“Another Fabulous Holiday at Caserma Carina !”
Reviewed July 25, 2013 for a stay in July 2013

We've been lucky enough to holiday in Italy some 20 times over recent years but just could not resist going back to Le Marche / Mogliano and Caserma Carina for our 10th visit this year. This really is a very special place and ideal if you want a nice quiet getaway and want to sample a bit of real Italy.

Mogliano is quite a small peaceful town ( unless you are lucky enough to experience one of their local festivals which we've managed on a few occasions) set in beautiful countryside and really does give you a flavour of real Italian life, wine and food and the local people are really friendly. Although we saw a few changes this year there are still enough local restaurants - usually within 20 mins drive - to provide a good variety of mainly local dishes BUT at very very reasonable prices compared with the likes of Tuscany / Umbria etc. For a taste of real Italian homecooking - you just have to sample one of Luisa's takeaway meals which she delivers to your apartment !!

However the big draw for Caserma Carina is the place itself - we're blown away by the way its has developed over the years due entirely to the efforts of Dean and Lesley. The apartments remain spotlessly clean, comfortable and well appointed ( all with aircon / widescreen TV / video library / wifi etc if you really need it) but the best place to be is the fabulous garden ( immaculately maintained by Dean) by the pool with refreshing glass of beer or wine from Dean's well stocked on-site ''maxi-bar''. The pool is well above average and the gardens offer plenty of space for all the residents to relax in comfort - we've met new friends during our days lounging round the pool and there's always some impromptu banter and entertainment provided by Dean, Lesley and the lovely Grace ( D & L's 8 year old daughter and unofficial entertainments officer !)

If you want to venture further afield - Dean and Lesley are a mine of information and tips for trips out either to the coast ( great seafood !) , the Sibellini mountains or other local towns / villages etc. Don't miss Dean's wine tasting evening at La Murola vineyard - it's a great way to get to know fellow guests and the local wines.

We've still got lots more to see in le Marche - we will certainly be back to Caserma Carina again !!

“A Special Haven in Beautiful Marche”
Reviewed July 24, 2013 for a stay in June 2013

This was our first time in Marche, having visited other parts of Italy and came for the first two weeks in June. Caserma Carina is a wonderfully restored country house with four apartments. Our apartment was spacious, clean, well equipped and comfortable. The gardens are lovely and beautifully maintained and likewise the pool. The views from both the gardens and the apartment are stunning.

The proprietors, Lesley and Dean, made us feel very welcome and were a good source of local knowledge and gave us good ideas of where to visit. There is also plenty of information in the apartment. Lesley kindly showed us the other apartments when they became vacant and we were very impressed by all of them.

They have good quality wine, beer and soft drinks in a store, all at very reasonable prices. It works as an honesty bar and you keep a sheet on what you have bought and pay at the end of your stay. This is extremely convenient and a good way to try some local wines at a good price.

The local small town, Mogliano, a 15 minute walk up the steep hill (a good way to work off the aforementioned wine and beer) has a couple of restaurants, several cafe/bars and a variety of shops. You need go no further for supplies.

Both restaurants serve good food. The closest, La Perla, lacks atmosphere but is good for lunch. Da Marina Al Teatro is excellent, good atmosphere with tasty local dishes. Don't order too much - the portions are large and one between two is plenty. Both restaurants are very reasonable price-wise and Marche in general is the cheapest region we've come across in Italy.

Caserma Carina is located midway between mountains and the sea (Adriatic). You don't have to travel far to see more, gorgeous scenery. A car, though not essential if you don't plan to travel much, is recommended if you want to see the small hill towns and scenery easily.

We shall definitely be back at Caserma Carina - we didn't want to leave and we look forward to going back before too long.

Liked best: The space and quality of the apartment.
Liked least: Towels were only changed after one week. With hot weather and using sunscreen and showering twice a day, a midweek change of towels would have been welcome.

“Everything we hoped for and more”
Reviewed July 24, 2013 for a stay in May 2013

Only an hour from Ancona airport Caserma Carina is easy to get to. Set in the hillside the building and views are breathtaking. Dean and Lesley are fantastic hosts. They accommodated all our needs to make travelling with our 10 month old much easier. The cot provided was brilliant and they'd even provided a playmat and toys when we arrived. The apartment was immaculate and had everything you need and expect from a luxury self catering apartment. The gardens were beautiful and the pool was clean well maintained. Dean was always on hand to provide advice about where to visit, what was on and even went out of his way to take us to a fantastic hand made bag workshop. The food delivery from the local Italian lady is a must! Our only issue was that everything was shut pretty much all afternoon so if you have a little one in toe you need to make sure you shop in the morning :-). Thank you Dean and Lesley for a fantastic stay, we can't recommend you guys enough!!!! :-) x

“Fantastic family holiday”
Reviewed July 23, 2013 for a stay in June 2013

Caserma Carina lived up to everything we viewed on their web site. From the moment we arrived we were welcomed by Lesley & Dean, and having arrived late lesley had already made a reservation for us at a local restaurant. The apartment was great. It had everything required for a family. The grounds and swimming pool were amazing, due in a large part to Dean's constant hard work. Dean's wine tasting trip is a great afternoon and social event. You can then sample the wines at your leisure at Deans wine and beer store, on site.
We would recommend Caserma Carina to anyone as we had a great family holiday even with 2 teenagers.

“Full marks in Marche”
Reviewed July 23, 2013 for a stay in June 2013

This place is immaculate both inside and out and reflects the hard work that Lesley and Dean put in. The garden and pool area are prepared for you every morning and they continue to provide for your needs throughout the day.
We stayed in the Papavero apartment which was roomy and very comfortable, enhanced by the provision of mozzie screens at every window allowing you to have fresh air throughout the night.
The little eating areas dotted throughout the grounds were delightful especially with the facility to grab a bottle of the local wine from the "honesty fridge"!
Mogliano is a charming place and Dean and Lesley's local knowledge and suggestions for days out, eating places etc were excellent.
All in all we had a wonderful holiday and we cannot praise Caserma Carina enough.

“Just perfect”
Reviewed July 21, 2013 for a stay in July 2013

This was our first trip to the le marche region and we were delighted with caserma carina. It is a beautifully restored building, a lot of hard work must have gone into it to bring it up to it's present standard. The gardens are immaculately kept and the pool is spotless. The rooms are beautiful, we could not find fault with anything in Caserma Carina.

Dean and Lesley work hard to make sure their guests have an enjoyable experience. They are both good craic!!! Their beautiful little girl Grace completes the family and musnt forget their little dog Marley. They are very helpful regarding advice on where to go and what there is to do in Le Marche.

One week wasn't enough for us so we hope to go back next year for longer as there is so much more we want to see and do in the area. So Dean and Lesley we will be back!

We just could't recommend this little gem highly enough.

“Perfect holiday location”
Reviewed July 1, 2013 for a stay in June 2013

This was our first holiday abroad with our two-year old daughter and Caserma Carina was perfect in basically every respect. The apartments were clean, tidy and have modern facilities including a widescreen TV, air conditioning, WIFI and a useful kitchen. The swimming pool is a good size and ideal for both adults and young children, a stone's throw from the building and surrounded by lovely gardens. The owners (Dean and Lesley) are very welcoming and friendly and full of useful information/suggestions about what to do in the local area. They stock fridges with cheap but lovely wine, beer and soft drinks (sold at cost price or thereabouts) and they'll order you in takeaway food from local restaurants. All in all, it's great value for money and a fantastic location all round, about an hour's drive from Ancona airport. We'd recommend it to anyone thinking of travelling abroad with a young family. You won't go wrong.
