Very difficult to locate, we drove around for a long time, getting lost in the residential area at the back.
No locals or shop/restaurant owners seemed to know the hotel or it's location.
It was only when we thought to pop into a hotel on a main road with a similar sounding name and to our surprise were had stumbled into the right hotel
On arrival, we were given a room on the top floor (4 flights of stairs).
We requested a room on a lower floor as we could not take all our luggage up, we were kindly given a room on the first floor (2 flights of stars).
We were lucky to have done this, as we later found out from other guests that the water is usually cold on the higher floors.
We were also lucky that we went during a quiet period, as it was often noisy, with doors banging when other guests came up to go to bed. The rooms are not soundproof & I predict could get very noisy during a busy period.
Contained a fridge.
Very basic electric hob and some cutlery, pots and pans.
It was quite unclean, that we ended up eating out most of the time.
I think that the hotel owners wished to encourage guests to eat at their bar.
The room was very basic and needed a clean.
A couple of the guests (regulars to the hotel) later told us without any prompting that they deep cleaned the rooms whenever they stayed.
No iron in the hotel, I was lucky that the owner reluctantly did lend me an iron in the end as I desperately needed it as I was attended a formal Greek ceremony and needed to ensure smart attire.
Dirty, with dirty furniture
View was not scenic
No hair dryer - made it very difficult when getting ready to attend a formal Greek ceremony.
Our hire car aerial was stolen whilst parked in the drive.
Parking could be difficult if other guests did not park further down the drive, or sensible enough to leave a space down the middle for other cars to exit.
Beautiful fragrant basil plants in the walk way. Nice garden.
Swimming pool available, though we didn't try it as we were concerned about it's cleanliness after experiencing the bedroom.
The other guests seemed unhappy that we did not spend all our time in the hotel.
It seems that the same people come once or more times each year and befriend others who are similar to themselves and they do not leave the hotel at all.
The two brothers seemed to be trying hard and were friendly enough
The road into Heraklion itself is almost straight and direct (though we had a car)
The owners' aged mother was very friendly, kind and very hospitable though she spoke no Greek. If we had had more time, we would have spent more time with her.
I would recommend only if you are desperately short on cash, but do not expect to cook in the bedsit room.
