanted to stay there forever : )

The food was excelent and I ate more than enough I think at a very fair price, considering that they carry all the supplies by horse there.

I stayed in the cheapest room wich had a very thick blanket, so I had a warm night and very peaceful sleep.
I must say that it was a bit dusty but I expected much worst being a mountain refuge for the hikers.
My bed was clean and the bathroom too (but hurry up if you want hot water, as the supply is limited).

The views are to pretty to tell with words, with this summits in front holding the memories of the winter. Mighty peaks, impressive all the day long. A rainbow on the sunset, really full of magic.

Can't wait to go again.

A must do if you like nature and hiking.

Room Tip: Bring a warm layer for the evening and early morning. Plan to stay an extra day to do some hikes fr...

The room we got at the Tea Horse guesthouse for 150 yuan looked fine at first glance, but then we saw the bathroom, which was not in good shape, with the shower a bit mouldy and one of the towels smelling musty as well. We didn't have too much choice in where we stayed, as it was getting dark already, so we didn't want to risk trying to walk to a next place. The next day the Halfway House looked much better, although addmittedly just from the outside, we only walked through.

The food was ok, edible, but not spectacular. The service was great, the girls, or at least one of them, spoke pretty good English and was patient with some guests who were having special requests with their meals.

This was our favorite guesthouse on the Tiger Leaping Gorge trek. The only thing that it didn't have that Halfway Guesthouse did was an excellent deck in which you could sit and look at the glorious mountain.

Staff were nice enough (though not much English was spoken) and the bathroom was a bit more tolerable than the other guesthouses we stayed in (namely Sean's Guesthouse, which was awful!).

I would absolutely recommend this one.
