Booked 10 days in a standard room and couldn't have been happier with the hotel.

Approaching the Hotel: The resort is not big, certainly not brash and has a bit of a sleepy feel to it for much of the day. There are a lot of smaller properties and those that offer a budget room across the road from the beachfront big boys. There is a more modern cinema and restaurant/bar complex about 15 minutes stroll along the beach or main road and this made a nice spot for people watching.

Rooms: There is a real mix of rooms available over a pretty big area. These stretch from near the tennis courts at the entrance, right through the grounds, past the slides pool, through the main hotel, and some spread out to the far side of the complex, bordered by the access road and the pool complex. Up by the slides pool was some little 2 and 3 storey blocks with niches and terraces arranged within and around themselves. This area may be a little noisier at night with the entertainment stage adjacent. The main complex was bright and airy and never felt overcrowded. The rooms in this block were a standard affair. Ours was on the 4th floor with partial sea view. Even, as it was, over the main entrance, there was very little disturbance at all. Cleanliness was very good with a natural ebb and flow to the cleaner's routines. There is not much space in the room itself, but perfectly acceptable for what is needed. We were happy to go back in the hottest moments for a nap in air-conditioned coolness, and 2 adults + 1 child were able to get ready for a day or night in relative ease. The balcony is nicely bordered to the front with foliage.

Food and Drink: The bars served a very passable lager that wasn't too gassy nor weak. The cocktails were made with local spirits, each of which was a similar taste and quality to the other! A vodka is a gin is a bacardi! But tasted ok mixed in with some fruit juice. The paid drinks specials (Pina Colada, SotB, Mojito) were worth a bit extra, especially on happy hour at the beach tavern. Or perhaps have a chat and get to know a barman who might be inclined to be a little heavier handed! :D

The food was simply brilliant. Fresh, varied and never far from being refilled. For such a busy restaurant, you could always get a seat, and usually outside if desired. The fresh salad and vegetable selection was incredible, as was the bread choice. Each day there was a different theme, and the tastes were authentic. The less adventurous always had pasta and pizza options with chips, whilst those looking for a varied selection had daily meat specials and a smorgasbord of soups, spiced dishes and specials to suit the cuisine.

Lunch usually had a mixture of meats that matched the prior night's dinner, but would also have the full range of fresh produce. The beach bar served souvlaki and a simpler pizza, pasta, chips, hot dog range, but always with the daisy-fresh salad and veg.

Pools: The main pool was clean, simple and deep enough for fun whilst not spoiling the gentler pastimes of the shallow end. There was a nice pace to the day, with the mornings laid back, afternoon games, and the evening sun dipping behind the hills as the aquatic day wound down. The slide pool was open mid-morning until lunch, and then again after lunch until late afternoon. The slides are more than enough to entertain children big and small! There is a small bar attached here serving drinks and snacks. This is the same area that is used for the nightly stage entertainment.

Beach: Not the greatest beach, not the worst. It's not a picture perfect beach, such as can be found elsewhere in Crete, but was clean and well served with loungers. There wasn't an awful lot to see further along the beach either. More a place to enjoy some choppy wave and a change from the hotel complex. Most of all, I repeat that it is clean around the hotel maintained area.

Staff: We didn't meet anyone who was less than lovely in this hotel, even though it doesn't have a lot of English guests. Everyone made the effort to speak whatever English they had, and the reception staff were very good with a level of English that was more than enough. Certainly better than our Greek! I had to go to the hospital in Heraklion with a damaged eye and the staff arranged the taxi and gave me information to help. Even my daughter accidentally breaking an ornament in the attached shop was handled nicely, even if we did have to buy a previously unwanted ladybird!!

Further Afield: We rented a jeep for a 24-hour sight-seeing tour of Crete. Haggle! There are plenty of places, and they can be brought WAY down on price!! We headed off to some major tourist spots, but were especially taken with the small beach cove resort of Matala. Driving in Crete is not for the faint hearted though!

Staff: The animation team were a real highlight. Took our shy daughter under their wing and had her joining in everything in no time. Despite us being one of very few English families to visit this hotel over the summer, every effort was made to make us feel part of everything. The chance to practise their English was appreciated by many!!

Don't expect an Englishman abroad experience, this is an international hotel, with a French lilt, but does more than enough for open-minded English families to fit in. All in all, a really super place suited to families and less lively types but still with entertainment and fun to be had

Room tip: Real mix of different areas, all rooms nice. Feel free to ask me.

My Parents went to the dolphin bay resort for their 25th anniversaryl of marriage because they had their honeymoon in greece 25 years ago to. Before they arrived I contacted the hotel for some extras i‘d liked to have for them. On their arrival they got flowers, champange etc on their room and were very surprised. As a special the hotel organised a private dinner for us. It was in a garden near the beach and we had your private cook and waitress. The food was local and very very delicious! We had a BBQ with everything you can imagine. The wine was exelent and all the people were really taking care of us.
Thanks again to all the people who made this happen!

All of the staff members were kind and helpful. We had a separated bungalow that was quiet, peaceful and clean. They have wide selection and high quality of foods. The beach and garden perfectly cared. We were on a honeymoon and they made it absolutely unforgettable holiday for us. I would like to say thanks especially to Maria at the front desk, and Dimos they were very nice, smiling and ready to help at all times. I also try the spa, well their employees impressively sweetheart and professional for example Maria, the spa's receptionist and Thalia the therapist. They have as many massages as stars on the sky. So I recomend this amazing hotel for everyone who would like to relax and take a pleasant trip in Crete.

Room tip: I think bungalows are more comfortable than hotel rooms.

I have spent a wonderful Holiday in this hotel. All the details were up to my expectations. Firstly the hotel staff was very kind and helpful and always with a smile. Secondly the food was very tasty and I could always find something different to try.The hotel has a green and big garden with beautiful flowers. The beach is big and sandy and water was clear. Room was clean and comfortable. As I received a 15 minutes free massage voucher upon arrival, I decided to try the SPA. In the end I chose a face mask and relaxation massage. I was totally relaxed and highly recommend Aegeo SPA. Both for the quality price ratio but also for their staff. The hotel is also close to Heraklion town, about 7 km away from the city centre. The bus station is 200m from the main hotel entrance and comes every 30 minutes or so. Many thanks to all the staff for the wonderful stay and especially to Andreea the Guest Relation Manager.
