“Wonderful holiday”
Reviewed September 6, 2012

Just returned from a wonderful family holiday at Kamari apartments in Acharavi. Found the owners & staff to be very helpful and friendly. Pool was wonderful & clean for the kids. Not the most spacious apartment ever, but it was just what we expected from the online photos.

Room Tip: Our room was the furthest from the bar & pool (still very close!) which helped with evening nois...

we are a family of 4 who have visited the kamari on 2 occasions now and are booking are next trip there in the next few days.
the owners zak eva & gersi are great hosts as is chris who works the bar area along side them.
the whole complex is really well maintained by Theo and the 3 cleaners.
our room was really well looked after by the cleaners and if there was anything we needed extra like towels etc it was only an ask away and was sorted out promptly, also we asked for a toaster and was sent 1 to the room free of charge.
we stayed in the 1 bedroom apartment this time which was more than enough room for 4 people and all the junk we brought with us, previously we stayed in a standart room which is a bit of a squeeze for 3 but ample for 2.
the pool was cleaned on a daily basis and is a very safe place for all ages to be.
the bar provides drinks and snacks from 9am till the last person leaves, snacks are basic but good but if you want a meal you can go to 1 of the many restaurants in acharavi or neighbouring roda.
there seams to be a couple of people slating zak on here but if you take the time to talk to him you will find out that he is a great person with a very funny sense of humour, who works very hard to ensure everyone enjoys there holiday, occasionally having the odd nap but working for 18 hours a day can do that to a person especially in that heat. we have been given lifts to roda and a personal tour of corfu town by the owners.
if we wanted any help or assistance we dont go to the reps we just ask them, even exchanging euros, just ask zak and he will wizz of on his scooter and have your euros within minutes. not all owners would do this for people.
all i can say is if you have any issues or questions just ask them, they always do there best to help everyone.
hope his helps in your choice and yes this is only my opinion and everyones does vary but with a rating score of 4 to 4 and an half you know its a good rating.

Room Tip: 1 bed apartments take 4 with ample space for personal clutter, other rooms are fine for 2.

Stayed here as a family of four in two separate apartments during August 2012. Can't fault anything really. Apartments basic greek standard but spacious and excellent bathroom/shower. Pool never overcrowded - always a spare sunbed or two still at 10 am - so not bad for height of season. Owners Zac and Eva and Bar manager Chris very helpful and polite and friendly. Excellent prices (2 Euro's for a pint etc), food a bit slow but decent all the same. Enjoyed our stay.

Very upset (at the amount of money paid) and disgusted with Kamari Apartments. The complex certainly did not match the information in the Thomas Cook travel brochure – ‘peaceful – spacious and newly refurbished’. It was not! We waited an hour and twenty minutes before the room was ready despite our flight already being delayed by an hour!
On seeing it we were shocked, it was really pokey and very basic not a studio, possibly a double room! Staying in a 2 star in St Georges previously was a palace compared to this. The three beds were practically on top of one another, two beds touching so we could open the patio doors. The third bed was a chair that kept collapsing; the cover was shabby and torn.

The wardrobe door wouldn't shut. The fridge door was rusty and cracked and had been painted to try and make it look better. It didn't close properly so food at bottom was warm, whereas food at top freezing as ice box like an iceberg. We had two rusty hotplates to cook on, one which didn't work – took a fried egg fifteen minutes to cook! On opening the kitchen cupboard door it hit into the glass lamp shade.
There was damp on the bottom of two of the walls which caused a musty smell! The shower tray seemed to be blocked, causing flooding in the bathroom.
All doors creaked loudly on opening/closing them waking everyone on using the bathroom etc.
The pool area was good; a bit worrying was the fact that bathing costumes and kids’ toys turned green!? There were not enough sun beds and on occasions we were asked if ours were free on just leaving them to go bar/pool or room. This was rather annoying. Bar was ok; food choice limited, Greek salad and chips good, but burgers and pizza awful.
The noise was dreadful most nights; no time restrictions for using pool, small playground or bar. Screaming and splashing seemed to be worse from 12.00 until 3.30am, most nights and there were people in the pool at 4.10am one night. Joke being kids playing in the pool during that day were asked by Zak to stop making noise and goal posts removed! There were 4 dogs that lived on the complex; they roamed freely, barked ++ most nights and we also witnessed dogs excrement on the lawns, where later children walked barefoot.
Sheets were changed once during our two week stay, we would expect this to be twice.
We spoke to the rep about the room and the noise but to no avail. Eva seemed friendly initially, but on expressing discontent this changed, ‘commenting this is not a 5 star hotel’. Seemingly there are rooms or apartments that have been re-modernised, but whilst we were there these seemed to be occupied by people returning to Kamari and were booked through Eva and Zak, Eva's comment to other guests within earshot was that you can, ‘be lucky or unlucky’ in the room you get. If you are going to book this complex make sure you get one of them as they are further from the bar and pool.

Room Tip: Ask for the re-modernised rooms away from the pool and bar. We complained to the rep twice and proba...

Have just got back from my holiday at The Kamari, we took our 17 month old daughter with us on her first holiday. She thoughly enjoyed herself and learnt to swim in the child friendly pool on our first day there. The staff as ever ( we have stayed here many times before) were the most friendly and helpful you could wish for. The bar food and drinks were excellent and priced the same as our last visit two years ago which surprised us especially with the Greek economic situation and vat rise. The rooms we were in were of excellent standard and reminded us of the cabins on Princess cruise ships we have stayed on, sayin that the bath/shower room is even more spacious. The gardens are spacious and well looked after and completly child friendly with a small play area. I would no hesitate to reccomend this establishment to anyone whether traveling with children or not.

Room Tip: there is a dvd player/tv in the room so take some discs to keep the kid quiet in the evenings whist...

After reading through all of the previous reviews, we decided that the Kamari would be ideal for our holiday. I understand that everyone has a different experience, and my opinion may not reflect the general experience of others, however, i can only be honest in my own review.
On arrival, we were greeted by the owner, Eva, and told that our room was not ready. No problem, we had a long journey, so a few minutes in the bar would be fine. We sat next to a miserable looking Greek man in the bar. He turned out to be the other owner Zak. I cannot understand how other reviews have stated that the owners, Zak and Eva really lovely friendly people. Eva was pleasant at times, but not what I would call "Friendly". Zak is the most miserable Greek host I have ever come accross. However, we do not go on holiday to become lifelong friends with the hosts (some people do). After about 30 minutes we were taken to our room. It was the smallest accomodation I have ever seen in Greece. There were 3 of us, there was a double bed and a single bed and no room for anything else. This was clearly a double room, with a single bed added for us. (Not enough room to swing a hamster, let alone a cat!). As we only planned to spend a small ammount of time in the room, we did not let this dissapoint us too much.
The bar area was quite nice, but the food was very poor. They had a limited menu, and only had one small grill and one chip fryer. I ordered burger and chips. The burger was pretty poor, the chips were ok, but arrived 20 minutes after the burger.
After our first night out we came back to the complex at around 12.30am and had a drink at the bar. We were one of the last to leave at about 1.15am, as we walked back to our apartments, we noticed that there were approx 25 towels already put on the sunbeds for the next day. When we woke up the next morning, I went to the pool at about 8.30am, and every sunbed had a towel on it, with only 2 people actually lying on them. What is it with people? So arrogant and selfish!!
The complex had too many people for the ammount of sunbeds available. (It would be simple for the owners to add a further 20 or so sunbeds and put them on the grasss area around the pool. This would keep guests there during the day spending money in their bar.)
After about 5 days of putting up with this, we decided to go to the beech during our days, where we found a lovely small complex called "Sun Rose Apartments". It had around 10 apartments, a lovely pool and snack bar, right on the beech. We were made to feel very welcome by the Greek hosts, and spent most of our holiday daytimes there. We also used the Amorrosa pool, which was also very nice.
Acharavi is a nice Greek town, not at all commercial, and it had a lovely atmosphere at night, with lots of nationalities, and Greek people eating out in the many lovely restaurants. We were also about a 20 minute walk from Roda, which is a bit more of a typical holiday resort, with more British holidaymakers.
All in all, we had a really nice holiday, but only because we spent as little time as possible in the Kamari.

we were really looking forward to staying at the KAMARI after reading the reviews. we arrived at 1.30pm along with another couple and we were greeted by eva who then said lets see who is the unlucky ones guess what we were. our room wasnt ready we waited untill 2.50pm only to be shown to this pokey little studio. we knew it was going to be basic but this was rediculous.
the wardrobe door kept falling off, the shower was hanging off the wall, then we went to use the plug and the whole socket came away from the wall. we tried to have a shower only to find that the rest of the studio got flooded. The fridge obviously hadnt been defrosted in a long time and was so very old it sounded like a tank. We were self catering but there was only an ancient hot plate, in our oppinion it should be classed as room only.
By this time i was fed up so off i went to complain only to be told YOU ARE NOT IN A 5STAR HOTEL. But we will get shower fixed and also told to put towel down along the bottom of the door to stop flooding. I replied we only have 2 towels. There was a really helpful cleaner called FRANCIS she dropped a few towels off for us. also we and a few others had to complain about the noise from people swimming in the pool between 2+4am they were just screaming and laughing. The other thing was myself and a few others had to throw away our swim suits because they turned green after swimming in the pool. LUCKILY we didnt spend too long in the room only to sleep and we were close to RODA about 20min walk along the beach so we did enjoy our holiday. I would advise anyone booking these apartments to check and see if you
are in the old apartments or the knew updated ones. As they were more modern

Room Tip: check to see if you are getting updated apartment or the old block
