My college age daughter and I stayed two nights. The private room with two beds and no bath cost 90RMB. The toilets and baths were down a half flight of stairs. There was one Western and two squat toilets. Electric underblankets were provided for warmth although we did not need them. They were fully booked the whole time we were there, so try to book in advance. The rooms were sparse with no noise insulation, so if your fellow travelers were noisy it would be noisy. They decorated with Tibetan style colorful embroidery hanging on the walls, which improved the ambience. Thought the Che Guevara posters and altar to Mao were a bit odd. They did wash for us for 10 RMB. The food was good and better priced than old town. Yak Butter Tea was 20RMB here versus 48RMB at a hotel downtown. The location was good, right on the edge of the old town. The owners gave great advice on how to climb to the free Chicken Temple with great views of all Shangrila, but could not help with travel reservations.
